It is good that solar and wind power are being installed at record rates, to help offset this loss of power.

If I am not mistaken, there was a new hypothesis made by a university in the USA regarding the new calculation about the speed of light. This hypothesis explains why the light from SN 1987 A delays for 4.7 hours upon arriving on Earth. The neutrino should come first in 3 hours time then followed by light beam. But the light beam took 7.7 hours upon reaching Earth. So, maybe Einstein was wrong.

First I've heard of this idea for dark matter and energy. It sounds promising.

England's hypothesis now needs to be tested. If it is valid, then life should be common in the Universe. However, IMO it says very little about the probability of technological cultures occurring.

***ADVISORY: these rock breaking propellants are not the same as what you put in model rockets or otherwise. You must not try this at home**** This post is about some potentially high impact technologies under development, which have lead to some really interesting scientific advances along the way. There is little peer review work I can offer, due to this being truly industry and market driven R&D. However, there is plenty of video evidence from around the world and I have made a playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXlGYIt2uJKP4XoLQ1GWlrZJLm4w9_yxx The 2nd and 3rd of these intriguing articles we were involved with, but the rest are comple…

They are looking for funding to start a company. Their video is interesting. Someone draws 3D shapes free hand instead of the drawing head being computer controlled. If they aren't too expensive, I'd like to play with one, but really do not have the artistic skill to afford one if they are expensive. Kids would go crazy with one, except the tip might burn them.

Saturday a chatbot named Eugene Goostman(13 year old boy) has passed the turing test, I have yet to find a working link or chat log, I have chatted to a few chatbots over time, Some have great moments of clarity, In those moments i am sure a couple of these would have also passed. I will hold my judgement until I have had a chance to chat. http://robotenomics.com/2014/06/08/turing-test-pass-claimed-at-university-of-reading-event/

Dear Scientists, The Journal of Young Scientists in Biology is a new peer-reviewed journal dedicated to Post-doctoral fellows, PhD- and M.Sc students' publications. The goal is to allow young researchers worldwide to write articles on their own or in collaboration with other young scientists. I encourage scientists to submit an article (original or review) in this new online journal (no publication fees). First issue will be publicated in the course of autumn, 2014. For more information, you can visit our website (in construction) : www.ysbiology.sitew.org Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any request. Thank you for your participation. We've known since 2005 that Einstein-Rosen Bridges (also known as 'Wormholes') can generate a Casimir effect. In a new paper, it has been shown that if the throat of a wormhole is sufficiently longer than its mouth is wide, then the Casimir effect is strong enough to keep the bridge open without the need of exotic matter. This means that the real hurdle in engineering traversable wormholes is just making one in the first place. The extreme energy requirement has, just as with warp drives, just been reduced by orders of magnitude. The new paper, again, can be read on arxiv.

Compared to the 14,000,000 MT petroleum used per day, this production is small. But, it is significant, especially if it competes well enough to displace some petroleum in the market. I hope they are exceptionally successful.

By using interference patterns Steve Perlman demonstrates that his new company Artemis can create many small cell reception areas called pcells that use the entire bandwidth of the available spectrum for many receivers and the same time. If you dont have time for a 56 minute lecture here are the shorter videos But there is not much text on the website and have not found any comprehensive 3rd party articles, so the 56min lecture seems to be the most informative source on the net I have found so far. So this seems to have implications beyond high bandwidth wifi. If these pcells are only 1cm wide that means in those demonstrations they must be tra…

From: http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/09/health/artificial-dna-life/index.html?hpt=hp_c4 The paper was published in Nature just this past week. http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nature13314.html It's interesting that they were able to add completely synthetic genteic information and get that information to pass stably from one generation to the next via reproduction of the organism. I'm more excited about the posibilities this opens up for expanding our definition of what counts as life, especially in terms of space exploration.

If we have not heard from ET because AI is a threat to biological life forms, then why have we not heard from AI Moreover, why is it that an alien AI has not invaded Earth and destroyed us? I realize that a super AI would have the capability to destroy us, but it seems as likely we would threaten them as animals threaten us. Once a nuclear powered replicator gets into space, it should be able to find all the resources it needs to survive, thrive, and be safe. Thus, what reason would they have to destroy us?
