Hi, I have been tossing some crazy idea around It came to me when I was using an acetylene torch. You open the gas and you light it, this will give you a flame that will not even put a cup of water to boil. Now you open the oxygen and you have a flame that will melt metal. So here is my idea, but first I want to make sure that you understand that I do not want to increase the power output of any engine 50HP engine should still produce 50HP but with a lower gasoline consumption. You already guessed that I want to put (some) oxygen in the mix. At start up this oxygen is produced by electrolyses (energy taken from the battery) The oxygen is then fed back …

I am facing the following interesting problem. A closed room\hall contains several identical machines in it they are fed by an electrical cable. The machines can be turned on or off. When a machine is turned on, it consumes electrical energy and as a byproduct generates heat. The heat is conducted and radiated through the room walls to the outside air. At present there are 2 machines in the room, but the designers consider placing more machines in the room. As more machines are added and become operational the structure outside temperature increases. The concern is that the outside surface area of the structure will become too hot. The outside skin is not convention…

How would you account for soundwithout visible eminence such as people talking other then a form of insanityor schizophrenia? I mean as far as asound illusion. I speak of voices and sound effects seeming tocome from nowhere that are emanated as if by complicated mobile sound equipmentfrom unseen location. I want to know possible ways this can be achievedto pull a prank on someone like something out of Scooby-Doo.

So maybe I'm just a wild dreamer but I have a theory that has been rolling around in my head and I thought I would throw it out there for someone to critic. My theory is on carbon nanotubes and the production methods to date. I have read many articles online and have come up with what I believe would be an interesting experiment. When I think of carbon nanotubes I think of cotton candy. Its light flexible and comes apart in almost lighter than air strings. So if this thinking is correct why are the carbon nanotubes not being produced with a similar method? Inert hydrocarbon gases pumped into a super heated spinning perforated centrifuge with a collecting sub straight arou…

  8. There are many places in the world where some fixed connection is being considered between two land sides divided by an ocean or sea. Projects under consideration are for example: * bering street (alaska-russia) * gibraltar (marocco-spain) Engineering faces challenges there. But in all those cases they opt either for a fixed standing bridge (on pillars) or a tunnel, or combination of them. Why could (in theory) a bridge not be built on floating structures attached to the sea floor with on top of it a kind of bridge design. The railways or roads then would go through a tube which would have some flexibility and attached to the top structure using dampers, …

  9. Hi. Does anyone know what is a distance the compressive stress propagate in a horizontal isotropic plate whilst a plate is loaded horizontally. The compressive load is applied to the right edge of a plate by a cylindrical indenter. The left plate's edge is fixed. Laws, formulas, principles .. Thanks in advance.

  13. Does anyone know whether the common claim that, had the Titanic have simply put the engines in full reverse and then hit the iceberg head on, that it either wouldn't have sank at all or else would have taken much longer to sink? At first glance, this seems like a fairly likely conclusion, considering that the iceberg essentially sliced open the entire side of the ship's hull, and I can't help but wonder whether it could have simply plowed right through that iceberg if it was going fast enough. But on the other hand, the kinetic energy behind the ship when it struck head on would likely have been gargantuan, so might this have in fact made the situation even worse rather t…

Dear Forum, I need a simulation program that could be used to optimize the free air flux distribution of a pulse coil (capacitive discharge). I would like to change parameters and see a plot of flux lines around the coil, and be able to determine Gauss levels at different points. Does anyone know of anything that will do this? Thank you very much! Sincerely, Mike B)

For some reason I've been pondering the idea of building a real life iron man suit. Obviously to build such a suit would require a lot of power. The mega powered lasers weapons and ion thrusters would require anti matter for power which is entirely impractical so we will have to drop those. I was thinking a 1kW hydrogen fuel cell with tanks of hydrogen compressed to 700 bar(Not sure if those tanks will work) should be enough power. To animate the exoskeleton I was thinking air muscles with 3 times the lifting power of a human's muscles would be a reasonably achievable feat but I'm not sure how much psi would be required or what materials to use for the air muscles. Th…

I'm using a current transformer (LEM APR 50 BIO) to measure current at inlet of machine. The transformer outputs voltage. I'm using a MYDAQ with LABview to read in and record data. I was just looking for advice on the setup? I've never used a MyDAQ or LABview before. Do I need a resistor, or how do I find the current? Thanks

Does anyone work with or understand PAM fluorometry for the purposes of assessing ETR rate in microalgae? We have a Phyto-PAM, but not sure how to operate - everything is set up, but how to use the software to get the correct results is a bit shaky. I think if I understood what results I am supposed to be getting, then I will be able to play around with the settings - but I am completely new to this. And no one else at work seems to be able to help me either... I've attached the manual of the PAM we use. Thank you! phyto_4e.pdf
