Why do we fight for freedom?
That's a mighty big assumption, and you know what they say about people who assume... asses, you's, and me's... Studies seem to suggest we gain more joy from the anticipation of the event or trip or vacation (from the "hoping" and "planning" and "considering in advance") than we gain from the experience itself (the winning and the doing/going, etc.). It stands to reason that thinking of freedom and considering all the myriad ways we're already free may bring greater wellbeing than the freedom itself. The underlying concept is described as anticipatory joy. It's like a forward looking rumination, but with a positive emotional valance.

Why do we fight for freedom?
You assume we "know we can't have" freedom, and I reject that as specious to the point of defeatism. Hope springs eternal

Evidence of NO design
Even if one assumes design, this question remains. How was the designer developed? If you can assume a "designer" just is, why not assume the same thing for the universe itself? It involves fewer variables and therefore has fewer assumptions / is more likely to be correct. It's turtles all the way down.

Why do we fight for freedom?
Who says we don't fight for it? Do we not understand what it means and feels like for us personally? Regardless of these answers, it's an issue of values and self-identity. Like terminates constructing a nest or huge mound, we shape the world around us in accordance with our genetic predispositions and needs of the society around us. Just because not all "nests" and "mounds" are physical, tangible, or visible (freedom and love still exist as concepts even though I cannot touch and feel them, after all), that doesn't mean that we as biological organisms aren't still striving toward those shapes, patterns, and outcomes in our day to day behaviors. We "fight" for freedom for the same reason we "fight" for food and shelter, it's just at a different layer of the hierarchy proposed by Maslow.

Electric vehicles : A new cost.

Electric vehicles : A new cost.
It’s not an EV specific phenomenon, but a cross industry upward trend in insurance rates across regions (tied to inflation and supply limitations). Focusing on EVs specifically is more BS propaganda. This example from the US is similar to what’s being encountered across many parts of the world also struggling with inflationary pressure and supply chain friction)

Hamas attacks Israel with kit rockets and AK47's... US sends aircraft carrier in support.
Lebanon/ Hezbollah already weighing in, too. Cue MBS form Saudi Arabia to swoop in as newly appointed regional power center and make a deal, quiet all parties, and position selfs as place where cooler financially minded heads prevail. Still watching China and Taiwan, too… Easier to pull shenanigans when everyone’s distracted. Also watching impact from lack of GOP House Speaker preventing ability of US Congress to approve funding for help, and how it impacts new Speaker vote.

Evidence Of Design
People have been saying this for millenia and have been wrong every single time, but I'm SURE you're the exception!! A distinction without a difference. The human mind imposes patterns even where they don't actually exist. You're here arguing that the shape in the clouds is a real animal, and then further calling us the childish ones. You are free to believe any stupid silly thing you want, and we will support your freedom to do so, but when you boil all this down the ONLY thing you have to support your belief is faith, and that's not good enough for a critically thinking mind. The funny part is that you agree with me when it comes to all of the other gods invented by humans and laying dead in the graveyard of our mythologies. You agree with me when it comes to silly claims about tooth fairies and dragons and purple unicorns... but in a stroke of special pleading, hypocrisy, and (YES) confirmation bias, you seem to think your own personally preferred flavor of deity is somehow exempt and unique from equal criticisms. If your faith were truly so strong, you wouldn't care whether others share it with you. Instead, your faith is weak and you're overcompensating by trying to evangelize to us. Good luck with that. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

McCarthy out... what next?
The Speaker pro tempore, who is now de facto in charge of the House despite not being voted into such an important role only below VP in terms of taking over the presidency in an emergency, has mandated that Nancy Pelosi’s staff clear ALL of her belongings from the large office from which she’s worked for years… and to do so immediately so this temporary paper tiger can use it for themselves and post selfies on their socials with their shoes up on the desk. https://www.npr.org/2023/10/04/1203566052/pelosi-office-patrick-mchenry-speaker And also in their own heavily gerrymandered districts. The elected officials act this way because they can and there’s practically zero risk of losing their seats regardless of how heinously they act bc they’ve redrawn the voting maps and gamed the entire system for raw power in place of prudence and good governance. Perhaps since the GOP majority is so razor thin, a few moderate paleo republicans might get peeled off and support Minority Leader Jeffries from the Democratic side. Lol. I know. Snowballs chance in hell, but fun to speculate

He was appointed for 10 days, but when counted from his official start date only held it for 6… Captcha was also confused. At least Pelosi could count
-
Political Humor
I think it’s 45 (9 months for McCarthy / 6 days for Scaramucci), but counting is a job for Speaker and we no longer have one so it’s probably moot. 😂

That's what she said- Is AI threatening the last job I had before retirement?
This is partially why I referenced self-driving cars. The AI must understand whether the person walking will dart out in front of the vehicle, or if the barking dog will cross the path, or tens of thousands of other "random stupid shit people do" while out and about... the algorithm predicts behaviors. Unsure why with a bit of tuning and training folks don't think it could do the same in terms of learning scuba and monitoring biosigns of newbies. (I acknowledge I'm probably a bit more #techbro on this than others... where I think all of these challenges are more solvable than not)- Has anyone studied at Tech?
On another note, watching posts 1 and 3 all queued up like that remind me of an Abbott and Costello routine- Where to live (Hijack from Evaporative Coolers Vs A/C Cost Effectiveness)
