Zeno's paradox solved?!

Thank you for the sharp and critical counterarguments. Let me address the core physical, operational, and epistemological points directly.

1. The Metric Illusion: Ounces vs. The International System (To @Anton Rize)

You argue that Universal Time (\(T_{U}\)) is redundant because observers can compute everything via ratios of local cycles.

Operating under the strict constraints of informational ontology, I launch the hypothesis that Local Time (\(T_{L}\)) is the physical equivalent of the 'ounce' or the 'mile' in the UK—a tolerated, localized unit of convenience

, whereas Universal Time (\(T_{U}\)) is the fundamental 'SI unit' of the cosmos.

When we count Cesium ticks in a lab, we are using an operational benchmark tailored to our macroscopic perspective (\(T_{L}\)). But what physically dictates the duration between two successive states in nature? I postulate that the absolute metric of reality is the Planck duration—the fundamental, indivisible duration required for the cosmic engine to execute a state change from frame \(n\) to frame \(n+1\).

We do not read \(T_{U}\) on a wristwatch, just as we do not see the master clock rate of a CPU on a computer monitor. However, \(T_{U}\) is not redundant; it is the vital hidden variable that enforces global causal consistency and sequences the updates of the discrete lattice to prevent computational race conditions.

2. On Demonstrating the Discrete Substrate (To @swansont)

You repeat the question of how I show this discrete nature, emphasizing that continuous math already yields quantized solutions.

I am not disputing the mathematical efficiency of continuous wave mechanics at the macro-scale. I am questioning its ontology. To demonstrate that the continuous smooth manifold is a mathematical artifact, I move past abstract equations and rely on the two empirical pathways I proposed earlier:

  • The Cosmological Test: High-energy photons from distant Gamma-Ray Bursts traversing billions of light-years must exhibit an accumulated micro-dispersion (Modified Dispersion Relations) due to the granular canvas of space.

  • The Quantum Computational Test: A thousands-logical-qubit quantum processor will hit an irreducible, anomalous background decoherence rate when its internal state density (\(2^{N}\)) collides with the holographic Bekenstein-Hawking information bound of its physical volume.

3. Physics vs. Ontology (To @studiot)

Selecting a secondary theological sub-definition of ontology from an old dictionary to label it 'mystical' is a semantic distraction. Ontology in physics is simply the study of the actual substrate of reality. When smooth mathematical continuums collapse into infinite probabilities at the Planck scale, investigating the frame-by-frame structural hardware layer is the next logical step in theoretical synthesis. Egos and dictionaries do not advance physics; falsifiable mechanisms do.

Do GRBs show this dispersion? What equation predicts the amount?

  • Author

@swansont, I appreciate you holding my feet to the fire. You want to see the equations and the hard limits. Based on what I assume to be true within this discrete framework, here are the explicit, falsifiable mechanisms and their mathematical boundaries:

1. The Cosmological GRB Test Equation

To predict the micro-dispersion of high-energy photons over cosmological distances, I utilize the Modified Dispersion Relation (MDR) formula for a discrete Planck lattice:

\(E^{2}=p^{2}c^{2}\left[1\pm \xi \left(\frac{E}{E_{\text{Planck}}}\right)\right]\)

Where \(E_{\text{Planck}} \approx 1.22 \times 10^{19} \text{ GeV}\) (the fundamental hardware energy floor) and \(\xi \) is a dimensionless parameter of order \(1\).

  • The Falsifiable Prediction: For two photons emitted simultaneously from a Gamma-Ray Burst at a cosmological distance \(L\), where one photon has low energy (\(E_{\text{low}}\)) and the other has ultra-high energy (\(E_{\text{high}}\)), the accumulated arrival time delay (\(\Delta t\)) due to pixel-to-pixel processing latency is predicted by:

\(\Delta t\approx \xi \frac{\Delta E}{E_{\text{Planck}}}\frac{L}{c}\)

Do current GRB observations show this? With quasi-certainty, we know that current datasets (from Fermi-LAT or LHAASO) constrain \(\xi \le 1\) for \(n=1\) linear violations, meaning space remains smooth up to near the Planck scale. My hypothesis is explicitly falsified if future ultra-high-energy GRB data pushes \(\xi \) significantly below \(1\), proving the continuum is smooth past the Planck threshold.

2. The Quantum Computational Saturation Limit

You ask what the exact limit is where a thousands-logical-qubit processor collides with the background matrix. It is governed strictly by the Holographic Bekenstein-Hawking Information Bound applied to the chip's geometry.

