Hey All - new poster here and would gladly appreciate a push in the right direction for my Global Environment class...I'll set up the problem and show you the work I have done so far... Question: Imagine a hypothetical population with three assumptions: 1) Males and females are in the same abundance in all age classes beginning in year 0 2) Newborn males produced @ the same rate as newborn females by mothers of all ages 3) Males and females have same per capita survival rate in all of the different age classes After knowing this I am supposed to find out how many males of each age are present in the population starting @ age 2... Ok what I have done …

I have been brainstorming ideas for a design of an "egg catcher". This is not the traditional "egg dropper" but instead, i need to build a device that will catch an egg in freefall and bring it to a stop without breaking it. The restrictions are only that it is not more than 1 meter tall, and that it does not weigh more than 40kg. The raw egg is going to be dropped from 30 feet approx. I though that using air as a cushion would be best, so i think what i might try is to get a leaf blower and stand it up-right. Then i will affix a mesh bag or something to the end of it so that the egg will fall into the bag and the air will slow its decent gradually (maybe even s…

In class, Ive we've all been given mini-debate topics about various UN topics. Mine was about the Rights of The Child conference. I have also been given the affirmative position thereby standing behind the US adopting and ratifying the convention. The problem is that I dont have too great of an arguement for the US to adopt it. I have a feeling that my opposition will be arguing that it is anti-family. http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/k2crc.htm That is the actual conference. Any help is appreciated!

yes, yes, i know...the question seems really dumb, i don't even know what branch of science it is. but i can't change my science project any more....please...... i've been searching the internet for hours, i cant find anything....so, do words affect our sense of taste? Like, if you give someone 2 cookies(exactly the same) and say that one of the cookies are better, will it make them think that way?

Hey, in our physics class, we're using lasers for an application of trigonometry. Anyways, today we were supposed to find out the height of a tower at our school. I thought we would be using lasers to figure it out, but we won't. To do it, I believe you need a side and an angle. My friend says to use a straw and look through it as a telescope to aim it at the top of the tower while you're close to the ground, then measure the angle. Then measure the distance you are from the tower and that should be enough to figure out the height. This method would give a relatively accurate measurement since the tower is pretty tall. But is there some other way to do i…

I've got a test tomorrow. As I was working on some of the review problems, I came across two I couldn't answer: [math]\lim_{x \to 0} \frac{sin[(\pi/6)+\Delta{x}]-(1/2)}{\Delta{x}}[/math] [math]\lim_{x \to +0} \frac{csc(2x)}{x}[/math] Please help with an analytical proof. Oh, and how do I type the symbol for "all real numbers".

HI! I am new to this forums and this is my first post. Look, I have a homework problem that I hope you guys know how to figure it out. Here it is: Recently, Dr, Frank has suggested that EArth may be pelted by thousands of house-sized comets. When Frank first considered the idea of mini-comets falling to earh , he no doubt tried to make a quick calculation. Comets are like dirty snowballs that evaporate when they enter the atmosphere. Oceans have accumulated from these comets over the years. Use the following information to estimate what percent of Earth's oceans could be accounted for givena constant bombardment by comets over the last 4 million years: 1…

Hi. I'm new to the forums. Anyways, how are silicon wafers made? I searched the internet and can't find much information. Some are confusing me. I need to make a paragraph or two on the creation of how silicon wafers are made. So far, I have 2 paragraphs and in it I talked about distilling and purificating silicon dioxide. I don't know If that's enough. Each thing leads to something else from the websites I've read and I only need to to explain how silicon wafer are made. Some come from what I wrote so far which is the distilling and purificating silicon dioxide then all of a sudden x-ray visions come up. Any help please?

Living cells require energy for the activities of life. Energy is released in every cell by the process of Cellular Respiration. In this process glucose is oxidised to produce energy. Gases need to be exchanged between the cells undergoing Cellular Respiration and the environment. In most organisms these gases are oxygen and carbon dioxide. You are to compare the structures and processes involved in gas exchange in an Angiosperm, Insect, Fish, Amphibian and a mammal. - The purpose of gas exchange in these organisms - The structures involved for exchanging gases in each of the above organisms. - How gases are exchanged between the organisms and its environ…

    Here is the question: Displacement for an object in metres, x, is given by the equation: x=1.5t^2 + 4t + 2 Find the average velocity from t=2 to t=4. Now, every single person in the class, including the teacher, did this method: t=2: 1.5(2)^2 + 4(2) + 2 = 16 t=4: 1.5(4)^2 + 4(4) + 4 = 42 (42-16)/(4-2) = 13 My method was this: t=2: 1.5(2)^2 + 4(2) + 2 = 16m over 2 seconds, or 8 m/s t=4: 1.5(4)^2 + 4(4) + 4 = 42m over 4 seconds, or 10.5 m/s Therefore, the average velocity from t=2 to t=4 would be: (8+10.5)/(2) or 9.25 m/s Essentially, the first method gives the average DISPLACEMENT from 2 to 4, whereas my method is giving the average VELOC…

Ive been given an assignment to study the Tradescantia pallida (Purple Heart/purple queen). It's a very strange plant. I have just a few questions about it- 1. Why exactly do the leaves of the plant turn purple? 2. I've read that it's both tropical, as well as a cactus...where does it normally grow on the globe? 3. How much fertilizer is needed per week (keep in mind that my Purple heart is in a pot with something like 2 other plants of a different species) All comments/suggestions are helpful. Appreciate it!

Why water flow from high concentrated solution to low? Isn't the pressure of the mixture of sodium chloride+water exerts a higher pressure to the lower? Hence, the salt+water would flow to the low one. But, in fact, the truth contradicts this. Why? I hope I can find out the answer
