  1. 1.Well those cells are distintivly RBC's and it sure does look like avioli to me, though its hard to tell if that is a bronchiol over top left cuz its filled with RBC's (its been along time, forgive me). The only other thing i could think of looking like this with so many tight groupings of red blood cells is red marrow, though i dont think it would look like this at all. Oh also pneumonia is a lung issue so unless its a trick question your looking at avioli (tiny air sacs in lungs where RBC's pick up oxygen). 2. off the top of my head the 2 common Chronic ones are Tubercolosis and MRSA, There are many many many cuases for pneumonia, go to wikipedia for more. 3. At any university that has A&P go to there bookstore they may have a hystology guide with lots of good pictures, or just get into a lab. It just takes practice, Knowing what tissues look like what... Many tissues look very similar and are only visibly different by a few extra layers or structures, that one is not so, its very distintive tissue. The most repeated saying in histology is "Form follows Function"
  2. I was gonna say dopamine is huge, but wow thats a awsome pdf. There are so many factors that regulate such things in the brain, its really not that well understood. One thing to think about is not just the transmitters, but the receptor site... Receptor sites may have more of a ability to naturally regulate. I was recently reading on the prefrontal cortex, and it was stated that depressed people have activity (via PET scan) located in different regions than happy people. To think that perhaps location and concintration of receptor sites may vary between these regions. There are also, many times slightly diffrent versions of the same chemical, the brain is known to use a function called Affinity to regulate how much and where these chemicals will be used.
  3. 1. Normally boxers are not stressed to use bone hardening style training found mainly in traditional karate and sholin kung-fu. These Techniques have been critized for causing arthritis. They do undoubtably make your punch harder and your hand better protected when you are fighting barehanded. Most boxers train there hands with bag work, mostley with gloves on. Sometimes you might see them with just wraps and working on the heavy bag, Still this is nothing like the training methods from the aformentioned east. 2. A boxing glove drastically changes the phisics of fist fighting. By putting on that glove you are adding upto twice the wieght (ive always wonderd what a hand wieghed?), aswell as atleast quartering the density. This has the effect of making a boxers punch much differently then in other martial arts. The epiphinal boxing punch is a kenitically linked hook to the chin or temple. Simply "kenitically linked" means your putting your whole body into it. Putting your whole body into it works really well in boxing because you have that extra wieght on your striking point (bigger spearhead=?) and also the low density/wide area of your striking point makes a KO with a less powerfull shot very hard. Also with that aformention hook.... Boxers tend rotate there hand 90 degrees to give an extra "snap", meaning the fist lands horizontally with your thumb facing you. Punching this way increases the chance that your pinky and ring knuckle will catch alot of force. Those are your weakest knuckles, and a fracture to either is commonly called a "boxers fracture". Many places will teach you to hook with a vertical fist (thumb facing up). This decreases the chance of fracture but takes away alittle power afforded to you by that snap.
  4. The stomach has a pretty quick and simply job comparitivly to the small and large intestine. Eating more will stimulate the release of more digestive enzymes. The Food that has already partially brokendown due to reactions with these enzymes will not get any furthur treatment becuase there is nothing left for those particualar ezymes to react with.
  5. Yah see a doc if your really concerned. To me it just sounds like overstimulated/exititory photoreceptors (what our eyes use to pick up a individual pixel, like the dots on a old TV upclose). Try these 2 things and see if they are reminicent of seeing your atoms? 1. stare at a light bulb for a few seconds, then close your eyes and wait for the blob of light to go away. 2. When the blob of light is gone and all you see is darkness, press very gently on your closed eylids, youll probably see a bunch of dots all lined up perfectly where the pressure is. These are those very photoreceptors, being stimulated by the pressure of your fingers. Even so, you could have a serious problem and should be vilgilant. Although if you've had it all your life, and its not progressing or getting worse, I wouldent worry to much more than to make an appointment.
  6. Theres no way to know from what youve said, your symptoms hit on a wide spectrum of possiblitys. Ill give you some suggestions for your own research. Just general possibilitys ordered by most serious to least. 1. Any number of rhumetiod deseases (auto-immune, your bodies defenses may be attacking itself) 2. The onset of a Neuromuscular deasease 3. Digestive disfunctions (your body isnt able to take from food what it needs) 4. Really what you say just sounds like the pain of atrophy (muscle loss). This would relate to lack of physical activity and/or poor diet (try to get away from that computer:-)). Also joints are known to work/feel better when they enjoy plenty of activity and lite stress.
