Could someone recommend to me a good free start up manager for Window XP? I am getting sick of all the crap my pc starts when I switch it on.

I re-installed windows on a new HDD. I notice that my old HDD has the same connectors as my cdrom drive. can I temporarily connect my old HDD to the cdrom connectors to try to retrieve some files....that is, it will become the D: drive. Thanks for any help

For some reason my photo blog does not display correctly in IE. The problem is that IE is not displaying the thumbnails in a table-cell. I type something in the search box area in google and then I search for something. Afterwards it corrects me on my spelling, and then I try highlighting the text using keyboard commands.. ctrl+shift+left key left key and then the text disappears.. i was able to push control c.. wtf? why is this happening? bug?

I just resently got a new kennsington mouse and after I installed the drivers it COMPLETLY SCREWED UP MY COMPUTER. Now when I try to go on the Internet it times out, even when I try to connect through a proxy. My sygate firewall will not start. The mouse is way to sensitive on everything but the desktop. The floopy drive doesn't work. System restore does not work (I tried mulitple points) I have tried my old mouse on the computer (it thinks it's the new mouse), tried uninstalling the mouse drivers (didn't help), tried scan disk, defrag, antivirus and antispyware scans (did nothing), and tried the Internet with the same modem on a different computer…

I've always wondered how speed of a drive is measured. When you're burning a disc and the computer says the drive is writing at 24x, how fast is this in terms of information per unit of time?

A friend's computer turns off after running for about 15 minutes. She asked me to see if I could fix her computer because she doesn't have very much money. I started working on the computer, and I realized that the power supply is overheating. There is some type of brown substance coming out of the power supply, and it covered the power supply's fan. It is also falling down into the rest of the computer. It is on the CPU, IDE cables, hard drive, and RAM. Ok here is the scenario. I will try to keep it simple for a reasonable diagnosis. I had installed windowsxp home, and then I proceeded to install my new mobo drivers, but I left the 4 in 1 drivers for last (why I dont know, im an idiot I guess). Well, upon reset, I was going to install the drivers when as soon as I got to windows the comp would reset. I could only get to the OS in safe mode, and even then the comp would reset if I attempted to even browse the mobo driver CD. So I tried to reinstall windows itself, but when its loading the initial drivers it hangs on "Generic USB parent driver" most of the time, but also hangs on random others as well, and then stop…

Hi, I have mysql Version 3.2 on my server. I want to upgrade it to MYSQL 4.0. Can you please help me how can i upgrade my mysql database users to this new version? I do not know already existing mysql server users passwords so i can not create them in new MYSQL 4.0 database. I have tried by importing mysql database to MYSQL 4.0 but its not accepting users. I recently bought a USB flash drive. I want to have a folder with sensitive files that I don't want people to be able to see without a password. I also want to access those files without installing software on the computer accessing them. I tried using password protected zipped folders but I could still brows the folder and look at the file types and names. Is there a simple and free way to do this? I am willing to have software installed onto the flash drive to be able to access the secure files. Any Ideas?

I have a PII with win 98 installed and it wont run in a graphics mode higher than 640x480 16 bit. I have tried different video cards that are capable of running at high graphics modes but they wont go into those modes when installed in this computer. What can I do? I'm not sure if it is software or hardware problem. I'm going to install XP and see if I can use the better modes but till then any ideas why I'm having these problems?

When I used OpenOffice in Knoppix, it had a math typsetting program. When I accessed OpenOffice in Ubuntu, it didn't. Is it just hiding from me? If not, where can I download that program or a similar one?

Ok, I had always told everyone i knew never to buy any kind of computer hardware on ebay becuase you will always get ripped off. So i bought a 1 gb usb flash drive on ebay for 43$ , and when it arrived i knoticed it was a fake. The package had already been opended, the fake usb drive had some minor scratches on it. I have just bought a wireless router of brand Belkin, model #: F5D7231-4. It was working OK, when I set it up alright. However, a catastrophe happens when I was trying every function of it with the manual. In the webbased user interface, I enabled the so called Access Point Mode, which requires fields to enter, the Specific IP Adress and the Subnet Mask. I thought it was to set a wireless access point sort of thing so I can access to the Internet wirelessly via a laptop, but after reading the manual, I finally realised it is to do "bridge" sort of thing. i closed My Documents and it decided it didn't want to respond. when it finally went away, so did my taskbar and my desktop.
