  1. Today is the two year anniversary of my wife's passing, funny how the first year passed almost without me noticing the date, but this year it has really messed me up. I miss her so badly, the world is a much worse place without her.

Thank you guys, Phi I didn't realize until yesterday i was focusing on the date. The past few days have been full of panic/anxiety and depression. A full blown panic attack almost had me go to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack or something. Everyone keep telling me it will get better but it only gets worse. I still expect her to walk into the room at any time. I still think to tell her something I've seen or heard that was interesting. We shared so much it's difficult to even consider we can no longer share.

Vat, you make a very good point, she did keep me more or less on the straight and narrow and I miss her companionship, 46 years of marriage is difficult to get past. I've even been asked out by women recently but I still feel married and could see no way to do that. My own behavior has changed, I've become combative, easily irritated and very much unsure of myself.

  2. I watched Avatar... The Way of the Water last night... or should I say Moby Dick on another planet? Wonderful CGI technology but evidently future humans are so evil the universe should be hoping for an early Nuclear War. What is the plot of the next Avatar based on? Maybe they'll step up and go with something more adult like Between Planets by Heinlein, Ooo Ooo Ooo I know! How about Oliver Twist? Naw too complex.

  3. Has google merged with yahoo? I woke up this morning to a google page with yahoo in the search space but with google still listed as my search engine and missing some of my long term apps list.

  5. As of today I am officially retired from government service (29.5 years in total)

  6. I had a personal experience tuesday morning at about 05:00...

I was driving to the Walgreens pharmacy due to an intense sinus headache, planning on buying some Nyquil. I knew I was sick but all of a sudden i became severely nauseous and stopped the jeep to get out and lose my cookies. I woke up lying on the pavement beside a huge puddle of upchuck, i looked up at the sky and saw the beautiful stars but I was too weak to get up.

I was on my back in the middle of the busiest intersection in my city, I slowly got up and scanned my surroundings. I was in the middle of the intersection of two 4 lane streets, strip malls and street lights all around me where shining bright... but no cars, no humans, nothing but neon lights and sodium vapor lights as far as the eye could see!

This was one of the oddest experiences I ever had made even more surreal by the total lack of other humans. Suddenly I felt like i was at the start some sort of apocalyptic Science fiction movie. Really strange, As I slowly stood up to climb back in my jeep I thought how great it would be if a cop showed up.

It was weird! I used to spend a lot of time fishing at night and coming and going to the beach at all hours of the night and I never saw the streets this deserted. Wilmington, NC has 117,000 people, the county has 229,000 people including Wilmington, not exactly metropolis but it seemed like no one was home the morning of the 1st.

  10. I found a house in my price range near where the Maco Light used to be. They took up the railroad tracks and replaced them with houses. I wonder what happened to the Maco Light, where did it go?

  12. I'm growing self cloning crayfish, anyone else interested in this?

My self cloning crayfish have resulted in such a numerous population i am using them as fish food. The down side is that some escape and start eating my plants.

I have a couple of "proprietary" methods of insuring crayfish breed out of season, every 28 days to be specific. But these self cloning females breed continuously with no need to trick them into season.  No need for males either and none appear in the clone's broods.

I used to breed dwarf crayfish commercially, in the time these self cloning crayfish have resulted in many dozens of crayfish I would have been lucky to get a dozen having started out with just two.

Yes they are a thing, somewhat controversial as well, they suddenly appeared in some guys aquarium several years ago, a mutation. They have become established in the wild in a few places, they out reproduce naturally reproducing crayfish. I had two to start with couple months ago, I bought them as a food source for my mudpuppy, now i have dozens and dozens of them.

  16. I hope and pray you will get better mate. And that the pain decreases to a tolerable and controllable level so that you can think clearly again. I look forward to your posts. I find heavy rock music to be cathartic when in pain....

  17. I got a major award today (plaque, not a sexy leg-lamp) for my "staunch defense of USNO's interests" in a project I'm working on

I live in an apartment now, no place to really work, it makes a huge mess to make such a background.
