I am just doing a simple integral using substitution and when I check it by taking the derivative it not coming out as the same answer. I am taking [math] \int \frac{x}{(2+x^2)^2} [/math] and getting [math] \frac{-1}{2(2+x^2)} [/math]. When I take the derivative of that function I get [math] \frac{4x}{(4+2x^2)^2} [/math]. Where is my mistake?

Help me solve this linear programming problem. Can't decide whether it's a maximization/minimization problem? In the J & K grocery store, shelf space is limited and must be used effectively to increase profit. Two cereal items, Grano and Wheatie, compete for a total shelf space of 79ft^2. A box of Grano occupies 0.2ft^2 and a box of Wheatie needs 0.4ft^2. The maximum daily demands of Grano and Wheatie are 280 and 127 boxes, respectively. A box of Grano nets $1.00 in profit and a box of Wheatie $1.47. J & K thinks that because the unit profit of Wheatie is 47% higher than of Grano, Wheatie should be allocated 47% more space than Grano, which amounts to allo…

I need help with this organic chemistry problem: "Organic compounds typically absorb infrared radiation. This absorption is due to: " I know that an organic compound is one that contains carbon and carbon normally tends to form four single bonds with [math]sp^{3}[/math], tetrahedral geometry. Although carbon does also form double bonds resulting in either sp or [math]sp^{2}[/math] with either linear or triangular planar geometries respectively. But, I do not understand how the molecular structure affects the absorption of radiation.

I don't understand why carboxylic acid is more acidic than diketone with 2 alpha protons adjacent to 2 carbonyls Shouldn't the two ketones have more inductive effect on the alpha protons than one ketone and one hydroxide? Thank you for the help ^^

Hellooo all you astronomy/mechanics wizzes. I had my final final today, and I am hoping I did well. I felt okay, but it's a confusing subject so.. well, I'd appreciate actually seeing if I made it. It's not too much about the grade (class avg is in the 40s so far), it's more about making sense of it and makign sure I understood things right. Either I will have to take this course again (meh) or I continue to more difficult subjects, in both cases I should understand this material well. So.. on we go: Problem 1 Consider a simple pendulum where the bob of mass m is attached to the support by a thin spring (taken to be massless) of spring constant k. The equilib…

If car would drive 15 km/h faster it would get to point B one hour earlier. If 10 km/h slower, it would take one hour more. Must find the speed of the car and distance it was driving. I am really embarrassed, because i knew how to do it about 3 years ago. But totally forgot it by now. I can give answers, but i need to know how i can get the answer. Thank you all.

Alright, I have a question. I've been working on this question with a friend for over an hour, and simply cannot get it. "A curve is parametrized by the equations x=square-root t, and y=(t-3)^2. Find an equation of the line tangent to the curve at the point defined by t=9" I know the answer is y=72x-180, because it is a study sheet, not actual homeowork. However, I need to understand how to do it for obvious reasons. Any help would be appreciated EDIT: Gaah, got it. We were taking the first derivative at the wrong time Delete please, Admins

I'm stuck with how to find the buoyancy force on an object. I know how to find density but I can't find it in my textbook how to find the buoyancy force. Could someone help with the general idea of finding the buoyancy force? I don't need the answer, just what equation I should be using for this. Thanks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the maximum kinetic energy of a photoelectron, Ek,max , to the smallest amount of energy, E0, needed to free an electron from the metal, and the energy, Eph , of the incident photons of light: Ek,max = Eph – E0 In addition, you know from Equation 10.1 that Eph = hf where h is the Planck constant and f is the frequency of the incident light. Which one of the following graphs represents the relationship between Ek,max and f ? attachment of graphs is attached. thanks trigger. Attached Thumbnails

Hi all, Nearly all of the energy used on earth comes originally from the sun, and that solar radiation is intercepted at 1370 Wm^-^2 at the top of the atomsphere, and that 49%of this radiation is absorbed by the earths surface. If a shallow dish containing ice or warte, placed on the earth surface, absorbs the same the same fraction of solar radiation as the surface itself, at what rate is energy absorbed from the sun by such a container of surface 0.039m^2 ? This is how i worked it out, .49*1370 = watts per square meter absorbed Multiply that by the dish area. So is the correct answer 67130 Wm^2 thanks carl1

I need help starting it...I think if I understand how to start the problem I can solve it...and probably part b too. The partition function, q, can be used to determine the thermodynamic properties of a system. During the lecture for chapter 12, we have derived, as an example, the partition function of a simple two-state system. We have also used q to determine the internal energy for this system. An important aspect of thermodynamics is to know the internal energy for a system of particles that can translate (move) in free space, but that cannot vibrate or rotate (an ideal gas would be such a simple model system). a) Please derive the partition function, q, f…

Hi, if somebody can give me some insight into this question, it would be greatly appreciated. A solution of vinegar is divided into 2 equal parts. Water is added to one part, while an equal volume of ethanol is added to the other. Do the two parts have the same pH? Why or Why not? If so, which solution is more acidic and why? So, I realize that there's something to do with pKa and the dissociation of ethanol when it is placed in water. When there's ionization, then, the pH will be adjusted. Am I on the right track?

I have a question here...umm i don't really understand how you would find total mass of a solution or substance...and with total mass in mind what is the difference between total mass, molar mass, molarity, and moles? I want to know what equations to use to find these four things. My teacher doesn't tell us that this equation is for this and that, so i'm having a hard time understanding which equation use. So if anyone can please help me then i would greatly appreciate it...

Well, for our Organic I Final, we get a chance to answer a bonus question Our prof gave us three questions and told us that one would be the bonus, and that we can figure out the right one and do it, or memorize all three. But upon further research, the other two are Chemically Impossible. So, if you Chemists out there could help me out that would be great! The Q is: "Propose a method to synthesize (E)-4-octene from coumpunds with three or fewer carbon atoms." As it happens, I suck at the retro-thinking required for synthesis problem solving, so any info is greatly appreciated! >>Thanks<< Lan

We are now on the synthesis of the different macromolecules in a prokaryotic cell. Our teacher gave us a homework and now I am trying to answer the last question. But I can't seem to find anything on the internet or on the microbiology and biochemistry books I went through. Describe the process by which capsule is synthesized in a bacterial cell. I tried to key in "capsule synthesis", "glycocalyx synthesis", and "synthesis of...". But all I got were abstracts that didn't really explain anything about the process. I would appreciate any help.

I'm scared! I'm worried about a paper I have here ( It's also my first post so yea ). I think it's okay at best. I'm looking for critiques on wording, the science, and pretty much everything. Comes with Works cited too! And i think my conclusion is TERRIBLE, so yea. Also Intro might need work, but yea. And Maybe a cooler title, like my post name. ( Keep in mind this is a High School Paper D:) Forcing Flight Since the beginning of man’s existence, we have been fascinated by creatures of flight, creatures that can overcome the force produced by an object 7927 miles in diameter! Through fierce determination and human ingenuity, we have created fascinating technology to …