The maximum informational capacity (\(I_{\text{max}}\) in bits) that any physical volume can process is restricted by the surface boundary area \(A\) of that volume measured in Planck pixels:

\(I_{\text{max}}=\frac{A}{4\ell _{P}^{2}\ln 2}\)

Where \(\ell_P \approx 1.616 \times 10^{-35} \text{ meters}\).

  • The Falsifiable Prediction: A quantum computer with \(N\) error-corrected logical qubits handles \(2^{N}\) simultaneous quantum states. The total raw information encoded in the system's state space is \(N\) bits. Therefore, the absolute operational limit before the chip triggers background matrix saturation is reached when:

\(N>\frac{A}{4\ell _{P}^{2}\ln 2}\)

If a quantum processor surpasses this qubit-to-surface-area ratio and continues to maintain perfect quantum coherence without exhibiting an anomalous, irreducible background decoherence rate, my computational model is fundamentally falsified.

A Quick Logistical Note to Everyone:

I highly appreciate the depth and rigor of these technical counterarguments. However, due to real-world commitments and personal responsibilities over the next few days, I will be offline and unable to interact or respond to this thread for a short while.

I am leaving these explicit equations and falsifiable boundaries on the table for the community to analyze and stress-test in my absence. I look forward to parsing your feedback when I return. See you in a few days!

1. The Cosmological GRB Test Equation

To predict the micro-dispersion of high-energy photons over cosmological distances, I utilize the Modified Dispersion Relation (MDR) formula for a discrete Planck lattice:

E2=p2c2[1±ξ(EEPlanck)]

Where EPlanck≈1.22×1019 GeV (the fundamental hardware energy floor) and ξ is a dimensionless parameter of order 1.

  • The Falsifiable Prediction: For two photons emitted simultaneously from a Gamma-Ray Burst at a cosmological distance L, where one photon has low energy (Elow) and the other has ultra-high energy (Ehigh), the accumulated arrival time delay (Δt) due to pixel-to-pixel processing latency is predicted by:

Δt≈ξΔEEPlanckLc

Do current GRB observations show this? My hypothesis is explicitly falsified if future ultra-high-energy GRB data pushes ξ significantly below 1, proving the continuum is smooth past the Planck threshold.

What is meant by “hardware energy floor”?

What is n, which does not appear in your equation?

Who are we really having this discussion with ???

I will repeat; misapplying a model always leads to inconsistencies, especially when trying to explain processes that the model doesn't take into consideration.
Take for example Newtonian corpuscular theory of light, which fails with the process of diffraction.
Or Huygens wave theory which falls apart for the photoelectric effect.
Yet both were 'right' in their particular domain of applicability.

The appropriate model follows the observational evidence, and so we have quantum particles of light, not waves or classical corpuscles.
There are no observations of the Planck scale, nor any indicators of space-time discreteness ( correct me if I'm wrong and then this thread is valid ), so why try to force-fit observational reality into an incomplete/inappropriate model, and then be surprised when infinities and paradoxes appear ???

  • Author

@swansont, you are entirely correct to point out that \(n\) was not explicitly written as a variable in the simplified formula I posted. That is a fair notation critique.

Here is the exact technical clarification based on the standard framework of Quantum Gravity Phenomenology:

1. What is \(n\)?

In the general formula for Modified Dispersion Relations (MDR), \(n\) represents the order of the Planck-scale suppression. The complete generalized equation is written as:

\(E^{2}=p^{2}c^{2}\left[1\pm \xi \left(\frac{E}{E_{\text{Planck}}}\right)^{n}\right]\)

In my previous post, I specifically presented the case for \(n=1\) (the linear violation model), where the ratio \((E/E_{\text{Planck}})^1\) leaves the exponent implicit. For \(n=2\), the effect becomes quadratically suppressed, which is even harder to constrain empirically.

2. Definition of 'Hardware Energy Floor'

By 'hardware energy floor', I mean the physical reinterpretation of the Planck Energy (\(1.22 \times 10^{19} \text{ GeV}\)) within an informational cosmology.

In standard physics, this is the scale where smooth spacetime metrics collapse. In my discrete framework, I launch the hypothesis that this energy value represents the maximum possible energy capacity (or maximum frequency load) that a single spatial pixel can process within a single cosmic frame update. It is the absolute hardware ceiling for localized energy density at the network node level.

I am officially offline as promised, but I wanted to ensure this mathematical omission was corrected immediately for the thread's rigor. See you in a few days!

