Who really killed our Ambassador to Libya?

Rigney's entire argument has been nonsensical from the start, no matter what happens he wins. If Romney had won he would have claimed it was just a matter of time until Romney reveled the truth and even if "the truth" was exactly what Obama said rigney would have claimed the truth was due to Romney, but now that Obama has won we will have to wait until another republican gets into office but of course if one doesn't then we will have to wait yet another four years... But the Benghazi massacre? The truth of that fiasco will have to wait another four years

And now we see the true danger of confirmation bias and conspiracy theories. When the investigation has been completed, even to the satisfaction of the entire Congress and all legal agencies, if the POTUS isn't found culpable rigney will always assume it was covered up.

I, for one, am totally disgusted that this obvious aggrandizement of the death of Chris Stevens was used by the Republicans as an election ploy against the president when it's so obviously a series of small mistakes that combined to allow a larger tragedy to happen. The mid-level decision not to increase security, the slow response of the secret CIA team charged with emergency security for the compound, the Pentagon's inadequately reconfigured quick-reaction force, Ambassador Stevens own decision to stay despite his misgivings, the failed February 17 brigade response, the Libyan government's basic security failures, all these things taken together opened the doors for this attack to happen.

But seeing as how embassy security is hardly a cabinet-level decision, I have to conclude that the Republican fingers pointing at the POTUS were doing so not only to diminish him in the eyes of the voters, but also to cover up their own culpability for budget cuts enacted by the Republican-led House that made beefing up security at the Benghazi Embassy impossible. Shifting blame away from themselves, historically, is a favored ploy of these dishonest, deceitful, untrustworthy and corrupt extremist conservative representatives of half the United States of America. I shudder to think how close we came to giving them more power yesterday.

There was a time when I leaned toward conservatism, fiscal conservatism, but to be conservative today means you have to swallow a butt load of horse feathers while eating your own brain. At some point I truly believe this polarity of parties will get out of hand. I am almost surprised i didn't hear gun shots outside this morning... Damn all those 12 gauge 000 buck shells wasted... well there's always next time... weird to be liberal and a gun nut...

They'll take my penis... er gun, out of my cold dead hands....

So will the republicans swing back to the left and encompass all the people disaffected by the perceived failure of a perceived socialist bent in America, or swerve to the right and consolidate a ring wing / tea party / religious fundamentalist platform?

and if my penis ... er gun is getting any action after I am dead - Good Luck to it!

This is part of the problem, imo, thinking that it's always good to be fiscally conservative, or always good to be socially liberal. We need a different paradigm to use in analyzing every issue and every legislative response to it. I recommend we adopt "smart". And hang the representatives who vote against smart just because it didn't come from their party.

Nixon got the southern states to switch parties by appealing to their fears of the civil rights movement. Maybe it's time for the Republicans to cast back to the Eisenhower days and be more progressive than the Democrats, using "smart" as their gauge instead of conservative. They might even get my vote if they start embracing the 21st century and vow to help America reassert itself in an increasingly scientific-minded global community. Truly, what they should do is flip the bird to the religious extremists and start working to fund American education around the globe. Investments in a smarter workforce will outlast any gains made from the arbitrage of cheap labor which will eventually run out.

More likely, IMO, we'll see creation of a third party... an actual Tea Party that is no longer just the rightward margin of the republican party.

I think even the tea baggers are smart enough to realize they can't make that batshit crazy stuff into an entire party. ( I love to call them tea baggers  ) The idea of religion mating with a political party was and is doomed from the start either they gain control and totally screw everything up or the masses realize that is what they are doing and they lose power, there is no third option...

Kinda like an elephino...

Isn't it fun to be on the winning side instead of the whining side?

"Smart" that's really giving them some leeway isn't it? I don't feel very magnanimous today, stupidity lost ground yesterday and I'm damn glad of it...

I feel like imatfaal, my good mood refuses to be dampened. I'm running on about 5 hours of sleep, 3 tall coffees and the elated knowledge that we won't have to watch DC dig out the eight-year hole we spent four years filling in. I feel like building something!

I to am elated, so many people seemed to suck up Romney's crap I was genuinely worried we would begin that downward spiral again. I shut off the network TV and my computer Early last night and spent the late hours watching Primevel, I was so relieved this morning but still puzzled by how many people could be so easily deceived by someone who was so obviously lying.

It does feel good, almost like the first warm spring day, but i wanted to hear some wailing and gnashing of republican teeth... kinda scary they are so so quiet about it...

A $1.00 bill will buy you a cheap cup of coffee today, but what kind of work are you not doing at the moment that you'll still not be doing four years from now? Edited by rigney

By no means was it meant to be a low blow friend. Truth is, I've worked my ass off for over sixty years to attain $100,000. as a retirement cushion and I don't want any government assholes telling me that I have to share that little part of my life with anyone. So, simply tell your confidants that: "shit happens, and that they will get over it"! Edited by rigney

Rigney, you have the weirdest point of view of anyone I know, who says anyone is gonna take anything from you? make you share ? You need to stop drinking the koolaide dude... you don't have enough money to be friends with the republicans...

So you really believed Romney when he said he wouldn't raise taxes on anyone, that he could pay for his plans with closing millionaire loopholes in the tax structure? Even after he admitted in September that he'd have to raise taxes on the middle class? That's your class, isn't it?

That's what I couldn't believe from my middle class Republican friends, they kept saying Obama would raise their taxes but Romney wouldn't. And that's not what either candidate said.

Well, I do lie just a little; when it's convenient.

Would Romney have raised taxes? Yes! I suppose he would have done so. But tell me, what are these next four years going to bring us? I only hope the elective majority of our nation was right and the other half of us were simply dreaming of something we thought might be better than what we've had these past four years. Rigney, were you conscious during the last Bush administration?

Let's get back to the original topic at hand Moon. Don't you find the odor of sanctiety just a bit strong in this latest story of General Petraeus's resigning because of his debaucherous infidelity? Face it moon, Bill Clinton was in the oval office right under the nose of our next Secratary of state having an affair, was inpeached but didn't feel it necessary to resign. And we're told that some nookie on a plane was the cause of this great general falling on his sword? I believe there's a 'Squatch in these woods Moon. Edited by rigney

What in the world does Petraeus's going "All In" with his embedded biographer have to do with this thread?

Rather than piling on ever more right wing nonsense that has nothing to do with the topic at hand, why don't you try, just once, to answer questions put forward to you?

Nonsense? You thank my inquiry into Petraeus's resignation has nothing to do with the topic? Get real! Do you consider Moons question a matter of consequence in understanding the Benghazi incident? And do you think it has anything to do with what happened in Libya? You figure out what either has to do with this thread.

This is the kind of fatuous, slanted, manipulative propaganja that FOX News worshippers love to get high on. It has no substance, no motivation and plays on vague doubts and fears held by poorly informed and dimly educated mob-mentalists. What it fails to actually say gets gleefully filled in by the masses who then fail to question why this situation is supposed to be anything more than what it looks like.
