Prior to the processing of gold in the economy of scale necessary step preproduction through in-depth study of various aspects. One study that needs to be done is to test the mineral content of rock ore to be processed. The process of analyzing in detail the content of metallic minerals from rock samples taken from the soil in a land that has been in the survey will be a very important mineral content of the metal held in which the function of the activity analysis is to support the production activities in large-scale gold processing. One form of assessment activities is the analysis of rock samples to see in detail the content of metals contained in the land which will …

Hi, So let me get straight to the point. I am currently studying for my Msc in Computer Science at a uni that is 110th in the world. However, my grades suffered in my first semester due to some emotional trouble i faced and now I can only reasonably achieve abt 3.0 to 3.2 GPA. So I was wondering if anyone knew of any Phd programs that accept students in with a 3.0-3.2 GPA but with funding? I corresponded with a few (IIT(US) and HKPU(Hong Kong)) and they all said the MINIMUM requirement is 3.0 but said nothing specific abt funding. I dont really need to get into a top tier uni, ill be fine with middle tier unis as well as long as I get funding to do Phd. My C…

I'm somewhat skeptical if this is the right section for this sort of question or if I should post it in the Biology section but anyhow, I'd like to know more about this "Junk" DNA, and what little is known about it. I mean, most DNA being useless? Doesn't it sound silly? They mention 98% of DNA is considered Junk DNA: here 98% is astounding. It reminds me of the myth that says we only use 10% of our brain or so, and also of a documentary I watched about how we could be as strong as a bodybuilder in emergency situations due to emergency energy stored in our muscles, etc. Because it makes me think, what other amazing secrets does our body hide? So anywa…

I was just recently accepted to an Undergraduate Program in Chemistry, and I will finally be going to school. I had applied for the summer term but am thinking I will go to the school tomorrow to see if I can make that a little sooner and enroll for the winter term. It has taken me fifteen years to get to this point, because of the type of person that I am. Regardless, I will only be completing 45 - 60 credits at this school and will be transferring to UBC for their Biochemistry program the following year. I've been looking over a lot of information and have been planning my path to education and I am feeling pretty lucky with the way things might work out. I'm cu…

I am now in my last year of school and I have to start sending applications to universities in the next couple of months. The problem is that I don't know what to major in, and I don't want to skip any years (gap year). I really love chemistry but I don't want to end up being a chemistry teacher and would like to make some good money. What majors involve the following subjects: Chemistry (mostly), Physics and Maths (both less than chemistry)? I gave PharmD a thought but apparently working in the industry is pretty hard: you have to work over-time, the work conditions aren't that pretty and your job isn't that secure in the large firms. I also love experimenting with new…

I am currently a junior, have 1.5 years left at UW-Madison. I am thinking of applying to grad school for neuroscience, thinking of computational, systems, maybe cognitive. I am also interested in brain imaging. I am wondering about opinions on what my chances are of getting into programs, and if anyone was in a similar position as me, or has any advice. My majors are psychology, neurobiology, and I am hoping to get a certificate(minor) in computer science. My GPA is 3.85, conservatively, it might go down when I take all the CS courses, but maybe not. I've worked in 3 labs in the last 2 years, only one of them neurobiology. My current lab has nothing to do w…

I thought I'd post a heads up, there's going to be an AAPT meeting in Ontario, California Feb 4-8. It should be a great place to discuss science education with emphasis on physics to all ages. There are sessions about AP Physics, Animation Physics in Hollywood, Best Practices about Increasing the Number of Women in Physics, Outreach, Pre High school, etc etc. It's a great convention for anyone interested in physics and science education. Also, I will be delivering a short (and hopefully very good) lecture titled "Developing Extension Activities for APS PhysicsQuest: Inquiry-based Learning" which is based on my experience in my internship in APS Outreach during th…

Hey guys. I'm a high school senior who is going to start applying to colleges in the near future. I'm trying to decide on a major to list (not a critical choice given how much time I have left), and I'm debating whether biochemistry is a good choice. I'm currently interested in medicine (MD/PA) or pharmaceutical research. However, given the state of the economy, health-care and such, I want to have a major that's versatile enough to provide back-up plans, such as possibly business (not really interested in it, but seems to be one of the few healthy fields right now). Would biochemistry give me that flexibility, or is it really not useful beyond medical fields? Thanks for …

