Howdy all, first post here. An unusual project brings me here, I'm planning to build a vibrating post driver for installing fence posts around my farm. They are availible commercially but they are outside the budget we have and we need to get the fence built. I'm good with my hands and a welder but the physics part not so much. What I need help with is the rotor design, or offset weight that is spun by a hydraulic motor to create the harmonics. The motor speed will be adjustable up to 3,000 rpm. None of the commercial products actually have ratings of force and if they did I'm sure that they all would be measured in a different way so that a comparison would b…

Hi, My name is Claudio Bianco. I am an inventor, and have just completed my last work called "Continual Wind-Up", with which I take advantage of water oscillations to wind up a cord, and thus generate electricity. I believe to have opened a new research field for renewable energy, but since I am the father of this invention, my opinion does not matter. I chose to use internet to make the invention known and I would appreciate your opinion.I would therefore like to invite you to discover a new way of generating electricity without polluting on http://www.cuerdacontinua.com

How feasible would it be to make an aircraft that had no undercarriage? For landing and takeoff it would make use of an undercarriage assembly that ran along the runway independent of any permanent connection to the aircraft. When the plane took off the undercarriage would be left behind ready for the next plane to land and make use of it. The undercarriage would then take the plane to the gate for passengers to disembark etc. It would save quite a bit of weight in an aircraft.

Well, I’d provide a picture, but I suck at drawing, so the theoritics will have to do. Its an extremely basic idea, but I haven’t been able to find anything of the nature online. I’ve always had an obsessive interest in exoskeletons. I suppose it comes from Metal Gear solid, as it was the game that introduced me to the idea. I suppose its rather childish, but meh. An interest that spurs a hobby that takes up idle time can be a good thing, even if it isn’t practical. Anyhow, I finally got around to thinking about basic ways to enhance human movements. To begin with, I didn’t want to start using outside forces, as that would require knowledge beyond what I current…

Hi all, I was just wondering if using a dynamo on a bike wheel, for example, would make it more difficult for the biker to move a certain distance. Basically my thoughts are that you are using chemical energy in your body, converting that into mechanical energy to make the bike move, and then the dynamo is converting some of that mechanical energy into electrical energy. So would that mean that the biker has to do more work to move the same amount of distance with a dynamo attached as opposed to without one? Thanks, LF

Now before I get reported for this just hear me out. If you are left or right handed you probably without thought use that hand for a majority of your daily activities, this would include the various bathrooms functions such as this. I would suggest that such on the toilet would cause a shift in weight which would imply more use or wear on a certain part of the toilet then the toilet in total. This and the fact we already design a great deal of modern technology to suit being left or right handed, so why not a toilet?

Imagine if you were to build an indestructible ring around the earth, say out of metal or carbon steel or whatever, and put it in orbit so that it circled the planet completely. I was just wondering how gravity, the rotation, the moon, etc. would effect the ring...would it be stable?

Hi. Scientists are not fully sure; they have good suspicions the warming is caused by us. Very probable. What would be wrong with a lunatic idea of massively attempting to cover with cheap mylar mirror film the sunniest unused areas of the planet? Even roofs? Would that reflect a ~95% of their incident solar heat back to space? Tiny area in the global context, but... is there another action in plan? I have no clue on how calculations would have to be conducted to come up with a mirrored acreage to at least counteract the situation to get worse. Would you replace your car with a bicycle forever? Or just spend more energy in airconditioning your home ? …

Hi, It seems that new LED technologies will be past by laser technology in the display market. They even claim the end of plasma TV's. (due to better quality with lower production cost) news: http://www.theage.com.au/news/NATIONAL/Laser-TV-predicted-to-be-death-of-plasma/2006/10/10/1160246121576.html lasers: http://www.novalux.com/ Making a big investment in a new plasma screen could be a bad idea now. They claim to have a first commercial model end 2007.
