Is this true? A person's metabolism can affect his or her blood alcohol concentration. I know that if you have more fat, you'll get higher BAC than person who is skinnier. But I don't know if metabolism plays a role in this. What do you guys think?

Many people have been advertising Fruta Vida as some type of magical fruit juice. Some people are selling it and saying stuff like, "It cures cancer", "It makes you live much longer", and "It makes you happier". The company that makes Fruta Vida has a web site: http://www.tryfrutavida.com I don't understand what makes it so special. It costs $39.95 per bottle! How can it be worth that price?

Hi i have some questions on this drug. I heard that ecstasy could cause the user to have love feelings. first of all what kind of love feelings? like the one between a man and woman? when the drug wears off, does the love feeling go away or what can we do to the person using the drug, to make the love feeling stay? Why does Ecstasy produce love feelings? Whats the science behind it? When the person taking ecstasy began to feel love, which other person will she love? Like for example, the first person that she sees after the drug takes effects, or the person that gave her the drug to produce the love feeling? help is appreciated thanks

A friend of mine lately told me that his mother had gotten an abortion when she was pregnant with him. Apparently what they thought was a successful abortion only removed his twin and that he was left unnoticed until too late. Is this possible or is he just looking for attention?

I agree, this is among the most ridiculously stupid posts ever, but my curiosity is getting the better of me. As it is the sickness season, I inevitably fell victim to a cold & fever. Funny thing was, I got it Friday, but my fever disappeared yesterday. I also had a dentist's appointment yesterday for plaque removal (those giant machines that the dentists use to remove all sorts of junk from your mouth, including a small drill, a scraping hook and a suction tube). As usual, lots of bleeding occured and everything. But I didn't mind it. However, something weird happened. That night, my fever for some inexplicable reason reappeared. Why is that? I've heard that …

Is there a good site on-line for the families who have someone suffering from an inoperable tumor? Our 6 year old granddaughter was diagnosed last week with one that is causing fluid pressure build up, so they immediately made a new hole to replace the one that was blocked by the tumor. She is out of immediate danger, but faces chemo and/or radiation treatment for the rest of her life. They give her 10-20 years depending on controlling the tumor. It appears to be a low grade, slow growing one, pending final lab results, so we are grateful for that. I don't have the actual name of the tumor yet, will get it when I can from our son.

I'm curious if anyone knows specifically how PrPsc causes cellular damage and death in Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease. I gather it has something to do with myelinated axons. What specifically is it about the misfolding and accumulation of PrP that causes cells to die? I realize this is a rather hypothetical area but I'll settle for the prevaling theory. Prion, this should be right up your alley.

Considering the recent proof of the relationship between dinosaurs and birds, would the extinction of dinosaurs was somehow linked to a possible bird flu disease that was wild spread in the pre-historic period? I have considered the following facts that may lead to the build of the above hypothesis: 1. The relationship between bird and dinosaurs that were linked directly or indirectly, which means DNAs that could have inherited genes that were capable to pass over any kind of pre-historic bird flu; 2. The sudden extinction of dinosaurs could may have caused by other possible factors, such as global warming or comet impact, however, the chance of having a comet…

Is it healthy to swallow your own burp? What if you swallow someone else's burp? Often while I eat I take a mouthful of water and while the water is in my mouth I burp. The gas enters the mouth from the throat and I assume the gas mixes with the water. If I open my mouth, would the gas escape through the water? Whenever this happens I never feel any bubbling sensation in the water nor do I feel any burp escaping, suggesting that the gas may be trapped underneath the water. I have no choice but to swallow the water with my burp trapped in this water. I could spit the water out but I often don't want to waste water or I don't have anywhere to spit it out.

  15. (I'm sorry if this develops into incoherent babbel by the time I've finished, as I have just taken a slew of drugs I know will nearly have me hallucinating by the end of this.) I've had what I now know to be strep throat since Wed, the 11th. In the morning, what felt like the flu came on in such a way that at 10:00 I was the best I had felt in days and by 10:30 I was naucious, weak, had a sore throat and headache. By 15:30 I was dizzy and had what I can only describe as mental tunnel vision. I left work early on that day and the following two, but did not see a doctor until Friday, the 13th. Luck, it seemed, was not with me, as the doctor diagnosed me with the …

Just some thoughts I was having today. Is there an easy known method of filtering alcohol out of blood? If so would it be difficult to create a device to you attatch to your arm which diverts blood into a filter to help you sober up quickly if the moment asks? I was also thinking that perhaps a similar device could inject oxygen into the circulatory system, perhaps for scuba divers who want to free their face up a little from the mask. Would it have to be attatched to several major arteries or could it simply be on the arm or leg?

  18. Hey... I was reading the health journal that I received in past (I got them couple months ago but didn't read them till today:D ) and faced on these three questions that were classroom type. First, "Exposure to PASSIVE smoke can cause the same kinds of health problems that smokers may experience." I wasn't techincally sure about "PASSIVE" but I don't think this is a proper word. Maybe the correct word will be "secondhand"? In the next page, there was a chart with the list of couple famous carcinogens which are supposed to cause cancers. But one description does not sound right. "CARCINOGENS in cigaratte smoke pass into the blood and combine with hemoglobin, preventing…

I heard that this guy from my class, he told me that back in the 60's or 70's people put cocaine in coca cola to get high and drink coca cola at the same time. Thats why the original name for coca cola is from cocaine, and you get cocaine from a coca plant. Or the street name "coke". Is this true?

Each member of our household flushes the toilet after defecation because the sight of a toilet bowl filled with feces is disgusting. However, because of the drought here my parents have suggested to me that I should not flush the toilet after I urinate because that would waste too much water. They suggest letting the toilet water get more and more concentrated with urine before flushing it. This saves money as well as the environment. But what I wonder is whether an unflushed toilet is a health hazard. How concentrated should the toilet water be before we flush it to avoid any health problems or is it better to just flush after each urination? I would like to convince…

I drink on average 1.6 cups (400 milliliters) of Coca-Cola per day. Is this too much? What is a safe rate of Coca-Cola consumption? Here is my basic knowledge of biology. Too much sugar in the bloodstream I don't think is that harmful, as there are many different types of sugars. However, the type of sugars in Coke are processed simple sugars (monosaccharides). How is this harmful as opposed to sugar from, say, fruits? Can too much sugar lead to diabetes or is diabetes influence more by genes?

  24. I was just wondering how are medicines/chemicals realised in the floral kingdom. How would researchers know that a particular floral species might/will have medicinal use? The discussion might just lead to the history of how man used the natural environment to treat various diseased states. I do know that modern pharmacy comprises synthesizing and compounding chemicals for therapeutic purposes on a large scale. However, what are the processes that lead to that production? Additionally, are all of modern medicine derived from the floral kingdom?
