I’m sorry that happened to your family. I’m grateful you reminded us here some of what’s possible when we abandon vigilance and humanistic values.
  2. Sampling bias. Confirmation bias. Judgmental derogatory bias… all wrapped neatly in claims regarding dark ages
  3. Not blaming others is important, but other steps in addition to that are required to exit the rut you mentioned. Also known as: How time itself seems to work … we have no choice to do otherwise

    And its resisters.
  5. Technically, all of the woe is generated from within you. That gives you tremendous power. It means you are also capable of stopping the woe. Life doesn’t just happen to you. It’s created by you. Choose what story you wish to tell yourself. You’re the author, not the audience. That is certainly necessary, but insufficient.

Much as the OP did (and IIRC has done in the past)
  7. We all appear to be wired that way. It’s our default, and it takes continuous recurring inputs of effort and energy to overcome it in any meaningful way https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/negativity-bias#
  8. Stop blaming others for choices you have made and begin instead making better choices.
  9. Only 5 posts allowed on day 1. Fine after. Spammers suck. This protocol helps minimize the annoyance they create.

Wasn’t me, but rather likely related to calling Hitler a gentle soul in comparison to the modern ultra right Israeli leadership. That’s hyperbolic in the extreme and suggests a deep lack of moderation and measure in one’s tone…even though the current cabal under Bibi is hardly acting in ways I can support.
  11. MBS, Putin, Xi… or a hundred others are taking steps like this S part of the new standard operating procedure

Assume that you’ll still need to work for a big company. Being a PhD isn’t some magic recipe to doing whatever you want for the rest of your life. Funding is hard to come by, and you’re much more likely to find work of some sort in the private sector despite all those years of study.

I’d considered this when posting, but decided the issue was sufficiently lopsided to allow me to make a quick poke. I don’t disagree, though
  14. Neither of these
  15. One obstacle is that the system requires changes which can only be implemented by those currently benefiting the most from the current state of that system.
  16. The bat signal needs a bulb replacement
  17. Sounds more like 1984 than 2010
  18. You sound a bit like a fascist authoritarian. Was that your intent? https://www.investopedia.com/terms/w/wisdom-crowds.asp
  19. Can an amputee manifest their body to grow a new leg?
  20. I’m all in favor of an informed electorate, as well as growing the number of informed critical thinkers more broadly. Allowing partisan hacks with private funding overlords to arbitrarily set thresholds which prevent “lesser informed” citizens from voting, however, I not only do NOT support, but actively oppose.
  21. Not all posts come from human authors

Audit trails on bank data updates are hardcore and deeply enforced given international laws. Will likely fix itself within 48 hours if not sooner. If you call customer service, however, expect to be on hold 20 minutes only to reach a poorly trained contractor reading a script who won’t be able to help anyway.