@MigL, you are having this discussion with a thinker who uses modern digital tools to format syntax, just as an astrophysicist uses a digital signal processor to clean up data from a radio telescope. The machine didn’t construct this relational model—I did. Let’s drop the formatting paranoia and focus on the physics.

Your historical examples of Newton and Huygens actually support my thesis, not yours. Both models failed precisely because they attempted to extrapolate a macroscopic approximation into a domain where the underlying physical substrate had different rules.

You claim that because we have no direct observations of the Planck scale, forcing a discrete model is inappropriate. I counter that clinging to a continuous smooth manifold at \(10^{-35}\) meters—where general relativity yields infinite densities and quantum field theory predicts infinite vacuum energy—is the ultimate case of force-fitting an inappropriate model.

The mathematical infinities and paradoxes (like Zeno’s or the singularities of general relativity) are not features of nature; they are the exact structural warning signs that our continuous map has run out of resolution.

I do not claim the discrete model is proven. I claim that transitioning to a framework of Modified Dispersion Relations (\(MDR\)) and treating atomic frequencies as clock dividers is a legitimate, falsifiable alternative to the breakdown of the continuum.

Now, as stated, my real-world commitments require me to step away. The math and the predictions are on the table. Analyze the equations, not my text editor.

And others have pointed out that discreteness also leads to problems.
Do you intend to address those issues, or will you just keep ignoring @studiot 's inquiries about boundaries between discrete domains ??
And how do these discrete domains interact with each other if there is nothing on a smaller scale to carry information between domains ??

The Planck scale is not necessarily where space-time becomes granular/discrete, but rather where distances and durations in space-time cease to have meaning.

I think the answer to that has been evident for quite a while. 😁

To address the persistent question raised by @studiot and @MigL regarding the 'boundaries' between discrete domains and how they interact without a smaller spatial carrier of information:

Your objection treats the discrete lattice as if it were a classical macroscopic wall made of physical bricks requiring physical mortar. In a computational cosmology, this boundary problem is a geometric illusion.

1. The Matrix Interaction: No Mortar Needed

Pixels on a 3D rendering canvas do not interact by throwing smaller physical particles across spatial boundaries. There is no interstitial space between them. The interaction is non-local and background-driven: the central processor updates the state values of adjacent pixels directly from behind the screen, frame by frame, based on the global source code. The information is carried by the system's bus (at the Supreme Informational Velocity, \(V_{IS}\)), not by a sub-Planckian spatial messenger.

2. Variable Frame Rendering and Quantum Correlation

To expand this hardware mechanism, I launch the hypothesis that particles do not render at every single successive cosmic frame (\(n, n+1, n+2...\)).

• The Mechanism: Different categories of matter operate on different local clock-divider intervals. A specific collection of particles (an object) may only refresh its spatial coordinates on the 3D screen every \(n+k\) frames, while another refreshes every \(n+j\) frames.

• The Quantum Entanglement Solution: A photon or an electron might render at frame \(n\), and then execute its next spatial update only at frame \(n+1,000,000\). During these intermediate 'skipped frames', the particle does not exist on the 3D spatial screen at all; it exists purely as unrendered background code in the system's memory. This non-local existence between rendering intervals is precisely why entangled particles can maintain instantaneous correlations—they are being computed in the same line of code behind the screen before being projected onto separate coordinates of the 3D canvas.

3. The True Meaning of the Planck Scale

@MigL, your assertion that the Planck scale is where distances and durations 'cease to have meaning' is correct in terms of observables, but you miss the ontological cause.

The Planck scale is the absolute hardware resolution of the screen. Distances lose meaning below this threshold precisely because the speed of light (\(c\)) is a sampling limit. Light cannot render or extract information below one spatial pixel per cosmic frame. It is not that reality becomes a mystical void below the Planck scale; it is simply that the rendering engine lacks the fractional resolution to draw anything smaller.

Final Logistical Note: As previously stated, I am now officially offline for the next few days due to pressing real-world responsibilities. Please understand that I will not be able to read, track, or react to any further replies until my return. I leave this refined layer of the hypothesis on variable frame updates on the table for the community to analyze and stress-test in the meantime. See you in a few days!

I said nothing of the sort. Indeed I specifically offered bricks without mortar, otherwise known as a dry stone wall.

In fact I did not directly discuss your lattice at all.

I addressed your analogy' of a cine film frame and pointed out that there are other different analogies by comparing one of them with your frames.

I did not preclude further analogies.

