I thought that some of the people who believe all web sites should strictly follow the web standards would be interested to see these links: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.scienceforums.net http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.spreadfirefox.com http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.microsoft.com http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.msn.com

I have many mp3 format songs which show up in WMP, and when I go to the properties of the songs, it says the song is in \program files\ares\shared. However, I uninstalled Ares long ago and no such path exists. Even a search for the files reveals nothing, but WMP still plays the song. I would like to find these songs and put them into a new directory. What can I do?

One of my computers have been infected with a virus or worm that got past Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, and ZoneAlarm Pro. In fact, the virus has disabled my ZoneAlarm Pro firewall, and I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. The virus automatically downloaded itself into my computer from a web site. It only took a few seconds to download, so I didn't have time to press the Cancel button. While it was downloading, I saw the following window: Then a file named 0.exe was on my hard drive. Before ZoneAlarm Pro was disabled, it warned me that 0.exe was trying to act like a server. It also warned me that 0.exe was attempting to send e-mail messages. …

I am trying to learn Java but I have one problem that I cannot resolve, I don't know how to compile it. I tried downloading Sun's Java Developer Kit but it didn't put anything in my start menu after installation. I have a program called JBuilderX enterprise but it needs registration. How can I just get with the bloody coding! Sorry, not trying to be rude I'm just very frustrated because I cannot continue learning Java if I cannot actually compile it. Thankyou.

Hi, I have Norton running on my (old) HP desktop and since a few days, I was unable to go online. Now I turned off the firewall from Norton and it works fine. But also I have some kind of user-problem. I am unable to start programs by double-clicking on the short-cuts: I can start the program by right-clicking on the short-cut and start it from there, but it is more tedious. Also some of my option (e.g. software) in the control panel are just not working anymore. I remember having this problem before (a long time ago). My virus-scanner doesn't show any problems. What is wrong and what can I do about it??

I was infected with a virus last night (avpe32.dll). AVG won't remove it. I've scanned with spysweeper (found it but wouldnt delete (as it's a trial version)), ewido, spybot, adaware, microsoft antispyware, and panda activescan. Ewido repeatedly pops up the Backdoor.Haxdoor.dw infection. I can't manually delete the file from c:\WINDOWS\system32, because it isn't showing up there. Im posting because someone else had a similar problem and you guys were able to help him. I've booted to safemode and used apropos.exe as well. I've posted an HJT log as well as the log file from aprospos.exe. --------------------- Log of AproposFix v1 ************ …

  9. I'm a patent researcher looking for examples, before 2002, of controlling a point-of-load (POL) regulator by use of a microprocessor. In this case, a serial bus is used to communicate between a power controller and a POL regulator. The power controller is actually performing calculations instead of merely enabling/disabling or monitoring. I' happy to clarify or answer any questions you may have. For additional info you can look at US patent 6,949,916; I believe what is discussed in this patent actually existed before 2002. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a problem that I cannot solve, consider this: (function(){ var a = window.alert; window.alert=function(q){ a("BigMoosie\n\n"+q); } })(); This code will add the word 'BigMoosie' to every single alert called. This is quite neat as the workaround has been enclosed within an empty function making the variable 'a' inaccessible to global functions. I wish to do a similar thing to a prototype function for example this will make the split function's first argument defualt to an empty string if it is not set: String.prototype.split2 = String.prototype.split; String.prototype.split = function(s, a){ if (!s) s="" return this.split2(s, a); } Howe…

my girlfriends computer has stopped working. it gets past the screen with the windows logo and the blue bars scrolling across the bottom and then it goes to a grey screen and stops. it will start in safe mode. i know it was working as recently as christmas, but thats about it. they have a large family, so they cant tell me who was the last one to use it, much less what the most recent changes might have been. they also dont have the faintest idea where their windows install disc is, so windows repair isnt really an option. chkdsk didnt come back with any problems. they do have antivirus on the computer, although i havent managed to start the thing in anything but safe…

  14. Yes, I know... burn the heretic... but I have valid reasons. I've downloaded Opera 8.51 (the one with no ads in it!) and it looks rather nice. The UI, while it took me a bit of tweaking to get it to look right, is rather nice, and it's fast. Very fast, especially when you take into account these benchmark tests. Also, it uses around half of the memory that Firefox does, which is a good improvement when I have a few programs running. The only thing I'm missing so far is adblocking capabilities. I know there's filter.ini, but that doesn't collapse the ads so there isn't a big white space. But I figure I'll do blike a favor and take a look at the google ads for a whi…

Okay, You probably think that I'm an idiot for asking this, but I have been sending a lot of emails out and not receiving replies via my hotmail account. Maybe I'm just highly unpopular , but I'm pretty paranoid about my hotmail account's well-being, since a lot of the emails I've sent out are very important and receiving replies, therefore, is very important to me. I've done a web search about hotmail problems, and this one caught my eye: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-5980987.html Anyone knows whether that problem's been fixed? Mind you, I do not know for sure whether my email recipients have even sent the replies-maybe they're just on Christmas holidays and ar…

... here's what im trying to do, there's a popular website called facebook, and its features for inviting members to join a group are quite bulky. I plan to make a script that automatically executes the following: http://utoronto.facebook.com/groupuser.php?gid=2954&invite=1&uid=(INSERT_USER_ID_HERE) where INSERT_USER_ID will be read from a list of numbers in another file. I also plan to to make another script that extracts user id's from a list of search queries. Any idea as to how to accomplish this?

Read: http://www.scivisum.co.uk/press-releases/200506_firefox_web_test_study.htm It says that one in ten web sites don't work with Firefox. I have tested my web sites with Firefox, and I found them all to be compatible. As a web site designer, I would like to know why some web sites don't work with non-Internet Explorer browsers. I have read that the main problem is that some web sites use code that only IE recognizes. What type of code is exclusive to IE? Why can't Firefox be programmed to read both IE code and the code that complies with the web standards?

I just received an e-mail, and I'm sure that it is a phishing scam because I don't use Bank of the West. The strange thing is that the e-mail talks about protecting yourself from these types of scams. The e-mail says: At the bottom, there is a link to http://61.95.74.220/.bankofthewest.com/OnlineBanking/index.htm but I never clicked on the link because I'm worried it might contain a Trojan or virus. Do you think this is a scam, or could it be real?
