What field of science are you in and why?

Im in the field of molecular cell biology, with focus on cell adhesion and polarity proteins.

I'm into math, physics, and computer science. I also have love for other sciences, such as theology, political science, and monotheism etc.

I have a B.S. Physics and am about to begin a masters in education. I plan to get a PhD at some point. I am also interested in computer programming.

First year university physics so most of my knowledge is fairly elementry and generalized. Although I know a disproportionate amount about space related topics.

Roughly a month into 1st year undergrad OU science...covers all areas, leading to a BSc in physics, so I'll be studying maths for the end and good part of next year.

 

Just got more books through today...QM to start in a few months, can't wait...that's the field I'm really interested in.

I have an equal interest in all sciences so i opted to do medicine. Im now in my last year of university and dont regret my choice for a second. I am however still contemplating as to what I should specialise in.. The choices dont end once youve picked what to study. I cannot make suggestions on what YOU should study, because its not me who's gonna be studyin it. I can only offer u advice from my own experiences and that is to do something u WANT to do, something that when it gets really tough u wont just pack up and quit. Good luck!

I started off with an interest in gentics but found that was really dull (to me at least) during the first term of my degree and got well into biochemistry. An MRes got me more into the biophysics side of things and a brief stint in a cancer research lab put me off pharmacology and biomedical research and I ended up randomly, in a lab doing biosensor research and I've now got sucked into the world of electrochemistry and interfacial/surface analysis science.

 

I think as long as you are always interested in new stuff you can never really say "I want to be x, y, or z" I think what really interests me these days is finding new ways to find stuff out and development of new technologies in science.

I am still a postdoc (which sucks btw) working in the field of, well, -omics.

I.e. genomics and postgenomics (including transcriptomics, proteomics and a wee bit of metabolomics). Almost exclusively on bacteria. While it is fun to work with them, funding is a little bit tricky. Impact factors for instance are much lower for microbiology papers than, say, cell biology ones.

I always had interest in the human body, how it works and all the mysteries that lie behind it. So I think medicine is the right course for me, but seeing that eight years in college is too expensive for the poor, i have no other choice but to take nursing. it may only be four years in college, but it is still very expensive. so my other choice is on psychology..still has something to do with humans. i find it really interesting to study the human mind, you know, to find out why humans are the way they are.

I majored in Pharmacology, NOT to be confused with Pharmacy. Pharmacology, loosly defined, is the study of how chemicals interact with biological systems.

 

I was interested in the life sciences as a kid and often wondered how drugs worked so I choose pharmacology.

 

I could have choosen, biochem, or microbio, or molecular biology, or chemistry.

 

But what attracted me to pharmacology was its interdiciplinary nature. It combined all of the above. So as an undergrad I was exposed to the fundamentals of receptor pharmacology, rational drug design, signal transduction etc. and during my Ph.D. studies, I was able to do experiements that allowed me to measure how a drug bound to its receptor, or how it activated the receptor an so on.

 

I felt the knowledge obtained from the study of pharmacology would be more vaulable and so far, it has been working out for me! Good luck with whatever field you choose!

I am studying toward a PhD in mathematical physics. My interestes are in geometry and topolgy in physics;

 

1) Geometry and quantum field theory

2) BRST symmetries and the antibracket

3) Supermathematics

well i'm currently in high school but i already know what i want to do. its either go in to computer science or chemistry. But its such a difficult choice since i just absolutely love computers but also chemistry and blowing things up and just general science.

Do chemistry. Any CS people I know lose it after awhile.
