Hello All, While researching how our brain evolved to dream for a book I wrote a few years ago (Neuropsychology of the Dreaming Brain), I learned much more about the nature of mind, consciousness, and unconsciousness than I could find in any one specific text. It amazes me how much we speculate about our mental nature and construct without a cogent perspective of brain evolution. To speculate about the nature of the mind or investigate the nature of brain function without the slightest understanding of how our brain evolved is like, in my opinion, constructing a building without considering its foundation. For example, what is the mind? We speculate the mind to be a …

Prompted by posts in a somewhat interesting thread ("Do you trust IQ tests?"), I'd like to pose the following: Can you put "Psychometric testing" that in the same boat as IQ tests? It is probably more important to know what you are good at than it is to know your IQ. The earlier in life a person learns their strengths and weaknesses the happier they can be. I think for those of us who want to understand a person's aptitude so we can play to that person's strengths the good ship "Psychometric testing" is still afloat. What are your thoughts?

Psychiatry has no future. Yes, it is clear: they don't have evidence for a biological cause for problems with the human mind. And they have been promising results for almost an age now... But come on people: think about it a bit more clearly. How can the physical be the source for itself? The human mind is more then a product of the biochemical processes in the brain. If you have a problem with your brain, you see a neurologist. If you have problems with your mind, you need an expert on that field: a psychotherapist. Psychiatrists are scammers, this can't be denied if you know the facts. The maximum psychiatry can offer us as humanity is supressing probl…

  6. I was watching a lecture on iTunes University and would like to know what field or "branch" in psychology is this? I typed it into Google and got no farther results. These lectures REALLY intrigued me and I would love more on this matter. *You will need to have iTunes for this to work* http://deimos3.apple...493.03684307152 Sorry like I said I could not find them online anywhere else. It is a lecture series from the Open University about space, time and consciousness. Like I said I was fascinated by these video lectures! (all are free). What field of psychology would this be? Any good material (books, videos) I should read? This is my first post …

Long ago, the APA considered homosexuality a mental illness. Many people throughout the past decades considered that idea silly, and it was thrown out as a mental illness. I thought it was silly when I learned about it. However, in my studies of psychology, biology, and neuroscience, I've considered that homosexuality may indeed be a mental illness in a sense... But take its possibility into consideration. Take it with seriousness. What does it mean to have a mental illness? Is it better defined as a mental abnormality? Well, I'd like to consider the sex drive in reference to its design. In its design, it can serve in the function of reproduction. As such, ho…

It is true that psychiatry has no future and it is time to end it. There is NO benefit is psychiatry whatsoever. The original poster has only touched on the issues here. I want you to listen very carefully here. Psychiatry is TERRORISM. They are linked with Al Qeada and are trying to take over the world with psychiatry. They will never succeed though because God will stop them. It is a clever and insidious plot and has been quite successful but will never work. They use the money they make to fund terrorism and they all have terrorist training. What isn't clear to some is that the psychiatrists and other mental health workers have the mental illnesses that the…

Hi guys, The other day I was enjoying a nice chat with my parents and we were reminiscing on stories and stuff from our pasts (me, my brothers and my parents) and the very interesting question of "how far back can you remember?" came into the conversation. I shared this memory with them in which I remember being outside by this "huge" pile of gravel by a construction site, playing with the stones and pebbles and with a particular song playing in the background. Immediately my dad said "No way, you can't remember that! You were only a year and a half old!!". Due to the particulars that I mentioned (the song, the gravel and the site), my dad remembers exactly when this …

Could you do a brain scan on a group of women who had children or wanted them in the future, then one of women who had chosen not to have children, and pinpoint something that the first group had and the second one didn't?
