I just created a new web browser. Please visit http://www.surftabs.com and let me know what you think. I think this browser will be very useful to some people, especially if you do many tasks at the same time.

Hi, I have recently purchased a PDA which does not support WMV video formats. I was wondering what suitable software would be able to convert these to either MPG or AVI files while keeping the file sizes similar. I obviously do not need something overblown like Adobe Premier, but something with a few customise options such as quality and resolution etc would be good. Does anybody know of any such free program? Thankyou very much! -Moosie

Recently, I checked my computer with a software and found that the speed of my ram is 233 which does not match with that given by Dell. I'm going to check it again, but this time with another software. I couldn't find it though, do you have any suggestion?

My thanks to everyone who helped me get figure out what to do with my current laptop. It can't quite handle windows, and you guys helped me pick a linux distro to use on it. Anyway, I need something that will run windows, or dual boot, so I can use it when I need it. We have a copy of Visual Sudio .net which I'd like to play around with. I also need itunes (no really good substitute on linux that I could find), and the ocasional thing that will only work on windows (eg. putting ipod linux and compressed video on my ipod nano using mv player - way easier for me on windows). Anyway, I was looking for suggestions for a laptop to buy. Originally I looked into ebay, b…

i was browsing around and came across this http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/can-you-trust.html it basically says that if microsoft and intel and all that start using this software/hardware then they will have full access and control over you PC. if they don't like a file on your PC then they can just delete it. if they don't like what your putting out on the internet then they can cut you off and tell other computers to not open files made on your PC. Wouldn't this be extremely illegal and an infringement of rights?

One of the more intriguing black hat ideas floating around the Internet these days is the idea of exploiting operating systems running on dual-core processors in such a way as to fool the user into thinking they're running a normal Windows session, when in fact they're actually only running in a simulated setting known as a "virtual machine". A "real" operating system would be running in the background, completely hidden from the user, providing resources to the "fake" operating system, and also monitoring everything the user does. (Hence the "blue pill" label, derived from The Matrix.) Along the way, of course, it would make note of all your usernames and passwords, c…

Hello, I have been looking into both 2.4Ghz mice and normal standard wireless mice. I am not really sure on what the advantages are for each one. I know that 2.4Ghz is more expensive than normal ? But what are the advantages ? Is it true that they work from a further distance than normal wireless mice ? Anyone got any advice ? Thanks !

Before Mr. Dewey, libraries were arranged pretty much according to the librarians whim, and, moving from one library to another, it would be hard to find books, because there was no standard. Although the internet, since there is only one of it (thank god ), is not in quite this situation, its still pretty messy, and it might be a good idea to come up for an organizational structure for it. I have no idea how it might be implemented, and we won't get it developed enough to actually submit it, but it might be fun to come up with one. My personal idea is to have the extensions .com, .net, etc, changed to something that shows more of its purpose, like .gov or .org. Thes…

My phone has an application which allows me to use a bluetooth keyboard to input data to it. The only thing is that i dont have a bluetooth keyboard, i have a normal keyboard and a usb bluetooth dongle. Does anyone know of any windows pc programs that allow me to use my pc keyboard with my bluetooth dongle to act just like a bluetooth keyboard. So I can pair my pc and phone together and whatever i type on my keyboard, will be processed by the computer and the output will be sent as a bluetooth signal which will then be recognized by the phone as input. This way i can do some programming using Python for nokia S60 without having to scroll through a list of common…

Hi guys I decided to put a better hold of my financial situation (not that it's a bad situation, it's just going to get different with my new student-status . I started surfing online in search for a simple program that can help me out in calculating incomes and outcomes and all that stuff, since I am clueless and quite an astronaut, and getting a hold of my money in real time should be very helpful. There are some very nice looking softwares out there, the nicest one I could find (with my budget limit.. I dont really want to pay too much on a helpful program) is Quicken. It seems quite good, and is cheap (22$ for the basic one). My question to you fellow gee…

is there a way that i could ditch apple quicktime, real player, and windows media player, and just have one media player that plays all audio/visual formats and can play streamed media? for XP? I have looked, but have not found -- winamp is the closest, but doesn't support all of the formats.

Hi. I just got a new computer, and, because I hate the trials and free offers and the crapola that windows loads into every computer, I uninstalled everything but the OS. I was wondering what you all would suggest for installing next. A list of essential software, preferably free ware, that I should install. I already have Firefox and Thunderbird, but not an ISP. No virus protection or anything like that, or media players. (I'm not accessing SFN on that computer, I'm using another one). Thanks! -anjruu

Hi. I recently acquired an older monitor for free. It was an upgrade for the one I was saving as I don't really want to dish out the money for a new monitor if I could scrap one. The monitor I took was going to be recycled, but they had all been in use previously. To test if it worked, I simply plugged it into a wall and turned it on. It showed the correct "no input detected" message with good colors and the whole nine yards, so I said that was good. I've been working on it (painting it actually, it's masked from the inside as I spray paint it to match my case-to-be), and I noticed today that the video connector cable is missing a few pins. It's got most of them, …

As opposed to my "trivial java questions" thread, I will post all my in the near future Java questions which I think concern more to my understanding of Java programming language and computer science rather than just facts. So, I think it's better to seperate them. This is the head start question: 1) public class Foo{ public int a; public Foo(){a = 3;} public void add(){a+=5;} } public class Bar extends Foo{ public int a; public Bar(){a = 8;} public vid add(){a+=5;} } why does this code: Foo foo = new Bar(); foo.add(); System.out.print(foo.a); show the result 3 instead of the expected 13? thanks
