Hello forum, I am required to write a practical report on a project I am undertaking, This project involves running computer programs in the background and using a benchmarking software to find a rating and how it is effected by multiple programs open. Also I will be measuring the FPS and electricity during the benchmarking. However I am required to write this up, and I am unsure how to write it up as it is required to be scientific, It needs to include how electricty effects these variables and also something to do with CPU, GPU and VPU. What websites do you recommend I check out to find this, or how do you think I should go about writing this up? Thank you i…

Hi im reading the Silberschatz book on OS concepts. I tried to do an exercise on memory management: physical address = 32 bit; physical address space is 4 times smaller than the logical address space; if a page is 2^22 byte, what is the number of the entries in the page table of a process? What is the number of frames? To solve this exercise i do this: physical address = number of frames + offset number of frames = physical address - offset = 32 - 22 = 10 now i know the number of frames that is 2^10. A frame has the same size of a page so the physical address space is 2^22 * 2^10 = 2^32 byte. The logical address space is 4 times bigger than the physical an…

I've been learning Java for almost a year now and I have gotten into Java 3D. Although I only have one problem, I cant find a single website or book that can teach me how to make something like a First Person Shooter (FPS). I've tried using a lot of sites and If anyone could give me a link or some information that could help me. Please do. I mainly want to know about how to work up to making an FPS and even somewhere to learn how to.

I've recently discovered an absolutely beautiful visualization plugin for certain media players, and since it seems not many people know about it I decided to start recording songs with the visualization and uploading them on YT. The media players in question are AIMP and Sonique and each one renders the visualizations a little differently, so some songs look better on one while others look better on the other. I've already spent an insane amount of time trying to find screen recorder software that would enable me to capture the entire screen with a smooth framerate and at least reasonable quality, and so far I've only found one that works, namely BB Flashback recorder. T…

If you program a software, can you limit how much freedom any plug-ins would have on the computer system? For example, let's say you programmed a book reader, an image editor, or a font creator, and it lets the user import any plug-ins for expanding its capabilities. Would you be able to limit the plug-in to a certain environment, like forbidding it access to the internet, critical system folders, or anything you think of? Can you sandbox it to affect only saved user files and only those within the install folder of your program (or a specified folder)? Basically, if your program is a trusted and dependable software, can you ensure the plug-ins will be as secure…

Folks! I am planning to start a project in Computer Security. Though I am interested I do not have prior knowledge in that area. My professor has asked me to do three basic steps before our next meeting. 1. Create your own Certificate Authority in Windows (I am using Windows Vista! Old machine, so ) 2. Try issuing certificates using your own CA 3. Try plugging it in a Browser Last three days I have been working on creating my own CA. I downloaded OpenSSL for windows and every time I work in my cmd promt I get some errors and I am still in the place where I started! Could any of you, who have prior experience in this field help me how to proceed??

The latest round of cyber invasions is really starting to shape up like a real life cyberpunk novel. If the original design of the internet was flawed, is this one of the reasons why protected systems can still be thwarted and manipulated? If the majority of the world used Unix-based systems, would we be much better off security-wise, or would the level of malware be just as equally advanced? I'm starting to see how perhaps some of these big corporation's hacked computers are not necessarily backroom computers running Windows 98 or the like. What will happen to make things more secure, when a full deck of security software and a router just isn't enough?

Hello forum, I'm trying to create a program that will securily delete a file, as you know, even if you delete a file (be it manually or through a program with the remove() function) the file always stays there until its deleted by something written over it. My question is, anyone has any idea of how could you securely delete a file? I have thought of for example first using <fstream> to overwrite the file (suppose a .txt file, change all whats written on it converted to 0's) and then finally using remove() Is this method secure enough? What could I use? Thanks for the help

I have a question when reading Concrete Mathematics. It's in Unit 2(SUMS) section 7(INFINITE SUMS).Authors have proved that ∑k>=0xk=1/(1-x) (0<=x<1), but they also say: We might also try setting x=-1 in the formula ∑k>=0xk=1/(1-x), since we've proved that this formula holds when 0<=x<1.(Maybe It's on Page 59) I don't know why they can set x=-1 and use the formula correctly. The formula is right when 0<=x<1, isn't it? (PS: My English is really poor. Please point out my mistakes. Thank you!)

Ok, i have serious problem regarding my computer. And that is that whenever i dont use my computer while its on for at least 35 minutes or even 20 minutes, it will crash. Let me be more clear here, i use my laptop for awhile and say i dont turn off m laptop and go down to eat, normally we would expect the laptop to just turn on its screensaver mode, or just temporary be on black screen and when you want to use it again, the laptop comes back on to show the login display. My laptop on the other hand just crashes, the BoD appears, and i am so confused. does anyone know what is going on here???

My program creates many instances of a structure I call a "program" to compare and evolve to create an optimal program for a specified task. It uses integer sequances as inputs and outputs, the goal is to create the simplest program that produces an integer sequance starting with the input sequance. For example: Input 2, 4, 6 Output 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 ... A program consists of a list of 8bit unsigned integer units. Running a program starts the program at the first unit reading it as an instruction. The instruction may take parameters, thease are the subseqent few units. After the instruction has finished then the program moves on to reading the next instruction, …

I simply want 1. a secure system which is hard to hack 2. and I want to surf the web anonymously I'm wondering can I achieve these goals with Windows 7, or would it be necessary to go over to Linux? I researched this and found out that there's more to it than I thought and it it's quite harder to have a tight system than I thought it would be. Are there any resources you'd recommend?