  7. From memory, I beleive the inventer or discover of the X-ray may have died as a result of overexposer. Its scientific fact it can. Its really a risk vs. benifit argument. Its good to be aware, and involved in your own medical care. There may be doctors out there that overzealously use the X-ray because there afraid of missing something/litigation thereafter.
  8. Yep, an itch is regulated by mast cells that release hitamine. The over the counter medication Benadryl (an anti-histimine) is often perscribed to people that have to wear a casts for a while. Not sure about the hot water. A massive systemic release of histamine is the primary moderator of Anaphylatic Shock. It is called Shock becuase histamine is a very potent Vasodilator. So potent that not only does this dangerously decrease a persons blood pressure, but actually causes leaking (thirdspacing) into the suronding tissues (this is why they appear so swollen) Knowing that its a vasodilator, so is hot water (or just heat for that matter). There may be some physiological connection, im not sure what, other than the hot water is doing alot of what the histamine wants to do. -next time pop a benadryl (i think there are some non-drowsey anti-histamine varients on the shelfs these days)
  9. ^ l l Yeah, I know what you mean! I got through a few pages, but it felt way to reminicent of Errowid to finish (been there done that). Oh and I didnt mean I got stoned when I did the Dali thing, that would negate the purpose. Id just fall asleep . A few other ideas: What I saw one person touch on is called "Lucid Dreaming" that is bringing yourself to awareness and controlling your dreams. Been there inadvertantly a few times myself, then I tried and tried to use the techniques to get back and have a fuller expirence, but to no sucsess, it requires alot of disipline. The closest thing in my life to true hallucination comes from situations when im walking alone in darkness through tight trees, in areas where there are alot of large animals to jump out at you. I sometimes start to hear, see, turn and twitch at things that arent but a branch falling (if even that). The whole starvation/dehydration thing has been used by some native peoples of the world, its usually accompanied by along journey and physical isolation. The buddah (and many other monks) for a time perferd to just fast. Your brain requires alot of energy, and when it starts to run out wierd things happen.
  10. Wow I just learned a new accronym, Niice.. Yeah, I havent read much on/of freud. I was just name dropping from a distant memmory of my socratic seminar teacher. In that spirit Ill provide a short rebuttle. Frued had great insight on less than direct topics onto nurture. During his time, Darwin must have had a huge influence on him. Darwins is less than direct as it applys to the mind, but non-the-less graft the minds of darwin and frued together, and well... there you have it, The supreme NvN superego.
  11. Its funny for me.. I was anorexic recently for completely different reasons, but have overcome it (I think). My mom always said I was depressed for as long as I can remember, I always rebutted saying I was just sad due to my circumstances. Things went up and down for awhile, but eventually they cought up with me, and I entered for 6 months what many would describe as "severe life altering depression". It would take awhile to describe what it was, who I am, and how I fixed it, but I guess I am very lucky becuase it does feel behind me. The anorexia stoped when I changed my mindset and wanted to be happy. It took awhile to force my self to eat, and my body to adjust, but it happend. The most important thing I can state is how much clearer and less depressed I felt when I had food energy inside me. The brian does funny things when it is deprived of energy, mainly feeling more sad and well... wierd. And yes it is a psychological illness becuase it is in your head (cranberrys song!) there is nothing that is wrong with your body, (everyones different, as I have just stated I am a male and became anorexic becuase of depression) except your perception of it. I hope you feel better, try to find a good freind you can talk about it with (if you think that will help).
  12. Yeah im kinda wierd... Ive had fantasys all my life. Kinda like when you were a kid and you would play with ninja turtles or whatever, but they never stoped. Now as one would discribe as a social reculse or even asocial at times, I still have fantasys... though they are restricted (to my own supreme metal powers) to what I need to continue existence (and they are never dellusions). This girl is externalizing, that is she is undoubtibly intellegent and aware of the fact other people are aware of her delusional behavior. This is typically a warning sign in (what may become) siczophrenia. I am no doctor, nor do I beleive the DSM (bible of psychologists) holds all answers. This girl is candid, extrodinarly so.... this means she most likely percieves truama and frankly "doesent give a fock anymore". And yes to answer your question, she could be having delusions becuase she was rejected in life.. Often the best definition of "the cool kids" in high school, are those that are people pleasers, and good at it. Nothing makes you more freinds than making people happy. Generally in the simpleness that is high school (sry im gettin back) having tons of friends means people percieve you as someone they want to be there freind. lots of people want to be your freind = cool. The fact is that these girls were so nice was becuase they knew... they rememberd just as she did... and in an effort to please other people, and so onto themselves, they were very nice. This girl, is however very different from there world, so different she will probably never be truley there freind, this girl probably has no freinds. All I can suggest is to become her friend, let her know your there in the easiest way possible. She very well become romantically obsessesed with you, but this is normal among the deprieved. This is all I can say now.
