Immediately after the site migration I'm pretty sure I found some inverted commas (as with other forums using this platform/format) which gave me a quote box to insert into.

But I can't find it anymore so as noted in the screenshot I have had to create my own .

As can be seen there are no inverted commas in the input editor toolbar at the top.

Can we have it back please ?

Are you talking about "Wrap in Quote" ?

Write something, select it, then "Wrap In Quite"..

This is a quote I created from the drop-down menu indicated by the + inside the filled circle (second from the left, next to the ).

You are right, but what a cumbersom rigmarole!

Why hide the light under a bushel?

Many thanks anyway, +1.

Why hide the light under a bushel?

We have to go with the system the new host provides. There are no more modnote boxes, because they were custom code and that’s not supported by this version.

There might be differences between browsers, I found some quote functions I don't remember from before. The first one is quite useful:

1: mark a piece of text, a quote button appears:

The resulting quote:

2: Quote button for one or more posts, available at the bottom of posts:

The multi quote (the + button) collects a "stack" of quotes, this stack is available via a button and clicking the button inserts the quotes in the post, at the location of the cursor.

Hello Ghideon.

Thanks for that resume, I didn't know about the + collecting quotes, that works on another site I visit as well.

Note there the quotes stay in you copy/paste table (like modern Word) from thread to thread until you need them.

But I was actually wanting to create a blank block which is clearly marked out as a blank quote and then paste something into it from elsewhere (including acknowledgements and perhaps a link).

In this case, I had found it straight after the migration but forgot how I did it, so iNow's offering leading me back to it was great.

Thanks for the explanation!

That reminded me; I had not yet tested the behaviour of the "wrap in quote". The new "wrap in quote" has the capability of moving already pasted text into a quote if the cursor is located in a paragraph. I find it useful for my style of writing; results in less cut & paste.

When you quote from an external source, you should use the “Wrap in quote” option. In my opinion, this is a rarely used option. But when quoting someone from a forum, there are much better tools - because they keep the forum member's ID and date.
