  1. I just watched a weather ballon at night (they have a light, probably to warn planes) ascend into the air... It was mostly cloudy, the wind seemed 10-15 somewhat gusty at ground level, the ballon seemed at 2-5000 feet. There was a moderatly dim star in the backround close to the ballon, the swaying motion of the ballon (they ascend rather slowly) made it seem as though the star was moving... I looked at it a while, it seemed as though it was a maybe a satillite (it was not). To which stars and meteors are often the explination for UFO's this post is for those for bigfoot and UFO's, not a skeptics view, but how the eyes are known to be untrustworthy (star wars). Another, more exiting story: I had been chronically smoking pot, and was acutley high... I was out on my deck... It was about 3am, i saw something in my neihbors back yard. From the moment this is how i would describe it: At about 15 yards through tall trees spaced (between such) gave patches of 2-5 meters of clear sight... It ran out 5 meters from there back porch. I then saw it against a distant/dim house light, It seemed as though it was 7-10 feet tall with a large head and a slim body.... This is what got the hairs to raise.... It stoped, seemed to look in my direction and made a clicking noise (2-3 quickly, high pitched). I had been reading alot of the R-Complex, dinosuars, and yes... Modern mythology on differnt types of aliens. Immediatly I went to a crouch, and had the thought to run inside and grab my setup (clicking made me think it was a reptoid, ill have fun fist fighting a saucer full of greys, but a freaking reptoid is scary!), Then within a second it decked it! It ran fast! faster then I could immagine any bipod running... It ran to the street, then towards my house, past it, and into a big chunk of woods... It was a very wierd expirence Well i deduced months later it was probably my neibores dog. They have a very big dog they hardley ever let out (its even pretty rural around here). I saw him during the day time, I heard the same clicking noise (still not sure what it is, to loud to be his tags). And it was that dim light that casted a shadow to make me think it was a freakin alien man This Thread is for everyone! I guess 1/20 people havent seen something wierd... To much coast2coast for me... The FM reciever on my deck has been broken for a while.
  2. 1) What is the ratio/good way to think about time dilation in respect to acceleration? If im going 50% the speed of light am I Expirencing time at 50% 2) Similar to the above statement but in respect to gravitational time dilation? 3) Is there some kinda connection between the two (gravitational/acceleration) as to that my acceleration is increasing my mass, therefore increasing gravitational forces?? 4) for the primary teachers out there, I need a quick refreser on acceleration, velocity, momentum. What is it that is so important to hiszinberg uncertinty? that is the property that describes both trajectory and speed?
  3. I saw one thing only... AND HAVE TO SAY hell yes! the whitestar most bueatifull/asthetic starship ever invisioned....
  4. I said. And you said "many people can walk into a Psych class and memorize Kohlberg's theory, or Garderner's theory.. it's what you take out and how you apply it that means something" To clarify what I mean... 1% of what you learn applys to 99% percent of your patients. The other 99% applys to the minority. To a paramedic this is as simple as managing a beta-blocker overdose, or throwing your standing orders out the door while you manage a crush sydrome with prolonged extrication (risking your carrer). The story to paramedics is that of the emergency cesarian-section. It was a rural mid-west area, with hour+ transport time.... They were running a code on a late pregnate lady... They knew she was a gonner, but also knew they could save the kiddo... They even got on the phone with the doc, and got approval/instructions... they got that scapel from there OB or crich kit and went at it.... They saved the kiddos life. Both are no longer medics. To a doc its something about why I hold DO in such regard... People in pain and suffering dont know whats going on... But they think and remember everything... all your tests may show its classical this or that. Then you hear something, from them in your interview.. It will be something vague... that you remember one of your proffesors saying a decade ago, you'll rip apart the hospitals library, your library, and search fruitlessly for hours... then you'll either find it and become an angel or learn something new. Remember its not about your interest, its about the patients best interest.
  5. But wouldent coins in general be somewhat useless as scrap metal? I couldent beleive a penny has that much copper in it these days due to the price.... It would be atleast 3 times as valuble just for the copper. Non-the-less most other coins are crappy useless metals right? Steel, Iron, lead, copper, gold, silver, titainium, aluminum are where its at... Am i wrong? did i miss something?
