  1. Indeed, but what happens when you've got a fist full of money and no-one wants to sell you an apple?
  2. I'm not responsible for your understanding, I can only point the way...
  3. when did it become your job, to point that out?
  4. I'm just asking question's, that you can't or won't answer; kinda textbook... 🙄
  5. You don't see the irony do you? (You're soo not suited to philosophy) A physicist knows exactly how a car work's, from the engine to the tyre's he/she has all the latest facts, but he/she doesn't understand how to repair it; if it stops working, you need a mechanic. But you're neither, and yet your happy to jump in and, inexpertly, prize the splinter from my eye; didn't Jesus say something similar???
  6. A negotiation is essentially a battle of words, and to use an analogy, if you drop a big stick on the battlefield, even if you meant it as a walking stick, don't be surprised that the opponent is using it to beat you about the head. The context of this thread is very simple, the worker's by and large just want enough money to feed and shelter their family, with enough left over for a splurge on the weekend. The owners/government can afford to meet their need's, but they forget (are blind too) the symbiotic nature of an economy, in favour of the latest superyacht/toy. Language is the weapon of choice in this battlefield, it's a glorious lever to prize the slightly inconvenienced into righteous soldier's.
  7. Indeed, but some people need to be taught how to build a wall; before they understand the value of a brick... 😉
  8. Stalin hid himself away, when Hitler invaded, thinking his general's would 'out him' for the coward he knew himself to be; no-one is better placed to punish than oneself, besides how can you possibly know that "It never hurt him"; I know it's a bit of a stretch for you, because you're "Mr Jack"... This is what I mean, you assume modern thinking is superior because we have smartphones, which is ironic because 'we' have no idea how it work's... 🤔🧐😉🙄 Hmmm, a little humilty wouldn't go amiss, if you're aiming to learn something... I'll ask again, "Can you explain PTSD in a way that doesn't validate his premise?"
  9. There's a few thing's wrong with this (in no particular order): 1/ You seem to stop reading/thinking when you read the trigger word God/soul, not a very scientific approach to reason. 2/ As @Peterkin points out, Socrates didn't write any of his teachings down, so it's impossible to know what he meant by immortal soul: Either he thought it was literally true or it was a metaphor to enrich his pupil's understanding; I know which one I'd bet on. 3/ Why does it matter if God or the soul exists or not, in the light of the basic premise; any damage you do to society, you do to yourself. I'd like to know why you think you're more enlightened, by a scientist you don't understand, rather than a priest you don't understand?
  10. Are you sure? to aim an attack at someone or something... Is not the same as to aim to avoid an attack, from someone who target's you...
  11. My mistake, you clearly meant target to mean aim... 🙄 Maybe you can explain the difference, in the context of this thread...
  12. Socrates thought his soul was immortal, (something Descarte tried to prove) he also thought that any damage he did to other's, damaged his soul; so he took the poison voluntarily, so as not to force other's to damage their soul's. Maybe you can use the scientific method to prove him wrong; not the soul, that's impossible, but damaging other's for peronal gain is in the scientific realm, perhaps you can explain PTSD in a way that doesn't validate his premise...
  13. I agree, but it's not so obvious too, everyone; sometimes 'big' is the word they object to...
  14. Depends on your perspective...
  15. mistermack doesn't have too, therefore he couldn't care less what 'they' do; so don't hold your breath waiting for a considered answer...
  16. Are you sure? Word's matter, sometimes it's almost imperceptible, but there's a difference between target and aim...
  17. Well I am certainly wiser than this man. It is only too likely that neither of us has any knowledge to boast of; but he thinks that he knows something which he does not know, whereas I am quite conscious of my ignorance. At any rate it seems that I am wiser than he is to this small extent, that I do not think that I know what I do not know. - Socrates (the famous post modeern rap artist) Serenity, regularity, absence of vanity,Sincerity, simplicity, veracity, equanimity, Fixity, non-irritability, adaptability, Humility, tenacity, integrity, nobility, magnanimity, charity, generosity, purity. Practise daily these eighteen "ities" You will soon attain immortality. - Socrates
  18. I wonder if the next dominant lifeform on Earth will evolve from plastic eating bacteria... 🤔 😉 The most enlightened mind would describe it thusly...
  19. No, it's not exactly what you said, but it is the language you used. It's never a problem, if it's not happening to you 'Mr Jack'. The unions don't have a target, they have an aim; to maintain, at least, or improve the rights of their workers. I wonder how many people would choose not to strike...
  20. No, I'm talking about bin men, nurse's and farmer's; what arseholes are you talking about? And how do they function?
  21. This is exactly the propaganda the tory government/fat cat's want you to swallow; they're targeting the poor old companies, who do their best to pay everyone a fair wage, by which they mean, it's unfair to take away my pastry chef, so the worker's can afford a packet of bourbon's. One day they'll understand the value of a bin man...
  22. And round we go...
  23. One day we'll find out...
  24. I'd like to see a living wage for the essential workers, but that ain't gonna happen while you're alright Jack, with your big stick...
