i was reading about the kinetic theory of gases and also about its assumptions. while reading, i felt a bit curious that why do we even need to count the assumptions of ktg and why not just use them for every case

We are getting ready to refurbish a PVC and 316 SS pump that has had cupric chloride concentrate run through it. It has been cleaned. However, there is green residue. We will be plastic welding, chipping and scrapping this pumps. What are the dangers? Is this safe to do? How should we advise our customer to clean the pump?

Hello. Once I made a gold soldering iron tip for electronics work. The tin Sn solder dissolved the gold instantly. 😒 Would a tip made of silver Ag survive or will also react with tin ?

Hello. Germinating moist seeds in capped containers sometimes spoils the seed with mold / fungus growth. Is there any chemical placed on a absorbent tissue attached under the container cap that will not harm the soil or the seed ? Would vinegar work ? A piece of moth ball ? I usually microwave the soil in 30ml. containers for germination but not always effective.

Whilst it's likely true that even if all of the trees on land were cut down that oxygen would still be produced from the algae in the seas (although I wouldn't advocate it) can anybody critique this fancy system for use on the smaller scale: https://www.scienceforums.net/forum/61-applied-chemistry/

Are there simple methods for extraction of chitinase from food such as bananas, avocados, kiwis, chestnut, beans and so on? That is, the extracted chitinase need not be entirely pure, just in significantly higher concentrations than in the food material the process starts with. It does, however, need to avoid degradation that permanently compromises chitinase activity. Temporary inactivation during the extraction process is acceptable as long as it is easily reactivated afterwards, but degraded homologs derived from chitinase that merely retain other attributes such as chemical similarity and allergenicity won't do it if their chitinase activity is permanently lost. Since…

Hello. Can someone teach me how a chemical reaction translates into potential differential Volts as a battery ? These chemical reactions / equations for these elements / compounds : Or as for a perhaps simpler case, the well known carbon-zinc vulgar cell yielding 1.5 volts.

Hello everyone, first day first post on topic "alternative/cheap" platinum like catalyst catalyst ostwald process to produce nitric acid or to oxidize ammonia gas to nitrogen dioxide for making nitric acid. Platinum groups metal are so expensive, among them platinum is one of the most cheapest to buy, but other catalytic metals are more expensive then it. I simply want to produce nitric acid by ostwald process but i don't have enough money to buy platinum, even if I had i wouldn't buy it. I am searching and looking for a cheap-easily available material to used as catalyst. I have read some articles and learnt from internet that I can also use pure hot copper or it's …

Hello all. In typical social sites conversations which I sometimes receive, saw a video/report of a mexican company recycling plastics into fuels; I think I saw it about a year ago and now again. Being in spanish, may not be of use providing a link which I do not know how to obtain. Title is "mexicanos convierten plastico en gasolina" At tiktok ; if you have access to their content. Company name is Petgas. Can be a dreamy future or not, your knowledge would be more entitled to analysis and opinions. Edited: added. found a simple version on youtube --->

I am currently engaged in a local project that requires a unique attachment solution. We need to securely affix a 100g object, coated with cross-linked polyethylene foam, to a board that is covered in synthetic fur. The attachment must be robust enough to endure shaking and bumps. Importantly, it should also be biodegradable, allowing the object to detach naturally after a period of 2-3 days. Any insights or suggestions on materials and methods that could facilitate this requirement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your expertise and assistance!

So, #1 I'm not a student or a child or close, I'm creeping up very close to 40. That said, I enjoy casting my own lead bullets, and loading my own cartridges, hence the screen name. So it's always bugged me I still have to rely on a vendor to obtain primers..... got to looking and well that mercury fulminate doesn't look to complicated to make, and I already have azeotropic HNO3, and a few ml of Hg, and who doesn't have a little 95% ethanol hanging around the liqueur cabinet right? So I took 10ml of the azeotropic HNO3 and added approximately 1ml of Hg, I say approximate because the disposable pipette I was using was not wanting to keep the heavy mercury in it once the va…

I am confused about the labelling on vitamin supplements. For example with Zinc, there are a number of different types and the one used is elemental where each tablet is listed as 30mg, with a Nutrient Reference Value of 300 from 100mg Zinc Citrate Dihydrate. Asking a Pharmacist what this mean I left with the understanding that to get the 30mg elemental dose, it would take 100mg to achieve this, is that right ? Another was Magnesium, where the tablet was 211mg from 1,456mg of Magnesium Citrate, with a "Referenced Intake" of 56.2%. What does all this actually mean, as some companies charge more than others and I would like to know what is going on. …

Hi, I repair various items including coffee makers and because of this I use various acids to remove limescale (calcium) deposits. For instance I use citric acid mixed with water and use a solution comprising of 1000ml of water and 50g of food grade citric acid - but this pure guesswork on my part. I am able to crudely measure the PH using Litmus paper indicator strips but would like to know how to make a solution of maximum concentration without wasting excess CA. I have the same question for some recently purchased sulphamic acid powder (99.9%) What ratio of SA to water? Is there a simple way of me calculating this in the future? Many thank…

In case anybody didn't catch the article in the British Telegraph newspaper, there was an advertorial piece from Boots for a marketable product off the cumulative back of fifteen years of research, that eventually could lead to the body sending signals to the skin to trigger scarred tissue to regenerate. It all goes above my head, but after five peer reviewed articles, throughout fifteen cumulative years of research into such matters, their research has the attention of Honorary Research Associate at the University of Manchester (and Senior Bioinformatics data scientist at Wellome Sanger institute) one Dr Matiss Ozols. Apparently hinging on synthesising peptide …

I am an artist and I want to drip something to create stalagmites over time, but obviously a lot faster than limestone versions we know of in caves today. I've haphazardly discovered that sodium silicate with epson salts might be able to do this (although I am not completely sure) There are a lot of logistics to this idea and maybe there is a better type of solution that would work. If anyone has any ideas of how I could do this and what solutions I could use that would be helpful - thanks

Hi. Once upon a time, saw silver utensils had a paper sheet in their box claiming the utensils would not need cleaning if such paper was kept in their proximity. Some 'magical' compound impregnated the paper My oscilloscopes are seeing little exercising of the buttons, switches, levers, controls lately... which I believe are mostly made of brass/bronze/copper. What compound could I keep inside electronic equipment that will prevent contacts to become tarnished and perform less than ideal, impregnating something ? I guess the electronic instruments would have to be covered to avoid air flow in them for such 'magic' compound to be more effective, right …
