  1. Save a step. Start drawing on the wood you plan to carve. Then get better at it by starting to carve and draw more as you go. Frame the process in your mind as a slow meditative way to create wood shavings and sawdust so every cut becomes a success (instead of trying to be immediately Michelangelo and achieve the statue of David or Mona Lisa on attempt #1).
  2. Eco terrorism might make you feel better, but future generations would benefit far more from large scale infrastructure investments and adaptation, from the election of leaders who generate consensus around funding that a priority.
  3. Thank goodness DJT will soon take office and truly hold Putins feet to the fire /sarcasm

What if god never existed anywhere outside of our imaginations
  5. No worries. Just don’t let it happen again.
  6. You’re not rude, just irrelevant and dismissible
  7. There might be parts of our cosmos which cannot be confirmed with evidence, but for now there’s no evidence of this so it can be safely ignored.
  8. One possible counterpoint: The US for several years now has been telling Ukraine they CANNOT use US-supplied weapons inside of Russia for fear of provoking nuclear response.
  9. This is perhaps a false dichotomy. It can be and IMO has been both. Putin has repeatedly suggested nuclear responses are being actively considered since his illegal incursion into Ukraine. This is on top of having his troops take control of nuclear power facilities and threatening to allow meltdowns.
  10. An even greater chance after January 20
  11. You should include something which looks at the last 20 years. George Bush was just starting his second term in 2005
  12. If you go far enough, Russia is also west of Europe. Your thesis is ridiculous
  13. And they've decided, by secret vote, to do exactly that https://abcnews.go.com/US/house-ethics-committee-expected-release-gaetz-report-sources/story?id=116044985
  14. Absurd Also absurd The only thing it’s missing is invisible unicorns stealing gold from leprechauns
  15. I don’t believe blike owns the site and tend to think of the arrangement more like renting / leasing (aka disallowed from changing any of the plumbing)
  16. If the election was stolen, it likely happened through TikTok not ballot stuffing and bomb threats. The voters minds are being hacked and leading them to “voluntarily” cast their votes a certain way. Russia did this to Ukraine elections a few years ago, very likely had significant influence on American voters this election, and in fact Romania just annulled their election due to Russian interference through TikTok. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/thousands-attend-pro-european-rally-romania-ahead-presidential-run-off-vote-2024-12-06/ I’m sure that I’m not the only one who finds plausible the idea that Russia quite likely did exactly this to help get their useful idiot friend Trump reelected in the US, too. “Outgoing Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said the annulment was "the only correct solution after the declassification of the documents... which show that the result of the Romanians' vote was blatantly distorted as a result of Russia's intervention. <…> “This is one piece of a long-running, systematic, quite intentional program for Russia to reestablish control over what it calls its ‘near abroad,’” Paul Kolbe, a former senior CIA Intelligence Officer, previously said to The Cipher Brief.“
  17. Caveat: It’s unrelated to the page here or to the volunteer staff moderating SFN, but… The ads payout based on total number of clicks. Their aggressiveness and tendency to filibuster the entire screen results in lots and lots of accidental clicks from people annoyed and trying to close them quickly. More clicks, whether accidental or intentional, result in bigger paychecks when the compensation is structured based on click rate.
  18. Trump already replaced his White House lawyer. Also today his pick for DEA withdrew from consideration. My previous mention of Hegseth seems likely to be announced within the next 24-48 hours and the chatter suggests his primary opponent Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may be the SecDef replacement nominee (or Iowas Senator Joni Ernst).
  19. But he will be before any investigation could find traction. By their nature, they take time. Maybe someone will investigate him in congress. Jamie Raskin comes to mind. I’m just not optimistic. Trump’s already beaten 2 impeachments, been convicted of 34 felonies, charged with national security crimes, described as unfit and dangerous by his former top aides and scores of people close to him, and yet here we are with him winning a second term and installing corrupt cronies to control the levers of power.
  20. Don’t be so sure. Most people are working from a 2 year old perception of models that get logarithmically better by the hour, and now models can even fix edit and improve their own code. We’re basically monkeys with iPhones, mostly hairless apes getting fooled by mental heuristics that were previously useful in the savannas but which clearly aren’t well adapted nor suited for handling modern technology and info-cultural ecosystems.
  21. You’re not wrong, but that’s a different topic
  22. By who? Trump is in charge of the executive branch that does the investigations. He is installing completely subservient lackeys and cronies to head DoJ and FBI. He’s stacked the courts with favorable judges, including at the appellate levels. As a purely practical matter, given that republicans also won control of both houses of Congress, logistically who would own or drive (or even have authority to conduct) such an investigation? Maybe we can get Matlock on the case, or Perry Mason? Perhaps Columbo or the Hardy Boys?
