  1. I started riding motorcycles in 1970, dirt bikes, a yamaha 125 enduro lasted almost two years of hill climbing, and tearing through the woods and hills of WV but i tired of that and i wanted a street bike. A RD 350 yamaha bought by working for a year at a local grocery story provided the funds and and i enjoyed "cafe" type racing throughout all the little twisting roads  that snaked through the mountains and I thought I had the world by the tail until one day i saw this on the cover of a motorcycle magazine. I still have that magazine encased in plastic for all time

     https://www.motorcycle.com/features/archive-1971-yamaha-gl-750.html

I worked as many hours as possible hoping to one day own that beautiful motorcycle but finally I got tired of waiting and bought a Kawasaki 900. I thought I'd never forgive yamaha for not producing that motorcycle but I forgave them when the yamaha 1100 midnight special became mine.

But I still dream about what it would have been like to have thrashed the curves on a motorcycle, that at the time, was close to 5 years head of everyone else in nearly every way. Just before yamaha decided not to produce a street legal version of the bike, opting instead for the TZ 750 road racer it was rumoured the production bike was going to be a 1000cc two stroke 4 along with reed valves, fuel injection, hydraulic disc brakes and liquid cooling, all this in 1971!...   Sadly my dream never came true but I still have my baby in my dreams.

dimReeper, I see no reason to continue to put up with your bullshit, either comment in a clear and precise way or be blocked.

I do appreciate all the kind thoughts, I am so excited I can't sand it. I miss my children being little and now I get another chance to help raise a baby! It's just... wonderful!

  5. I know it's lazy of me but can anyone give me a link to someplace I can get tables to determine the mass of a star vs it's brightness?

Thanks @Janus, it surprised me how fast luminosity drops off with such a small decrease in mass. Can the life time of the star on the main sequence be figured from the mass being 93%?

Thank you, I am trying to find out how massive a star would be if it was 75% of the suns brightness...

  7. Well I'm back, almost three weeks of Hurricane and after math. My blog post about it here

    http://blogs.scienceforums.net/moontanman/2018/10/02/hurricane-florence/

It has been 19 days of destruction fear, terror and boredom.

Well I am back, just now got my ISP back along with tv and phone, still lots to do for clean up. I just posted to my blog about the storm, a bit stale now almost three weeks in but still relevant.

      http://blogs.scienceforums.net/moontanman/2018/10/02/hurricane-florence/

The days without power were a bitch, lost all my food in the freezer and refrigerator. House was brushed by a large tree falling,  blew away my privacy fence, took down several trees in my yard. Fruit trees took a beating, I lost a lot of fish, flooding ruined my freezer. All in all it was a crazy three weeks..

I just got power back, it keeps going in and out, the wind is crazy and the rain is epic. The eye wall is a few miles away, 90mph winds with gusts much higher. I'm going to log off, the power is not holding and my computer keeps cutting off. See you in the morning...

I'm back, the storm is serious now, wind is tossing things around and the rain is coming down harder. Supposed to last until Monday morning... oh joy...

power keeps blipping on and off, I might not be online much longer

So far this is the wimpiest hurricane I've gone through, almost no rain and just a light wind, let's hope it stays that way. The eye wall is less than 75 miles off the coast still coming directly at us..

I live in an area that was swamp or seasonal vernal pools many decades ago, the soil doesn't drain and results in water pooling up. In times gone by the water would have been a few feet deep but they dug huge ditches and drained the land to the nearby swamp. The area is higher than the surrounding areas but held pools due to dunes in the area but they flattened the dunes and drained the subsoil. Now water pools to a few inches before draining off to the swamp. We get flooding but it's not like floods you would  get in the mountains. Instead of rushing away in streams it just pools up and spreads over a wide area until it encounters a ditch. Any closer to the ocean and we would get storm surge much further away and we would get flooded by rushing water. I checked the local flood maps and our risk is less than 1%. I am more worried about wind blown debris and downed trees than water. The last few hurricanes have massively flooded all around us, with luck it will be that way again.

I've got around 500 gallons of water in plastic drums, oil lamps and propane for cooking. I am worried about my fish, I have more than I usually keep on hand and a power outage will be a problem.

I just saw on the news the storm has been down graded to a cat 2 but it is 500 miles across and very heavy rain is expected inland, 30" or more.

  15. My cousin Jeff Stewart died this morning. Jeff was more than a cousin, he was my brother in so many ways, the way only a real brother can be. One of the few people I have ever known who was basically a good person no matter what situation he found himself in. It's difficult to wrap my head around the fact a world can exist without Jeff in it.

He was one of the good guys for sure, hard to imagine I'll never sit on the porch with him again and talk about space or fishing and hunting. He liked being alive and understood wanting to understand the world..

  17. Big bang and evolution is incompatible with The Word of God. Therefore big bang is fake. When the Torah was Written by Moses under Jesus' instruction, The Creation was very carefully worded so as not to allow 'insertion' of extra time. So there was evening and morning dividing each of the six 24 hour days of Creation.

Ask yourself, "How did The Lord know that in the 20th Century, Satan would trick 'scientists' into believing the big bang and evolution nonsense?".

The Lord knows all things past and future, and clearly states that anyone who does not accept Jesus as their personal Saviour will have eternal death. So being a very 'clever' big bang secular scientist believer is actually proving they are 'fools'. That's why nothing works out for the cosmologists who merely become tangled in Satan's web of lies. Satan wants you DEAD to Jesus, and as Jesus is the Life, you are therefore 'lost'. So are the scientist clever?? No they are simply 'lost fools'. David  70.98047

The expansion of the universe does change over time, In fact the speed of expansion is speeding up but nonetheless please start a thread if you want to discuss this. Unsolicited discussions are against the rules here. If you are banned you will not be able to talk to anyone here. Why do you target me? I am not a cosmologist and from your assertions i dare say neither are you...

Do you have any evidence any of this is true? remember the bible cannot be evidence of itself . The bible is a claim that requires evidence.

  20. Tonight i was pretty much run out of an "ancient aliens" community on youtube for suggesting that maybe evidence should be pursued instead of assumed. Kicked my ass! The Science forum is a much nicer place to discuss anything...