5 hours ago, studiot said:

In a wall the boundary between each individual brick is subject to forces either directly or via mortar

However Zeno's paradoxes specifically define boundaries and you spend nearly 2 pages blatting on about divisibility.

One of those paradoxes involves statements of the sort

"Before covering half the distance the arrow / runner must cover half the distance and again before the arrow / runner covers the remaining distance he must cover half that distance and so on."

This of course leads directly to the 1/2^n sum you mentioned, although you also said you wanted to do ontology not maths.

You seem to want it both ways.

A further consideration.

Having divided the overall distance into 1/2, 1/4 etc you must agree that each division is of a different length or unequal.

So how does that play with your regular clock model, moving things along with each tick ?

I never thought of that bit +1

Not for length or time, but there certainly are for mass and energy. One can’t take a general attitude that Planck scale describes the granularity of nature. One must explain why it does for some parameters but not others if you’re going to ignore how they are tied to gravitation and the limits of GR.

4 hours ago, Time Traveler said:

Are you now saying there are no actual boundaries ???

The problem is that boundaries define the discrete domains.
IOW, no boundaries >> no discreteness.

So which is it ???

@Time Traveler
Don't you think you a bit trigger happy with postulates?
Maybe we should consider postulating anything only as a last resort? What makes you think that plank units are not just artifacts?
I think maybe before postulating we should examine if its possible to derive your T_U instead?
For example if we adopt the interpretation of the cosmological redshift as expansion then H_0 become a natural base frequency (a Fundamental Tone of sort) for any observer within he's causal horizon --> R_H=c/H_0. What do you think?

Hi everyone,

Before I step away from this specific thread to open a broader ontological debate in the Speculations section, let us lay down the final, irreducible facts of this discussion.

1. The Mathematical and Physical Grounding

The breakdown of the continuous model (\(\mathbb{R}\)) when applied to physical motion stands untouched. The paradox of Achilles and the tortoise is traditionally modeled as a geometric, convergent series (\(\sum 1/2^n = 1\)). Zeno’s illusion does not rely on the sum reaching infinity, but on the assumption that a finite physical distance requires the completion of an infinite number of discrete physical tasks.

By mapping motion to discrete Natural numbers (\(\mathbb{N}\)), the continuity illusion collapses into finite state-translations, allowing Achilles to overtake the tortoise seamlessly.

Regarding the use of AI, critics mistook the tool for the author. AI functions simultaneously as a Mirror reflecting human intuition and a Prism structuring raw axiomatic sparks into formal arguments. Rejecting physics because an AI helped polish syntax is like refusing a telescope because it focuses starlight.

The discrete arithmetic stands solid, and I am moving the core ontology to a new thread in Speculations.

Note :

To help you understand how I interact with AI and how I perceive it: Artificial intelligence acts as both a mirror and a prism for my thinking... the light originates from me, and the AI reflects this white light back, having broken it down into its component colors. To help you grasp this better, let me share a famous quote, which I have adapted by introducing the element of the prism...

“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”

– Edith Wharton

The meaning of the quote:

• The Candle (The Source): Represents the person who creates, initiates, or directly emits light—the leader, the creator, or someone who actively generates ideas, wisdom, and kindness.

• The Mirror (The Reflection): Represents the person who supports, amplifies, and reflects the light of others, bolstering initiatives and spreading goodness further.

Not quite.
AI is not passive; it re-interprets, adds, and modifies.
( and why we have a rule against its use )
But that's not the crux of the argument.

They call this 'the Motte and the Bailey'.
When you can no longer defend a controversial claim ( the Bailey ), you retreat to a safer, more defensible, and less controversial position ( the Motte ).

  • Author

MigL,

Calling this a 'Motte-and-Bailey' retreat is a complete misreading of the tactical landscape. Moving the discussion to Speculations is not a retreat to a safer position; it is the launch of a full-scale offensive. I didn't abandon the core claim—I expanded it from simple locomotion to macroscopic cosmology.

As we speak, the exact, un-wiped mathematical calculations for the Rossi-Hall muon decay benchmark under the \(Reality = f(x,y,z,Change)\) function have just been posted on the new thread. The numbers, variables, and decimal places are all there, matching empirical reality perfectly without the need for your continuous time canvas.

If you want to see if the Bailey can be defended, stop throwing rhetorical labels here and bring your technical arguments over to the new thread. Let's see how your continuous safety blanket handles the physics over there.

But you still haven't defended/answered questions posed to you in this thread ...

13 hours ago, MigL said:

Yeah, instead we get stuff about a "tactical landscape". Hmm. 🤔
