  1. You should try changing the font setting of your browser. I remember I had this trouble when I first joined http://www.artofproblemsolving.com . What do you mean by it's "very unstability"? I also highly recommend AoPS (the Art of Problem Solving) for anyone interested in problem solving mathematics. Uh, just don't go there looking for a place to get your homework problems done for you...the users of those boards really hate when people do that.
  2. As a runner I know that soda isn't very good for hydration(especially sodas with caffeine). I was wondering if caffeine free sodas were much better. Obviously they don't have the caffeine which is a plus. But in terms of benefits for running how do they compare to stuff like water. I know that water is better but how much better and why?
  3. You use the equation under the square root because the only way that the whole quadratic formula can be complex is if you have a negative under a square root. This is the only square root I see so it makes sense to look there. Also since it is +/- the only way that you can have one solution multiplicity two (two solutions that are the same number) is if the discriminant is equal to zero. Also, to clarify the quad form gives you both solutions. That is where the +/- comes in.
  4. I just wanted to note that for the ppl who believe that .9999.... is not equal to one then they would be asserting that Zeno's Paradoxes were true. Which in turn would disprove motion. And that would probably screw up a lot of stuff.
  5. Just a random question: does constantly holding your breath create any health problems? Or is it like an aerobic exercise where it helps you? I was just wondering.
  6. Imagine if they put this on the spelling be... Can anyone even pronounce this word? I mean really it would be pretty cool to memorize but it would take a while to do so. Its kind of like memorizing pi cool but ultimately useless. Challenge: Use this word in a daily conversation!!!
  7. Yeah, but this forum is called the homework help forum. Unless it's a project you usually don't have much time for the problems(one day most of the time). I was expecting a reply before I got the test back but since I got the test back first I just told everyone that help wasn't needed anymore.
  8. Hmm, no one wanted to help. O well I got my test back and I got it right. I asked this question because the pH was about 14.07. While I was taking the test I thought that it was ok to have a pH above 14 but wasn't sure.
  9. This problem seems really easy (and probably is) but I am troubled by it for some reason. I can't remember it exactly because it was on a test in my high school chem. class today. What is the pH of a solution that has 12.00 g Na(OH)2 and 250.0 mL H2O?
  10. Yeah, I wasn't planning on it. I was just saying what my fav. field was.
  11. Well I wouldn't say that I have a whole lot of experience in chemistry since I started the class in January or so(I was on block schedule i.e. double the time each day). We have covered so far basic molecular structure, gas laws, phases of matter and their properties, solutions, acids, bases, titration, pH(and pOH), and thats about it so far. In the last two week of school we will cover basic organic chemistry. Oh yeah, we also went over nuclear chemistry very briefly. I can't say that I am interested in one area more than another being that I am such a low level of chemistry. Nevertheless I would have to say that nuclear chemistry fascinates me the most. This said I would think that nuclear chem. is probably the hardest of the subjects I have learned to do at home.
  12. Yeah I know that it has to be original. What I meant to ask was a topic to look into. I guess say that I didn't say that very clearly.
  13. I wasn't sure where this post should go so I put it here. Does anyone have any ideas for a Siemens Westinghouse project that I can do(or at least an area that I could look into)?
  14. School is almost up for me. I'm a sophomore in high school, by the way. I took my first chemistry class the last half of the year and loved it. My teacher was great. She knew so much about chemistry and knew how to impart it perfectly. Now, my question is I want to continue to explore chemistry over the summer. What should I do? That is what cool experiments do you know that can be done with easily attainable supplies(i.e. local hardware store) at my house? Also, what are some of the best sites to learn chemistry off of? Thanks.
  15. Here are a few challenge problems to solve (I don't know what the difficulty of this board is so I would appreciate comments) 1. u and w are in degrees. tan(U)=1/2 and tan(w) = 2 find tan(u-w) 2. There are 20 switches in two columns each with 10 in them. Each switch is either on or off. If exactly 5 must be on in each column what is the number of distinct ways the switches can be set? 3. A metal plate of constant thickness is cut into a rt. triangle. The coordinates are (0,0), (2,0) and (2,1). The plate is balanced on a fulcrum on the side which connects (0,0) and (2,0). Find the x coordinate of the balance point of the fulcrum.