I'm getting older, and an opportunity to return to school has presented itself. But I'm worried that my math and science skills aren't up to par. I did very well in high school, but it's been a long time. I've forgotten basic things—very basic things; so basic it's embarrassing. After briefly researching these things online, I began picking them up again fairly quickly and it's like I never forgot them at all. But I still need some help. Can you guys recommend any websites or books that offer a crash course refresher in mathematics? Science? I just need to get to freshman level - I'll have to take precalculus/calculus, as well as biology and chemistry, and I don't wa…

Hey everyone, I'm in the USA, but Happy Thanksgiving to all!!! What public schools did everyone attend for an undergraduate BS degree, and then moved towards the graduate level of a PhD in theoretical string theory/theoretical particle physics theory? In otherwords, whatever school you guys went too, was it an excellent college that gets you ready for more advanced work such as going deep out into the string theory field? Or was the college didn't know how to teach a class by having poor reputation, and the college was more on the academic level rather then heavy physics? I never took my SAT's, or any kind of testing like that. I have plans on going to a l…

I'm almost ready to publish an update to a computer program which models the very basics of cognition/intelligence and theoretically where large numbers of them are simultaneous active in a simulated world is capable of self-organizing into structures that have a tendency to mirror their likeness. But since the goal of the challenge is to produce an intelligence from an intelligence this fully qualifies as an intelligent causation (intelligent cause) so I have a serious dilemma caused by overzealous activists who attack any scientific research even at the university level that is not brain produced intelligence or AI. From experience I'm not worried about it not passing …

I just got back from tutoring students at a local high school. It was an event for students specifically taking AP classes, which culminate in an exam which is accepted for credit by many universities. The students are generally high school seniors -- 17 or 18. Every student had a TI-89 calculator which they used to solve every problem. At one point, a student was working out some arithmetic and encountered this: [math]2\times \frac{4}{5} =\; ?[/math] She paused, looked uncertain, and said "well, I don't know that off the top of my head" and reached for her calculator. I'd ask other students "okay, now solve that equation for t" and they'd stare at me blan…

If I'm not mistaken, the seasons of the year exist due to Earth's translation around the Sun, and how close our planet is from it during this oval-shaped route the Earth "draws" during It's course. (therefore causing temperature and weather variations) Now, I'm curious. Day and Night happen due to Earth's rotations around It's own axis, therefore causing certain locations of our planet to be "shadowed", while others receive the Sun's light. In certain seasons it becomes dark faster than in others, while the time at which the sun rises and the environment becomes bright again, seems to remain the same despite season. I wake up more less about the time the sky beco…

I think this thread is more aimed at people who already have a college/university degree. That's the intended audience, but others can chime in as well. I often consider learning things in my own time, such as furthering my computer science knowledge or engineering knowledge. At the moment, I'm interested in furthering my mathematics knowledge. I'd like to further my knowledge of engineering in order to start moving toward the realm of neural engineering. That's another priority on my list of things to do. However, I've often considered that it's better to take the math course rather than self-study. Why? Because it earns me college credit, and a grade acts as…

So I have my cousin here, who is 13. She is a really mature 13 year old who wants to self study online. she wants to find basically an online school. She quite likes Hippocampus and Khan Academy, but she really wants better ones. She particullarly likes Biology. It would be helpful and brilliant if the school had lots of subjects/courses, such as The Sciences, English, History etc. She has only just 13 and she hasn't done anything really complicated, but she's pretty good at Biology and English! So yeah, links qould be great and a little feedback on some sites please!!!

I am in High school and would like to know some things of chemical Engineering. 1. Will you be able to do nano-technology reaserch with it? Or is that for more technology types of engineers? 2. Can anyone with a master of science degree in Chemical Engineering do research instead of working in a factory? 3. Will there be a lot of jobs for it in 6 years from now? Thanks!

Hello, I am a new poster. Like several other posts I have seen on here, I am a current social science major that is in the process of switching to a "hard" science. Unfortunately, I am a senior and just figured out what my passion is. I am new to the sciences so please forgive me for not knowing the exact specifics of what I want to study. I do know what I am interested in and want to study. That leads me to my question. I am interested in genetic engineering. I would like to learn about manipulating DNA and engineering existing DNA. Cloning is also interesting. What degree would best suit me to pursue? I have read a lot online but get general answers. I have narrowed…
