The Official "Introduce Yourself" Thread

Featured Replies

Hello,

I would like to introduce myself and ask where I would best fit on the website.  My areas of interest are specifically acoustics/music, as well as general engineering.

(The reason for General as opposed to the traditional Mechanical vs Civil vs Electrical vs Etc. is that I think specializing is overspecializing; I don't need to be an expert in every field, I just don't want to be dumb enough to be, say, a chemical engineer that can't figure out the reason their "wonder fluid" cannot possibly exist is because its viscosity would essentially make it a solid, resulting in some sort of mechanical force being exerted within the production machine, causing it to break itself; or to be a civil engineer that designed a building where the construction equipment physically cannot move the pieces necessary into position because they would all interfere with themselves; or etc.)

P.S. - I don't know which part of the website is best for introductions, so I figured I'd stick this in the Engineering section.

Good day.

Good morning, David.

You are very welcome if you have anything useful to discuss or can add anything useful to any existing discussion.

It is discussions that are classified in sections, not members; members can access all sections.

There are several engineers, and retired engineers here.

The official introduce yourself thread is here:

Perhaps a moderator would be kind enough to move it there.

Hey guys! This is Hal1776! I've recently decided to abandon social media in favor of forums and email, and would like to formally introduce myself.

I'm 30 years old from Tennessee, and a huge science nerd. I love astronomy, paleontology, evolutionary biology, and astrophysics. I also like 90s and 2000s shows, with Daria, DBZ, and Avatar the last airbender being among my favorite shows. I like playing Halo, call of duty, zelda and mario.

It's nice to meet everyone here! I'm here because I'm interested in the aforementioned science fields and would like to discuss them,

Hey I’m Sohan

I never introduced myself here when I was new so here I am.

I want to debate for either to reach a conclusion or for the sake of discussion.

Hello, I go by the name King Phenomenon, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you. Science is a fascinating subject, and I’m always open to learning more.

I look forward to challenging your beliefs.

Hi all,

Nice to meet you.

Education in Biology (1980s) but career since has been applications as a technologist, mainly chemistry with some physics thrown in.

Interests now are physics, the big stuff, LCH, Hubble, JWST, whilst trying my best with the mathematics.

Other science interests are human Evolution and Abiogenesis.

Biblical scholarship, music and other tidbits perhaps but let's see what threads grab me!

Cheers.

Same here. (And my ugrad degree was also in biology, with a pre-med focus that later shifted towards ecology)

We've had some long and contentious and sometimes kooky threads on abiogenesis, like this one (you'll see some familiar faces there):

https://scienceforums.net/topic/135419-gap-between-life-and-non-life-split-from-what-if-god/page/7/

Some grapple with philosophy of science concepts relating to abiogenesis, like this one I recall...

https://scienceforums.net/topic/135173-addressing-the-theistic-argument-of-statistical-impossibility-of-life/#comment-1281444

And then some threads which are more speculative...

I will check those out thanks!

Astronomy, paleontology and Evolution I am interested in. Cosmology too with what is going on with all the new generation telescopes like Webb, Euclid, Vera Rubin etc.

See you about!

Hello, I am Darksand,

I am like a Hobby Scientist, I just like to learn everything about science. And I am a ICT Engineer.

here i come, behbeh. does anyone remember cypress and is prepared to talk about it?

Hi All,

I just want to take a minute to introduce myself.

I am Joey. I am Dutch. I live in Thailand. And I am 55 years of age.

Ever since I was a kid I loved technology and science. The ADHD dictated I should explore this professionally with a suitcase. Mostly as a service provider to the oil industry. Lived in 5 countries, and visited well over 50.

I studied electronics at college. Worked during the day and studied in the evenings. This worked well for me. After having worked all day I finally had enough piece in my body to actually sit and listen to that guys. After this I broadened my knowledge by studying climate control design, statistical analysis, C++, and MCSE. After this I have started reading in a seemingly endless quest for more knowledge with a main focus on Physics, Astronomy, and mechanics.

When I post I write myself. When I state facts, I have checked them. That does not mean I never make a mistake. Show me where I am wrong so I can learn.

Pros:

  • Always willing to explore new ideas.

  • Always try to look at things from a different angle to see an other perspective.

  • I'm a straight shooter.

Cons:

  • I have in the past accused people of having the social skills of a pregnant monkey. Truth said; I'm a bit like that at times too.

  • I have a short fuse.

Hope to see you all around.

Oh, and one note. History has taught me that there are always a few people who get second thoughts when they see my name. I needed a new email address with a different name. My best friends name is Joey and my wife had just bought me MS Flight Simulator for x-mas with a joystick. The handle stuck and I still us it today. And that's all there is to that.

Joey

Hello ScienceForums Community! 👋

I’m Olivia, a pharmaceutical entrepreneur and medical device trader with a relentless curiosity for science and business. At 40, I’ve learned that the best ideas often come from collisions of knowledge—whether it’s chemistry, economics, or even travel stories over a great meal!

My Passions in a Nutshell:

  • 🔬 Science & Business: Bridging gaps between labs and markets (let’s talk innovation pipelines!).

  • 🌍 Travel: From Tokyo’s tech hubs to Mediterranean biotech conferences—always hunting insights (and local recipes!).

  • 🐕 Dogs: My stress relievers and unofficial R&D consultants (labradors > lab coats?).

  • 🍜 Food: Firm believer that "culinary science" is the tastiest research field.

Why I’m Here:
To learn from brilliant minds, debate open-ended ideas (the crazier, the better!), and maybe find fellow entrepreneurial scientists or travel geeks.

Question for You:
What’s the most unexpected connection you’ve found between science and another field? (Mine: A sushi chef once explained fermentation like a biochemist—mind blown!)*

Excited to meet you all! 🚀

Hola! FNG here. Decided to search for a good science forum and this seems to be what I'm looking for. Can't wait to meet each and every one of you.

As for me? I'm a 50-year old astronomer. Remember sitting in my backyard at night as a child looking up at the stars and knowing what I wanted to do in life.

Some other interests I have are science in general, history, films, music, writing, etc.

Thanks in advance for the warm welcomes and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and engaging in friendly discussion and debate.

And possibly a fan of "Jaws," going by your moniker? Welcome. Perhaps the next time we have someone hyperventilating over 31 Atlas, or some other interstellar interloper, you can talk them off their Alien Invasion ledge. I'm a life sciences guy, dabble in astronomy and cosmology a bit, as do several of us here, so having some expertise aboard couldn't do any harm. Which end of the telescope do you recommend looking through? 😀

I'm so new that I'm not even sure where this reply will go. But there was this comment that said I had to make two of something to not get kicked off, so maybe this will help. I'm a chemist that studies biology, so I'll be browsing for a while.

Hi, some have already met me. Im interested in science, technology, mechanics and engineering. As an artist and environmentalist (policy and geography based) these are not a fields I am directly involved in. Might come across as a stubborn and opinionated, but I am, open minded and a nice person. Hope to learn much and be a positive member.

Ps Not a Buddhist but I do love dragons.
