  1. I share your disappointment. My state won’t even allow the school to mandate masks. And parents are thanking them for it. Because masks are child abuse. And freedom! Or something.
  2. And it’s even worse in Iowa than in Alabama (which was the focus in your link) Again, agree completely. National borders and archaic tribal tendencies, however, mean few (if any) counties are currently coordinating in this way. Your strategy is good, but it lacks a coherent mechanism for getting it operational IMO. The WHO and UN have no authority to force sovereign countries to proceed in this manner, nor are countries volunteering to do so by choice.
  3. The history of Afghanistan is one where hedging bets is important. Most often within a single family, one brother would fight for one side while the other brother would fight for the other… just to cover their bets. It’s unrealistic in my opinion to expect a few years (like 5) of insurrection and crowd control training from the US military to alter that basic fact of their culture that’s existed for hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of years.
  4. To be clear, we’re in violent agreement around the logic of this one. We need the whole world vaccinated or we all suffer collectively. No quarrel. I’ve also watched politics and economics long enough to know that avoiding a 3rd shot booster in the US isn’t going to magically send extra doses to those areas most in need of their 1st. Those countries are lacking shot number 1 due to issues unrelated to the US deciding to offer shot #3 to its citizens (damned near half of whom haven’t even bothered taking shot 1 despite the absolute lack of cost, complexity, or obstacle in doing so). I also want the world vaccinated. I don’t think lack of vaccine supply is the driver of it not happening. I’m essentially struggling with the idea that boosters in the US are the primary barrier to achieving that global vaccination we both agree is desperately needed, especially given all of the vaccines being produced in China, Russia, and elsewhere.
  5. What’s the evidence that doses already bought and paid for by the US would be shipped to other countries if not used for dose #3 on US citizens? The US has already sent 110 Million doses to other countries and committed to providing 600 Million (over half a billion) doses to the world. That’s quite a bit more than every single other country… combined. Is the suggestion here that this number would automatically inflate to 700 Million if we had instead decided to wait on boosters… and that this would meaningfully alter the outcome?
  6. Those levels don’t remain as high for as long, though. The healing happens quicker ergo less spread
  7. We understand you’re talking nonsense. Little more is needed than to explain why it’s patently absurd, being argued in bad faith, and move on.
  8. Was there another software update recently? The UI feels a bit different. Could maybe be just a recent change in config settings though, I suppose.
  9. Looking around society these days, it's safe to say some need this more than others.
  10. It’s PR. They need to show the most positive face to the rest of the world. They’re saying what we want/need to hear. However, it’s still just words. Actions will speak louder.
  11. A worthy clarification
  12. Wireless charging from the roads themselves. I support this
  13. No, the smell isn’t indicative of harmful chemicals in the air. If charred material is there, it will smell of char. It’s a bit like taking a charcoal bbq back into your place after cooking with it outside. It’s not dangerous, just stinky.
  14. It doesn’t matter. Your question’s been answered. You can decide which folder to host the discussion in when you manage and moderate your own site, but at SFN that too has already been answered.
  15. Wow... autocorrect totally destroyed my post above. Sorry all. lol One particularly hard part to watch in all of this is what will happen to women and anyone who supported the US these past 20 years.
  16. I LOVE this!! My wife has been talking about me building one for our kids, but it’s been intimidating me a bit as a project so I’m dragging my feet. Seeing one done like this and so cleanly makes me think it’s totally doable. Really nice job guys! Did you attach it to the back wall in any way, or is it fully supported by the A-frame (for lack of a better word)?
  17. That the US is leaving doesn’t bother me, especially since it’s happening 4 months later than Trump announced and should I’ve been done 15+ years ago anyway. What’s surprising is how badly and consistently Afghan forces who’ve been trained and swilled are failing to hold the line. I heard about Ghani fleeing 12 hours ago. It’s telling, surprising it happened so rapidly, not sunrising it happened. The US lost this war. There’s simply no graceful way to lose a war.
  18. As much as I hate to agree with you, I do. I wish you well in your various travels, good sir knight.
  19. Yep. That’s it. You got me there.
  20. For reasons similar to why folks keep banging on about attracting more flies with honey instead of vinegar when the vinegar will definitely attract more flies than the honey does.
  21. Precision of language in science is critical to conveying accurate information and driving clear understanding. That one, however, must be used incredibly sparingly to ensure the parts we all love most about this community don’t degrade too quickly.
  22. Summarized: vaccinations needed to reach herd immunity is based on ease of spread. How easy a virus can spread dictates how many people must be vaccinated to reach heed immunity. Now that Covid’s grandkid is spreading more easily (and also still evolving… see also lambda variant) all at the same time that [str]people[/str] fucking morons still refuse to vaccinate (and poorer countries simply can’t afford to) means reaching herd immunity is now all but impossible.
