This is another US problem, one that probably deserves its own thread, but we have zero continuity as a country. One side works for 4-8 years to achieve their goals, after dismantling what the other side did for the last 4-8 years. The the first side gets back in power and starts undoing things. Such a stupid, stupid waste of resources!

The first time I can remember one side actually destroying something the other side built was when Reagan took off the solar panels Carter had installed at the White House, although it probably has happened before. Since then, both have done it.

For that matter, I feel that the dismantling of government functions and goals is more associated with post-Reagan conservatives where the idea of small vs big government became the dominant lens to view the world. So much so that some otherwise reasonable folks try to argue about fascism, communism and Nazism in the sense of big vs small government axes.

There’s a danger in “both sides” arguments since the number and degree matter. You can say “both sides break the law” about two groups of people, but if it’s a rash of felonies vs a couple of parking tickets it gives a false sense of equivalence

Trump’s dismantling of the government reeks of retribution against his immediate predecessors.

Where are the small government extremists now that the Feds are being deployed to do the work of local police against the wishes of governors?

Oh, I have no doubt that this was mostly rhetoric, though it managed to change the way folks thought about the government, which probably was the plan all along. It is just now that the mask is all off.

I love how his base is working against him, hoping to find dirt on Democrats. I hate how they can't figure out that he has to be in those files, since he hasn't released any dirt on Democrats.
