Hi all I'm shure I'm not the only one that feels the edit restrictions are annyoing, especially when you havea big error to correct or something that should be added for other readers. So here is my idea, Wikipedia keeps a record of all previous edits, would it not be possible to do something likethat for a post? That way there could be unlimited edits over any period of time while maintaining the flowof the thread by keeping previous copies for reference. Would something like that be possible? Cheers, Ryan Jones

I think the forum should have a time limit to posting, maybe even like 5 seconds. This could eliminate the accidental embarassing double post and spamming.

SFN really needs to crank up the amount of science news posted in the news forum. It looks rather dull, but considering it's what's on the front page, it ought to be active. Now that I've set up my RSS feeds in Firefox, I'm going to try to post a few science items. But I think we need something like Neowin's setup--people of the rank "newsposter" that post items and moderate the submissions of other members. This way the people with spare time could be allowed to post all sorts of items, and moderate submissions of other members.

Do you think that there should be an SFN user of the year award? This is what I was thinking... There could be an award given to an SFN user for a great post made, or some sort of great contribution to SFN. First, nominees will be picked by everyone who wants to pick someone. Next, there could be a pole to determine the winner. The user who wins will be awarded in a simple way. What do you think of this idea?

Would it be (easily) possible to enhance the search function to allow searching for multiple usernames? The reason behind that question is that I wanted to post a reference one of Severians´ posts in which he had answered a question of mine. But since this forum doesn´t seem to have above option (I didn´t figure out how to do such a search, at least), I had to browse through quite a lot of threads I participated in to find it.

  13. Hi, I have been here for a while now and have often wondered why the forums for Neurosience , Psychology, Genetics and Anatomy and Physiology are grouped under the Medicine forum. I can understand that Psychiatry should be somehow linked to medicine. the others are primarily studied out of the context of a pathological state. Would they not be better placed under biology (I'm not sure about the best place for psychology?)

It was suggested a while back by someone that it would be very nice if we could see how our post count is divided into each forum. For example it would say: "You have X posts in Physics, Y in Chemistry and Z in biology" Is this feature or something similar possible to implement?

I was thinking that it would be cool if SFN had contests-just for fun of course. Maybe there could be photo contests, or best post contests, or anything that fits.

I think SFN should not just be a forum website, but a gaming website too. The games can still have the science theme, but it would add a little pizaaz to the website. Please tell me what you think of my idea. Thanks.

The 'Computer help' subforum does not appear on the Home page of SFN (in the same way that GD doesn't appear). I think that this should be changed and threads in comp help are worthy of the home page. What do others think???

Hi there everyone! I'm just wondering if it would be possible to change the signature limit to 250 instead of 200? A lot of people have asked for an increase and a slight increase could not harm could it? The reason I am asking if I can't fit a lot of things into my Fact Of The Week, I'm shure a lot of other people have the same problem. Anyone who has any comments please post them, staff thanks for taking the time to read this Cheers, Ryan Jones

Hi everyone. I have an idea that may be interesting - an articles section. People would write an article and post it for everyone else too see and use. Say for example you could post an article on using trigonometry or the making of Copper Oxide (Only an example). These would obviously have to be validated and made shure they are safe to post first by a member of staff but this could be a useful idea. Does anyone have any oppinions on this to share? Cheers, ryan Jones

I'm a bit dismayed as to how all the other sciences have detailed sections, but chemistry only has a single one and is listed under other sciences. My idea for a more detailed one would be like an entire heading under "Chemstry" that would have seperate forums like Biochemistry or Nuclear chemistry or such. Why can't it be like that? Anyway.. yeah, this was a bit random. >.>

When I enter SFN, I click on new posts then scan down for something of interest. Lets say there were 14 new posts today. I may go into one or two, then leave SFN. If I come back later, and click on new posts again, only 5 may show up in the list. It's happened more than once to me. How come? Why aren't the others still listed as new posts. Bettina

I added some new BB tags: Press "Quote" for this post to see how they work. Strike-out Inserted Text (hover) and Deleted Text (hover) for inserting/deleting during edits. This is an advantage in long threads that you might come back to and alter, because it gives people an idea when different changes occured (the "last edited on" text is not so great for that.) Denominator over-lines text; handy for quick equations at the start of the line, or for marking up modulus. [hide]This tag is for putting spoilers in threads about new films, books etc; or for posting the answer to a puzzle etc.[/hide]

In my bored internet wanderings I found myself at the Death to Creationism site ( http://www.deathtocreationism.com ) and I noticed the statement "DTC is a joint project between Sayonara.info and www.ScienceForums.net". I must confess, I am a little uncomfortable with this. I realise that it is not 'Death to Creationists' but I still think the title is too strong to be associated with a science site. Science makes no statement about creationism at all. While I am not a creationist, and I disagree with the creationist philosophy, it is up to them to believe what they want to believe, and, as a scientist, I don't feel it is my place to argue with them. (I can argue with…
