What the hell is Putin doing?

I don't know which specific news you are refering to but I can tell you what I think Putin is doing based on his prior actions. He's destabilizing people, areas or systems of particular interest to him in order to try to gain control over them. He has a mentality of a KGB agent (he was one for years) and hes using the tools he was taught to his gain. Unfortunately hes very good at it.

I think he became an expert in extremist capitalism while working under communism, and I think he's probably twice as rich as Bill Gates. I also think he's trying to get richer, like so many at that level who mix the powers of wealth and government.

 

Oh, and he wants to lead Russia for life.

There were debates over how rich he is, what was dug out on him points to ~60Bln $ but I suspect this figure is a lot higher and he very much be the richest person in the world and by far as well.

It's fiction but he's certainly capable of this.

I remember reading an article that claimed the difference between the revenue the Russian government took in during Putin's time and what they spent was staggering, and it's most likely Putin retained most of it. I don't think he wants notoriety if it might damage his puppeteering work.

Its that, plus he controls the oligarchs so in effect he's worth hundreds of bilions. We all saw what happened to Khodorkovsy when he tried to oppose Putin.
