What variables might cause a human clone to differ from the person who donated the genetic material? Cell division or is it more involved than that?

I was researching rRNA and tRNA when I stumbled an other kind of RNA: snRNA. It appears snRNA's have a role in maintaining telomeres, the terminal repeats at the ends of our chromosomes. Can anyone tell me more about snRNA. I am doing a research project on telomeres and knowing the presice function of snRNA would be good. Obviously I am searching on my own, but if anyone has knowledge I would appreicate knowing it. link: http://www.biochem.uwo.ca/meds/medna/snRNA.html

I was thinking of a way to invade enemy countries, that would allow rapid conquering, and assimilation of enemy populations. I was thinking of combining a sleeping nerve agent, with a nerve agent that's addictive, so that people would be knocked out by it, then once they woke up, they would be complete slaves to whomever could provide the drugs. I was also thinking of combining with a compound that would slightly lower the body temperature. This way when you invaded, you could easily tell whose had the effect of the agent and who hasn't. Those who haven't have a slightly higher body temperature, which means they were probably part of the military, and should be sho…

Hello, I am trying to find a complete definition of the melanine production process in reptiles and amphibians. Does a such thing exist? All I've found was very incomplete and rather limited to tyrosinase and dopa. Thank you, Jean

I've been noticing Acesulfame K used in more foods and drinks. I have been wondering about this because I have been taking it in with consumption of goods. Now my questions is: is this a sugar alcohol? According to the Atkin's Nutrional Approach, you are not suppose to take in large amounts of things such as aspartame or sugar and that it is ok to take in limited amounts of sugar alcohols. So, I question if this Acesulfame K has an effect on blood sugar making the body slow down the metabolic acceleration process while going on Atkin's. I can't find much information on the web about it's sugar alcohol simile

In DNA fingerprinting, DNA fragments cut by endonucleases are placed in small depressions (our teacher calls them wells) in an AGAROSE GEL. I heard that agarose is made of seaweed. Why is agarose used instead of other materials? Does it have any special properties? I can't really find them in books. Hope you have the answer.

hi guys! i am doing the chromatography. in scaling up i have to increase my volumetric flow rate but maintain my linear flow rate. my problem is i don't know how to calculate the column cross sectional area (cm2). i have asked the people in the math forum, but it seems like we get nowhere, so i hope you guys who work with this area can tell me how i can calculate it when the radius of the column is 2cm and the height is 5cm. Linear flow rate (cm/hr) = volumetric flow rate (cm3/hr) / column cross-sectional area (cm2) thanks a bunch!

I'll be doing some research soon, and I'm in need of a REALLY good book that covers Biochemical and Molecular Biology techniqeus practices and interpretation of data. I've look around online a bit and am having lots of trouble deciding or finding lots of books that contain almost what I need but not enough. So anyone have any recomendations of a good one? I'd really like an oppinion before I decided to spend anymore money on books.

Alright, so here's the deal. I'm broke and and I'm trying to find ways to save money. Tuna in a can has an amazing amount of protein in it compared to other meat products and you don't even have to cook it. However, there is the mercury problem with eating tuna on a constant basis. From what I remember, it's advised that you eat about 4 cans a week at most. I think that is for women who are pregnant, children, and the elderly though. I want to eat a can twice a day for three months. I mean seriously, is there that much mercury that is going to screw with my body? I'm 5'10 200 lbs or so. 18 years of age. I weightlift and am pretty strong. I'm…

Would it be possible to command the the human body to have a certain part of the body regenerated? I've been wondering about this for quite some time. I wonder if there is some type of programming within cells that could be altered or perhaps a configuration within other parts of the body that could be altered to command cells to recreate or remake another body part. Let's say the eye for instance. The eye get damaged and you become blind in it. Is there a way to command cells to regenerate tissue and muscles?

Hello, I would like to know if you have experience with Salmonella detection kit (for real time PCR) from Roche (Lightcycler foodproof Salmonella detection kit) or Bio-rad (iQ-Check Salmonella kit). I have read that this second kit has been approved by AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation). However, I could not find more information about validation of this method on food and feed matrixes.

Has anyone here had any experience with PyMOL. I came across it a while ago but have just been fiddling with it again tonight. It's very nice, powerful and produces beautiful pictures of proteins and other molecules. http://pymol.sourceforge.net/ Example of what it can do: Here's one I rendered of human haemoglobin (i'm not quite skilled enough to display the binding sites in nice fancy diffferent colours and styles):

Hey, please excuse any naivety that follows. I was wondering if anyone here had much familiarity with protein structure determination or anything else relating to protein structure and function. I'm really interested in the 3D structures of proteins and would be interested in possibly persuing this as a PhD but I'm not sure which areas of research there really are available. I'm most interested in things like structure based drug design (among other related things such as understanding enzyme mechanisms by investigating their 3D structure) and generally using knowledge of protein structures to understand how things work. I am bit worried that to do this I would have t…
