if the europeans hadn't moved all over the world and started a regular genetic trade between different regions all over the world, how long would it have taken for homo sapiens to split into 2 or more species?

Yesterday evening, just at dusk, I was sitting on the front deck with my wife, when appeared before us, was what we at first took as a hummungbird. I thought it look a little strange, because the wingbeat was not as fast as that of a hummingbird and it didn't make any audible sound. When it hovered over one of the flowers, we got a good close look, as it was no more than 4 ft. away. The photo is from a web site that identifies it as the hornworm morphed into a moth. In all my considerable years, I have never seen such a thing. Are they that rare to Southern Michigan?

I just finished this book that my Grandpappy gave me called The Naked Ape, which was written by Desmond Morris. Holy moly! I am fiending like a drug addict for an updated book of this sort, since it was written in the 60s. Does anyone know of a good book of this sort that you could recommend? By the way, if you have not read this book yet, please do. It made me a much more content person about who I am and why I feel certain things. I was not sure where to post this, and since it delt with human evolution in many respects, I started the thread here. Sorry if I chose the wrong forum.

I am currently involved in creating a role playing game. The game is set in the future. The basics are as follows… I meteor hits the earth little survives. It brings with it the materials needed to once again spurt the evolutionary process. Man does survive but depending on how, evolves into 4 different species. I need the scientific name for these species. I have tried to do this myself but I am trying to make the game as “scientifically correct” as possible. I do not want to be wrong. Here are the English meanings for the names I need. Rocky Skin Man Underworld Forest man The Surviving Wise Man (closest to us) The Little Stealing Man Any help would be nic…

I was watching a show the other day which stated that the poles might reverse one day soon. Well.. as most of us know, certain migratory birds, even messenger pigeons use the magnetic field as a compass. So if the poles reverse, does that mean many birds will migrate "north" instead of "south" due to the pole shift? What will happen to them? Would this pole shift possibly cause a mass extinction for many species?

Abstract Ever since the first dinosaur reconstructions in the mid-1800's, dinosaurs have been big business. They have been used to sell everything from breakfast cereal to gasoline. And now interest is greater than ever. A new craze for dinosaurs and related merchandise is sweeping America and other western nations. Dinosaurs are the newest fad. Will they lead children away from our Creator? Or to Him? Ever since the first dinosaur reconstructions in the mid-1800's, dinosaurs have been big business. How did the Venus Fly Trap evolve? There seem to me to be some organisms which have features that are difficult to come by through evolution, and the Venus Fly Trap seems particularly difficult to explain. To catch a fly, it needs to have 3 properties: 1. Attract the fly. This is presumably quite easy. All it needs to do is be a rotten flesh colour (and perhaps smell - do VFT's smell?) and flys will come. However this property has to be developed in conjunction with the other properties, otherwise there is no advantage to the plant in attracting flies. This is the same problem that flowers face in attracting bees (ie there has to be something for the bees to do). …

  14. this week the BBC reported a controversial IQ gender study to be published in the British Journal of Psychology http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4183166.stm I do not take any position as to the truth, falsity, or significance of the results reported, which indicate a difference in statistical IQ spread that is related to gender----a difference in the statistical distribution the comments on this BBC article are themselves interesting: it could be, as one person commented, that there are more men who are exceptionally stupid (as well as exceptionally intelligent as measured by the test used) so that on average it all balances out. (my personal view on that…

alright i have been reading alot about how the first living organism ( aka single celle) was created. I have been looking at alot of sites but i still have a few questions which i would be happy if you guys could solve. Link Number 1- http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Lab/2948/orgel.html This talks about how RNA needed to be present before Amino acids and protein in order for there to be the creation of the first cell. It also talks about how they tried to create the amino acids, protein and RNA in the lab. The one problem they had is they couldn't create RNA without the help of protein synthesis yet they said that they thought RNA had to come before pro…

  23. When people ask could there be life on mars or pluto or mercury.... the answer is always "no it would be too hot or too cold for the organisms to survive" What if the organisims evolved to withstand that environmental pressures? Why would they have to be like us here on Earth? Also another question: Why when people are thinking about 'aliens' or life on other universes.. why would they always be thought to be more superior than us?
