If looking at the body weight:brain weight ratio, the hippopotamus is not looking too smart while talking about the intelligence of mammals.

I don't know what the least intelligent species is - but I think one of them just opened a new thread in Speculations which over-throws Einstein and nearly gets me crackpot bingo!

I don't think that social insects should be included in the list. Social insects such as bees and ants exhibit a collective intelligence as an emergent property of the entire nest.

The problem here is that the emergent quality of the hive intelligence is often dependant on stigmergy.