  13. He could have Azbergers syndrome, also known as "high functioning autism". Although he was probably just thinking of boobies!, or just thinking. Did you know visual perception accounts for up to 25 percent of our processing power (brian use). He could have just been giving you your moneys worth.
  14. People very simply strive to share there journeys/exprirences/struggles with other people. Social exchange/expirence is crucial to our existence, and even to a monkeys existence (see: pit of dispair). Some people do not understand proper approach and believe that if they have seen "the light" it should be so easy to share "the light" with other people. To each our own is to our differing perception. Words have very little comparison to our thoughts and expirences, and until we are all vulcans and can mind-meld with each other... there will be major lapeses in explination and atleast as much in understanding... That being said.... seriously... you got any? hahahaha BAN BAN BAN hahaha
  15. I didnt read anything on this post, just not in the right mindset... Ill put in my 2 cents anyways. Around 18-19 I got obssesed with becoming a composer of orchestral music (scores, symphonies, whatever). I thought it would be an easy way out to life, amongst other pleasures I thought it would bring me. Melody is great in consiousness but an onsomble (or assembly, never had to spell that word!) was difficult. And then something happend. It was when I was nearing sleep, not quite there yet, but a mind very empty and ready to enter into. It was (and is, apon luck) as though I could hear and create things without even thinking about it. It still is one of the most mysterious things that has happend to my mind. Things were just very relaxed, as though there was nothing for my mind, but to be pieces of the orchestra. Very much later on I was reading on Salvador Dali. I remember something about him doing very much the same, but in a disiplined manner invoving some mechanism that would wake him up (some wieght that fell on him maybe). Anyways just my 2 cents.... yes ive smoked alot of weed, but only done shrooms once, and I didnt hallucinate... (choose dammage to your body on your own accord please!).
  16. As freud would say... There is nurture and nature.... Perhaps to our western culture this is nurture, and to the sight that is blindness this is nature.
  17. I am a medical professional, but only a paramedic (a very eccletically trained one though). We as Emergency professionals are built to have flashing lights go off in our heads. This is very beyond my specialty but i have 2 lights going off ENDOCRINE and GENETICS. You cant do anything about genitics (unless your rich/nuts/brilliant and stupid), but it may entertain you to see an endocrinoligist. Endocrinology is a very complex field (think "little genetics", or better "little epigenitcs"), and one that is unarguably still in the "art" stage. Know that, and that these people have the medications (hormones) that can either help you, or just as likely distroy your body. You are only 19, this means (in orthodoxy) that you may continue growing until your mid 20's, although statistically this may be well less than an inch (or nothing). About your body.... Im slightly short in stature, alot of my motivation for training my body comes from being bullied alot (mostly psychologically) and preparing myself for when it comes to life and death. At 13 when I was somewhat rejected by a girl I came across Bruce Lee's martial art Jeet Kune Do. This changed the way I thought about phisical trianing, but much more importantly MENTAL training. That being said, I can say... If you find the same motivation as me (martial arts). Even if you have long arms and a tough chin, you have to go with wrestling and/or Judo. Its just your body type. Your going to have to live with what you got and use it to its full potential (this applys to all of life) About masturbation.... Yeah most likely thats from very dumb people. However it is possible that if you masterbate to an extreme (like 8-15 times a day) you could have lowerd your free floating testosterone levels somewhat, but the effect would be negligible. This can be demonstrated by that calm feeling you have after an orgasim, thats when your testosterone is at its lowest (you get to feel like a woman!) but it only takes 10-20 minutes for it to go away? right?... anyways sry about the slightly drunk late night post (I Do not endorse alcholism!)... Some of the stuff I said about masturbation may have been grossly incorrect, its been on my review list for awhile. Oh I Forgot to say a few things.... Eat high protien to build muscle (huge packs of protien powder from costco or sams club, or just lean meat). Also from that thought, you may have a digestive disorder, or maybe just a naturally short digestive tract (learn to gorge, but not too much..). The more you eat the easier it becomes to eat more (invite a samoian to a buffet for competition). Oh and mainley, your way past the point where lifting will signifacantly decrease your hieght.... Go at it! and if you dont want to... just go at the cardio, your heart is just as big but has way less workload.... you (unlike many people) have the ability to run and run for days if you want.
  18. First post, I love science, always have. Im frustrated after 15 minutes of searching for a simple answer... Who was it that calculated solar output back appr. 1850's maybe? He used a watch, a block of ice, and the AU. Just a real neat story of the power of observation, i saw it on TV awhile back id like to know his name. Thank you.