  6. Forgive me for not researching, but to my understanding MRSA is a staff infection resisitant to anti-biotics... How would this not constitute a chronic deasese? Acutley presenting can be to anything (other than prolonged enviormental exposer as someone mentioned).
  7. That drug has a fairley simple/well understood mechanism of action. I wouldent Immagine it would cuase long term symptoms after its cleared his system... I would think (he thinks to much) he may just need eyeglasses. Although from your post, I might suggest your freind is the kinda "do whatever is infront of him person", alot of people think stuff in tablet form is safe, becuase its medical... this is far from true... On that last thought, He may have taken anything that could cause semi-permanet issues... Among many, these may be phenoethyamines (hulcingenitic drugs, MANY types in pill form, anyone that knows chemistry can produce many types of these easily) Or Anti-psycotic medications (haldol, rosperidol or most names that end with "dol")... Among many others.
  8. Answers are unimportant! You have a very serious deasese and you need to flood you mind with positive feelings (maybe im a mystic, but I really beleive this helps). It doesent matter where you got it from, you have it! Immagine it as the craziest/strongest/meanist looking 250 pound rapist/murderer you've ever seen.... This guy is crazy and he is out to harm you... Even if its in the last round, after your beaten to shit, and can barley breath, barely move.... you will beat it.... you are resilent... you know this, your loved ones know this, and us all aswell... sorry for being so... gooey, anways. P.S. Thank you very much... I just buried my best freind (since chilhood, shot twice and brother died ran over) a month ago.
  9. Even so, whats a ton of pennies? have you seen the markets?, I havent! just whenever I flip on the tele thats what i see. I would be more intrested in extracting the copper or melting down copper into a solid block for investment/survivalist reasons... coppers been going through the roof! Its also very usefull/Important for modern society... Its funny to the Historians, as we are past the point where are coins quality Is significantly decreasing.
  10. Yeah it was the earliest, most crude method. I think he was a thermodynamics guy. Basically he used the AU (distance from earth to sun), the time it took for a fixed amount of ice to melt on a clear day, And his knowlege of thermodynamics and geometry to get a very rough estimate. This was in the days when people thought the sun was made of coal. Although there were many varibles unaccounted for (like a +/- %10), People craped there pants when the saw the number. Ive refined my search strings dozens of times, its all clogged up with "little ice age" or "global warming". It is a real nice story though... How one can use a basic law, basic math, a known value (AU) and some creativity to get a unknown value (the ice) and make a very valuable contribution. This is driving me crazy! Mostly becuase it seems so vague and unknown, and im so sick of looking... I even emailed Michio Kaku, I dont think he will respond. Soon im trying bill nye. I was originally going for that black guy from the science channel (he's seems infatuated by history) but I couldent deduce his name? Perhaps finding asmany emails of astrophysics professors around the county and sending mass emails might be best.
  11. I use opera, I looked through my tabs I didnt see it. Im sure someone has made a plugin though... I thought it might be one of these buttons (up top) in this text-box... Maybe someone that does alot of word processing knows what they all are.... At first i figured there would an info box if I kept the mouse on one... but how stupid.. nothing.
  12. Try a bit of baking soda... tastes filthy though.
  13. Well I even had a bit of education in computers... And honestly I wouldent know how to spell check here other than cut/paste into another program... I cant even remember what I need to type into the runbox to keep this hunk-of-junk working, none the less dos commands.
  14. Yeah im a bit of a skim reader. Thx for alerting me to my tendency to skip short posts. I kinda liked old looking bboards... less graphics to consume time.
