I don't know, but I do know what it's like to be hungry...

Maybe, we just replace the word happy with the word content...

Why god would want us to be happy?
Seems to me, it's more an example of meaning being taken out of context, bc we can't comprehend/understand the culture from which the god/wisdom is born.

Why god would want us to be happy?
Fair point.

Why god would want us to be happy?
It wasn't my claim, are you moving the goalposts? I'm not a theologian, I have no idea; my point isn't what a deity might look like to <insert ism>. In the context of this thread, and as an atheist, it's not god that wants us to be happy; it's a human, that thought it was a good idea to be nice to people, even when they're being arseholes. (edit. not a cryptic accusation of anyone) You're welcome...

Why god would want us to be happy?
Nor is history, but the patterns do match... If you're an atheist, you don't believe in god, therefore anything the bible said was not written by, or directly influenced by god. When did I say that? I'm just pointing out that a good argument doesn't include a mythical being...

How to kill a small animal to shorten its suffering?
It's a moral dilemma, but good animal husbandry includes an empathic connection to the animal and a philosophical understanding of the nature of death... And that's the fundamental difference, I have no understaning of a strange animals suffering or life goals...

Why god would want us to be happy?
My point is, any argument from an atheist that uses god, is a logical fallacy. What about it? Nope.
-
Why god would want us to be happy?
Seems more like the meaning is lost, as no god has ever directly written a word, citation needed; it seems to me that a metaphor needs a relative context more than it needs a god.

How to kill a small animal to shorten its suffering?
If the cat was a human, I'd hope you'd call an ambulance and thus transfer your decision to an expert, rather than commit murder; ethically it's dodgy ground, in terms of a cat... 😉

Before I get started on the stupidity of incarceration, what is the political point you want to make?

Tariffs inadvertently reduce carbon footprint?
If Trump is right, it's by accident. Just bc the markets 'sigh' in relief when it's not as bad as it imagined, doesn't mean it wouldn't be better off without such an idiotic idea/deal. Also, didn't the Isreali Palastinian conflict start after his first term?

Quantum Gravity ?
Thank you, for both, not assuming it was anything other than a genuine question and your answer. +1

Quantum Gravity ?
Just out of interest, how would this knowledge benefit our society?

Fractal Topology of Spacetime (speculation)
Even I know that's BS, the tick rate remains the same, it's space that changes to accommodate the fact...

Tariffs inadvertently reduce carbon footprint?
So many clever people explaining how stupid he is, and he is stupid, but we can't dismiss his position on the pole. So we, the people, try to rationalise our various excuses for not killing the prick, the first time round... 😇

Tariffs inadvertently reduce carbon footprint?
It's kind of what Nietzche was trying to say in his, parable of a madman.

Tariffs inadvertently reduce carbon footprint?
It's nuanced from start to finish, it's a brave new world. First we get money and the idea of a fair exchange, then we get the climbers who use both, fear of the future and hope in the future, in order to tip the scales ever so slightly in their favour (your classic casino gambit) and so on and so on... Eventually we get Trumpism, a narcissism so advanced that it doesn't care if the 99% even exists. Now and then we need a savage to say "let's calm down and read a bit of Shakespeare to get some perspective.

Tariffs inadvertently reduce carbon footprint?
Yes, it may sound counterintuitive, but most of what the wealthy/powerful elite's do is try to make us fear the consequences of them taking away their money/power. We're supposed to sit in the gutter and await all the riches, that 'will' trickle down. 🙄 If we all stop giving a shit and learn how to survive in the gutter, we take away their superpower, basically the emperors new clothes.
