Assume that you’ll still need to work for a big company. Being a PhD isn’t some magic recipe to doing whatever you want for the rest of your life. Funding is hard to come by, and you’re much more likely to find work of some sort in the private sector despite all those years of study.

I’d considered this when posting, but decided the issue was sufficiently lopsided to allow me to make a quick poke. I don’t disagree, though
  4. Neither of these
  5. One obstacle is that the system requires changes which can only be implemented by those currently benefiting the most from the current state of that system.
  6. The bat signal needs a bulb replacement
  7. Sounds more like 1984 than 2010
  8. You sound a bit like a fascist authoritarian. Was that your intent? https://www.investopedia.com/terms/w/wisdom-crowds.asp
  9. Can an amputee manifest their body to grow a new leg?
  10. I’m all in favor of an informed electorate, as well as growing the number of informed critical thinkers more broadly. Allowing partisan hacks with private funding overlords to arbitrarily set thresholds which prevent “lesser informed” citizens from voting, however, I not only do NOT support, but actively oppose.

Audit trails on bank data updates are hardcore and deeply enforced given international laws. Will likely fix itself within 48 hours if not sooner. If you call customer service, however, expect to be on hold 20 minutes only to reach a poorly trained contractor reading a script who won’t be able to help anyway.

  15. Take the airbags, shatterproof glass, seatbelts, and antilock brakes from the car… you might survive the crash… but the odds of survival are far better when those buffers remain. Time for better vertical farming and focused hydroponics.
  16. Whether the sample dataset is representative of the population being described plays a sizable role, too. Selection of the source data and how that’s accomplished. What feeds it largely dictates what it poops out.
  17. Biologists tend to realize that any category we invent will be imperfect and nearly always will have exceptions. They are open to interpretation and often if you ask 10 different people what is a species or subspecies you’ll get 10 different answers. The categories are not rigid and are only applied if and when they useful to whatever outcome we’re trying to achieve, but it’s not exactly like Mach 1 where you know that if you accelerate just 1 more mph then THAT is when you’ll break the sound barrier. https://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolution-101/speciation/defining-a-species/
  18. Completely unacceptable. How dare you be human, or worse still, only as good as ChatGPT!

When you were young? Lol. That was still true a dozen years ago when you were 60. Replace “people” with “most trump supporters” and we agree. Also DeSantis and Ramaswamy, FWIW And whomever fits those criteria now across regions outside of the US. Always and in all places people have both progressed and retarded our culture. It matters what we stand for. What we stand UP for. And what we stand against.

  21. Why stop there? Feed them kelp. We all evolved from fish, after all.
  22. Yep. Exactly. It’s so nice being understood. /snark
  23. Balance restored
  24. Not all dog foods are the same, but essentially all have meat. All you’re proposing is subtracting balance from a diet, not improving it.
