Hi, I'm prepping to take the NYSTCE CST Earth Science exam. I have many study guides (Xam book, Morrison Media's study guide, Teaching solutions success system, reviewing prior high school earth science exams etc.) Does anyone know of a class offered in Putnam or Westchester County; I have not been sucessful in locating one?

If I were to track weather or climate over the last 25 years, what would be the best graph to use: bar graph, pie chart, line graph or, pictograph. I am struggling between a line graph or bar graph because a line graph usually compares two variables (independent & dependent) where as a bar graph is useful in comparing data about one thing at different times. The later fits; however, I think a line graph is correct?

I'm hoping to move into neuroscience at some point. From what I can gather there's a range of BSc subjects acceptable (including biology, biomedical science) for entrance onto more specific neurology post graduate degrees and training posts. Does anyone know if this is the case? I'm in the UK. I'll be starting a biomedical science BSc next year since I currently work in the area, but I want to make sure that I'm not making a bad undergrad choice that will mean having to do a second more relevant BSc before moving into neuroscience. Thanks in advance!

Hey, This week the skeptical podcast "Skepticality" had an AWESOME interview with the producers of the show "Numb3rs" (you can find it here, as episode #092) well worth a listen. If you don't know what this show is about, go to its official page or wikipedia, both have a fairly good description. I really recommend watching it, though, it's AWESOME and depicts math and sciences and general skepticism in a very good light. I never thought math could be this interesting and fun (and I'm a physics student! ) Anyways, what I found most interesting is that a question was raised about the educational system and this show. Specifically, the producers were asked about …

HI, I was just wondering if it was ok to store your PCR in -4C overnight and thawing to do a PCR clean up the next day? Will this screw up my results or should it be ok to do THanks, Christy.

I don't know what to do! I am engulfed into my own little world of science, and becoming more and more confused. I love science. I want to study science, learn science, and contribute to science. Initially, I was intrigued by biological sciences, and still am. But, as I venture further into more diverse categories of science, I become even more intrigued, and don't know exactly what I want to study. I just need some feedback from anybody who has previously been in this situation and could give some advice as to how I could get through this a little easier. I would greatly appreicate it.

Hello to everyone at SFN. I'm a new member here and I've come here because of my love of science and also the fact that I am in dire need of some serious advice!!! Well to start off I am in England at sixth form level, I am doing Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (you can already see that I love science just that much ) and I am going to drop either maths of physics next year (unless I decide to carry on to do 4 'A2's). Now I was really unsure what degree to apply for 100% - then I started to narrow down a bit and decided that, although I do love physics and maths, my real love is biology/chemistry. My real interest is the study and application of stem c…

How are the prospects for a PHD + MBA profile? How would an MBA add value to a PHD profile in a pharma industry? Please advise... Thanks, Dr A

Hi guys, this is my first post on these boards. Anyyways, here's my problem: It's about time to apply to University/College, and I just don't know what to do. I love both Chemistry and Biology, but when looking at University programs, there are just so many choices. So, I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on where to go from here?

Before coming to US I was working as a Junior Research Fellow in PGIMER ( Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research). I worked on Protein Biochemistry and Moleclar biology. During my masters I gave GRE and scored 1260 (530 verbal and 730 Quant), my toefl score was 102. I have scored 70% in masters. I applied for Phd last year, but did'nt get call from any university. I am really confused, should i go for a job or i should do a phd.....or a mba after doing job for three four years. Please help I am really confused. Thanking y…

  16. What were, for you, the hardest classes you took in the pursuit of your biology/bioscience-typed major? Now this is probably going to differ wildly between individuals and between different schools, but I'm just curious if any general patterns emerge.

Yes, it's now the time for me to choose colleges and complete all my applications. I'm seriously considering both physics and mathematics as degree choices. What colleges do you know of that have excellent physics and math programs? I'm aiming high here -- I've already sent an application in to MIT (here's to optimism) -- but feel free to suggest something from any part of the spectrum. I'd just like to get a feel for what programs are particularly well-known or generally awesome. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to be going to the U of A (Arizona) soon and I can't decide on a major yet and I was hoping for a little insight. My two choices are Physiology or Physics. I took both classes and LOVED both of them. Physiology came to be much more naturally (it seemed to be incredibly easier to me) I finished number one in my class and I was so interested in it I decided I wanted to be a doctor. IN physics I really liked that I could change the variables int the equations and be creative and explore the theories and stuff, but it didn't come to me as easy. At the U of A, there is a Physiology Major, but unfortunately, Physiology majors don't get accepted to med …

Hi, just wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to get any sort of job in the computer technology sector without a college diploma or university degree, but instead having certifications like a bunch CompTIA certifications in different things? Anybody currently working in the computer technology sector that could give any advice? Specifically networking and linux operating systems are some of my interests, but I'm not sure if I want to go back to college. As I am a fan of learning and gaining knowledge for myself, but not so much a fan of school. I would rather start collecting certifications in things that interest me, and am just wondering if I could get a go…

hey how you all doing? Can anyone tell me 2 scenarios that could possibly lead to no overall change in GMST in this way. (1) The fraction of Earth's surface covered with ice and snow decreases while the albedo of the surface (which isn't covered by ice and snow) decreases. (2) The atmospheric CO2 concentration decreases while the solar constant increases. (3) The volcanic aerosol content in the atmosphere increases while the atmospheric H2O concentration decreases. (4)The volcanic aerosol content in the atmosphere decreases while the atmospheric CO2 concentration increases. (5)The albedo of the surface (which isn't covered by ice and snow) decreas…

Hey guys, so out of curiosity, I'm just wondering what kinds of careers are there for someone who loves scuba diving, likes the ocean, finds marine biology fascinating and likes aquatic animals in general? I know the obvious choice is marine biology, but since that's such a small field, I'm wondering what other fields or specific jobs are related that I could maybe look into. I think I would like ichythology as well, not sure what else. I don't know if I would have any interest in lab research yet....I like being out in the field, so maybe field research would have more interest for me. I'm kind of just looking for general advice, whether to get a M.S. or PhD, what th…
