    Hi, I'm currently in the process of designing a product. It needs to work like invisible ink, but instead of reacting to UV light, I need it to show up when exposed to a normal bright light source. For instance if this clear ink was used on a piece of paper, then photocopied, it would show up on the print. Although the ink on the original piece of paper would remain invisible. I'm not sure if any chemicals used during the process of film developing would be useful? The chemical must be safe to use and be non permanent if used on glass. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    if you place sodium in a container of water you will have a solution of sodium hydroxide right? and if you boil the water out will you have pure sodium hydroxide or will it evaporate along with the water? also could you make small amounts of sodium from molten sodium hydroxide with out an inert atmosphere (small like a few milligrams small) does anyone have a link of what molten sodium hydroxide looks like? http://www.sas.org/E-Bulletin/2001-10-05/chem/column.html This website makes making sodium seem easy is it really that simple? -thanks

  4. Hello guys, This might be a simple concept for you guys but I'm bit confused. We are learning rates of reaction and why does a crushed tablet react quicker than a full tablet. Any diagrams to help me with this would also be great. And while we are at I got few questions on equilibirum constant. Let's say we have to write our own equation and let's say its a combustion reaction. We can choose if the product water is liquid or gas. But If choose liquid I won't be able to use it in the equillibirum constant Kp. So which state do I use Why is temperature the only thing that changes th equilibirum constant?     I have this multiple choice question asking me which functional group is a base, an amino group (NH2) or a phosphate group (PO4-) It says the answer is the amino group, and I get that NH2 would accept a hydrogen ion to become ammonia, but I don't understand why a phosphate group wouldn't. .... when I don't understand something, I obsess over it, so bear with me here ... A phosphate group seems like a perfect candidate to accept H+, right?? I mean, in its ionized state. It's got TWO perfectly good negatively charged oxygen atoms with only one bond each sitting there, just asking for a proton, so why does my answer key tell me a phosphate group isn't a base?? …

    It's just a curiosity. When the hydrogen ignites during the explosive reaction Na + H2O* * 2Na + 2H2O --> 2NaOH + H2 Can the Na that didn't react yet, react with O2 of the fire? 4Na + O2 --> 2Na2O And produce sodium oxide which would fall on water and producce NaOH? I remember I've put it in a Chemistry Lab Report and the teacher did not understand why did I 'invent' it... Can't it happen?

  7. Things are getting rather costly over here (and by the looks of things, all around the world). I intend to learn more about the sciences and am keen to play around a bit with chemistry. At the moment my knowledge on the subject is very poor though (I'm learning fast). I want to buy my chemicals and instruments while I can still afford them. I'll worry about what to do with them later. Was wondering if anyone had advice on what I should buy? I'm going to buy some magnesium for sure. What else might a budding chemist want to obtain before his country falls into a recession and he has to struggle just to pay for the food? Thanks

    Was woundering about what type of chemicals can be found naturally accuring in the environment without requiring large amounts of money/equipment to extract it. Hydrogen and Oxygen are two obvious ones. Also, how would one go about distillation of these? Or is water a compound rather than a mixture? Hydrogen has a boiling point of -252.87 °C so I assume there's no point in the usual distillation method.     The electrolysis of water is formed by producing an electric current through water that causes the reaction: [math]H_{2}O (l)[/math] ---> [math]H_{2}(g) + O_{2}(g)[/math]. When water is heated, the following occurs: [math]H_{2}O (l)[/math] ---> [math]H_{2}O (g)[/math] It turns into vapor. Doesn't electricity product heat? So shouldn't that heat evaporate the water instead of decomposing it?

    Hello, I am by no means a scientist, but more of a curious thinker. Today I saw a video news clip about the car they have developed to run on H2O. I knew they had developed a bus a while ago, but finally a smaller car. I believe the operation of the car is this, the water is split into Oxygen and Hydrogen, then the Hydrogen is then used to move the car. I assume the Oxygen is released into the air.   21. Hi! I mixed two diffrent liquids (we don't know what they're made of- Lets call them X and Y), there is a chemical reaction that occurs. Bubbles appear and the temperture increases. The thing is that 25ml of liquid x + 25 of liquid y won't give us 50ml but 48ml instead. Now for the how this happens (PLease correct me): the atoms composing the molecules will get seperated and will mix with other atoms from diffrent molecules creating that way, new substances. Now for the missing 2ml, (correct me again) I thought that gaz atoms (like hydrogen) that got seperated will simpily fly away - OR MAYBE - 2 atoms will make a gaz subbstance and that is why there is a loss of g…

  23. need to find wavelength using work function and info that the wavelength of light is to remove one electron from an atom. can i ignore the mass of an electron and just use E=hc/wavelength or do i have to incorporate it into some other formula? thanks!