  15. I only read the first post... I reply as such. I have terrible spelling and grammer, I can barely define those words. Ive had problems with language since I was very young. For along time due to the educational system (I even went to an optional school!) I was considerd by my peers, teachers, and parents to be not of particular intellegence. I wish I didnt have these problems, as to they have inhibited my fruitfullness in what I would call a normal life. But it was the wierdist thing.... when I went into middle school, I was isolated from my few friends (they were all in the smart-kid classes). Things became clear (as to real science classes being introduced) real clear. So clear I had problems being full of myself for a while after that... I guess I was lucky becuase I had this to realize how everyone is different. This sounds real bad, but its good.... Blacks may statistcally have 8 less I.Q. points then caucasions, but there certinally skilled at getting *****... To darwin this would be the most important form of intellegence
  16. ^ l l Exactly!, I thought for a good 10 seconds "but what kinda bullet" before I realized the moon has very little atmosphere. Then thought "but how did combustion take place" before I realized cartriges are sealed... then I returned to an idea I think ive had before... compressed pure oxygen in rifle cartriges... ofcourse this is just a painfull method of amputation... so dont worry about it, unless that corner is your special thinking place .
  17. Haha, yes I once entertained the question "how many bunny rabbits would I have to kill to get a gallon of deisel" I cant remember the answer... it wasent all that many... Energy problems solved! Oh crap I went out on the deck and had a smoke... I realized a few things. The protien/fat ratio is important (fat is king) but I recall the engineerd bacteria most of you are familiar with can make the magic happen with protien aswell right? recently I did some reading on earthworms, and how virialant and populos it can be beneath our feet.... for the good chemists out there, How many pounds of earthworms to a gallon of diesel? I guess dried out earthworms are nothing
  18. Has anyone heard of "The island of stability"? it should be on wikipedia.. Its a pretty neat prediction, Im not sure how scewed my thoughts are. I remember thinking some of the predicted propertys sounded like the wierd materials ive heard from roswell reports... not that I really beleive in that crap. P.S. Oh fine I guess its not that hard, but linking to wikipedia is so.... something. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_of_stability
  19. You mean like a cough on a respritory rythm graph? well theres that characterist smokers cough, you could immagine how that would look. And then with any type of restrictive airway desease it would have less amplitude, more frequent smaller coughs, or a longer cough with less amplitude. Bit of an odd question, kinda curious... I could only hypothesize that a healthy cough would look like it sounds, sharp angles on both sides of the curv with either a quick peak or a slight platou.
  20. If you are really interested in street medicine and/or want to be a PA for the extened scope of practice it may afford you, paramedic may not be a bad thing. Just be prepared for stressfull situations, lots bullshit, very ugly situations, a sore back, no praise and not being understood even by fellow medical proffesionals. Oh and I forgot... falling asleep in wierd places.
  21. "Even go to DO school" jerk!. I like to think its not all about that, its going to be how you present yourself and answer "why do you want to be a doctor". What specialty are you interested in? nuerology! are you sure thats what you want? is it your passion, could you see yourself in different one? for every 1000 people out ther smart enough to be a physician maybe only 1 should, it requires constant study, its not supposed to end in med-school or even residency. Your Alphabet soup looks pretty okay to me, focus on the interview.
  22. As I understand it, string theory cant be proven. It could be mathmatically discribed in whole however, and all simulations based on it would match the observations of our universe. It would become something that works and is freakin beatifull man:D
  23. Any excessive muccous production (associated with many things) can show up on X-ray. Pulmonary infarction typically comes from a pulmonary embolism. As for cancer... people are still writing bibles on that one.
  24. Im not very sure of the properties of "Afro hair", but me thinks it may be selective via a way of trapping moisture like a sponge to aid in cooling.
  25. In the case of chest compressions, you have perfusion in the CNS, heart, and some organs. Its low oxygenated blood but its still giving your brain something...2 hours without ventilation is just too long though. There have been cases where a person that had a severe heart attack to the point where there is just no muscle left to save, will open there eyes and be capable of small movement while there chest is being pounded (this happens more these days with the very efficient mechanical cpr called Autopulse). Its gotta be absoultly hearbreakig to see, and eventually they have to be let go. In the case of death, dead dead with the sheet over there head. NO, brain cells die within 4-8 minutes of being deprived of oxygen. Hypothetically with nanites in the future, who knows what would be recoverable. People have been known to pull out from probably longer in the case of hypothermia or cold-water submersion. This is a special physiological circumstance.
