  1. Yeah, I've seen some questionable papers in even the more reputable journals.
  2. Sphere just has the greatest volume compared to the amount of surface area. You likely can't see the Universe externally. The Universe can create space internally, so there is no logical reason why it would need external dimensions.
  3. That is how you experience the waking state as well though. Your brain takes the inputs from your senses and after some editing, presents you with a coherent narrative of events. This is a fun example demonstrating your blind spot: Your brain fills in the gap, without even bothering to inform you of the fact.
  4. Yeah, that matches up with some gnostic concepts of the demiurge. The force or being that created the material world. I see it as having been a system of salvation based on the possession of "secret" knowledge(Greek: Gnosis). I just find that to be anathema and plenty exclusionary in its own way. It is an interesting subject intellectually and historically though.
  5. Could you provide more details on what you are asking for?
  6. IMO they just didn't want to do anything too serious. Not that hard to pull up financial records and see who would be least likely to actually care. They were certainly specific in their targeting.
  7. No. I am saying there are simply too many beliefs under that umbrella to speak out in favor of gnosticism. I am in favor of equality for all, but I don't see gnosticism as being in support of this.
  8. Just a thought, but could you try neutralizing their charge or maybe using a humidifier? Be interesting to hear how it goes.
  9. I really see there as having been too many sects forced under the Gnostic umbrella to make that sort of judgement. According to the Gospel of Judas only a select few could reach Heaven(as revealed to Judas by Jesus). Contrasting with that is Mandaeism in which Jesus was seen as a false prophet. A couple of the more extreme examples, but both are likely to feel equally "wrong" to a majority of Christians today. I do think for moral and practical reasons major religions will become more accepting over time. Most probable situation looking at past history.
  10. Yeah, I've found a good bit about seeds clinging in general(mostly in farming applications) and electroculture(which I suspect is largely unrelated). Nothing about research into plants deliberately utilizing static electricity for seed dispersal, don't see any reason why it wouldn't be possible though.
  11. I was trying to show you that your site could be quite trivially hacked. I don't like doing permanent damage myself, but there are many others who think differently. That was the same basic method used in a number of cross site scripting attacks on major companies. You get a user to run your code on top of the site's and proceed to steal their information. Do some penetration testing, look at the online resources available on the subject, maybe even try a few "Hack this site" challenges. At the very least you would have a better understanding of the risks you are recommending others take.
  12. I was thinking astronomy pictograms or videos might work. ie. An object orbiting vs crashing, representing yes or no, good or bad. Different star types to represent increase/decrease. Angular momentum conservation should also lead to cross-cultural similarities that we could work with. Main thing would be to figure out how they sense their environment. Once that is known, we could work on converting the representation into a form they would be able to recognize.
  13. Is this what you are looking for? [latex] T=a-\frac{b}{3}-0(40-(a+b)) [/latex]
  14. That was code injected to run on your site. Code Injection post something like: <?php "<span><font color="red" size="20">Owned</font></span>" ?> into the name field and click "Send Message". Your approach is unsafe as everyone has been trying to tell you.
  15. Yeah, that's just one of the Animal Planet mock scientific documentaries that they did. They also produced "Mermaids: The Body Found" if you are interested.
  16. I do understand the power of eval, I understand the power of eval to allow hackers to execute their code on your page. http://br2.php.net/manual/en/function.eval.php It is quite possible you might be able to safeguard your own variables. Now can you make the same claim for everyone else who might use your method? If not, then you are exposing them to unnecessary risk and worse not even acknowledging this fact. It is certainly not just us saying this. You can look up "eval hacks php", "eval alternatives", "eval is evil" and see much the same. What is old is new again I can't say I'm huge on security for anything I don't have a personal stake in, but I do like to see it done well if at all possible.
  17. Potentially allows for smaller chips, ternary system and reversible computing. Translates into something smaller, faster and more energy efficient. Just to be clear, there a number of different methodologies being attempted at present. Edit: Removed part about quarks, not sure what I was looking at there. Too easy for net malarkey to find a home in my brain :/
  18. I don't want to ever land on a secreted runway.
  19. Not sure on speed, but if someone is able to change the evaluated variable they can end up owning another user's session. I hadn't even heard of any real eval hacks for years now, since most everyone avoids it like the plague. "If eval() is the answer, you're almost certainly asking the wrong question." – Rasmus Lerdorf, creator of PHP
  20. Nuclear waste can be obviously radioactive, but you are less likely to be exposed to it than pollutants from more common processes(coal, oil, etc.). Not sure what you mean in terms of water. Typically the two-stage process limits environmental radiation exposure to extremely low levels though. The reactor borne mutation thing is pretty much a myth. I spent months sleeping near a reactor and got more radiation exposure from sunlight. I would actually go back there and try and soak up some of what it put out in hopes of gaining some of the positive benefits from low level exposure. Now in the event of accident, bombs, you find a magically glowing powder, yes, you should worry about exposure. Mostly in terms of radiation poisoning. Otherwise you are pretty safe around them.
  21. I don't even see all that much "hate" for it here, on a regular basis. None of these oppressive regimes(in terms of pseudo-communism) happened here. Didn't get the brainwashing of the Cold War era. Mostly only ever see it come up is in some Politician's talking points(almost always a Republican). ie. "Program X, is communistic and this is why I, Bob Everyman, stands against it!" Bombastic bull crap. Nothing anyone with more than two brain cells should take seriously. Broadly generalizing, I hear more raging about it from Eastern Europeans online than anywhere else. I understand where they are coming from. I can't imagine any amount of "that is not what Communism is actually about", would mean much to me if I had gone through what they and their families did. From my POV the actual attempts have done well. Communal associations of free individuals pooling their talents and resources, to make themselves and likewise their communities better off. I think economic systems run more on inertia than anything else. Almost always takes a drastic regime change for something different to arise.
  22. Recursion is similar repetitions, in this case repeated function calls. To really understand recursion though, you need to understand recursion. Just joking, a good real life example is the effect you see standing between two mirrors. Can even draw parallels between this and what is being asked of you.
  23. That was more the fault of the party dictatorships than the economic system. Typically they bastardize their economic system into one with the State running and owning everything. That isn't what communism was originally envisioned as. There are a number of examples out there, communes, monasteries, co-ops, where the sharing of resources and mutual decision making have worked out quite well for the participants. Even the employee owned company could be considered a form. edit: CharonY beat me to it
  24. That just takes all the fun out of treating it as a totally factual reference. Establishing a timeline of events for the arrest of Jesus is another good one. Treating the Gospels as eyewitness reports.
