  1. I really do not think that you can make the statement that women are attracted to "bad boys". First evolutionary psychology seeks to use natural selection to show why something would happen. Assuming that the overall goal of the human species is to reproduce, why would women prefer someone who is violent and that will more than likely end up in jail. To me it makes no sense how a mate being jailed and isolated away from their partner and offspring would help that offspring survive which is the overall goal of the human race. My second problem is that I am not sure what you are defining as a "Bad Boy"? Without a stringent definition of this I find it hard to completely review your ideas. I feel that a more proper statement about mating preferences would be that women prefer a mate who is "mature, healthy-looking, and affluent" as these are all traits which would help a offspring survive. This statement seems to be in line with current research. There is also research which suggest that "women find men with potential for a long term relationship and a interest in their offspring". (Meyers, David) Someone who is heading towards jail does not seem to have to much potential for a long term relationship. Meyers, David. "Exploring Psychology in Modules 7th Ed." Worth Publishers, 2008.
  2. I do think that President Obama will try and be a consensus builder but I am not sure that house and senatorial democrats will be so compromising.
  3. That PC does take a long time to load but of course it does have quite a bit more information to retrieve. I could never imagine having to constantly switch disks like that.
  4. I am happy that it is shut down and that the detainees will finally stand trial. But I feel like there might be a fight when it comes time to decide were to detain these prisoners as I don't see any people wanting them near them.
  5. If it is a binomial distribution then: [math]\mu=np[/math] [math]\sigma=(np(1-p))^{2}[/math] so [math]\sigma=(\mu(1-p))^{2}[/math] and in a normal distribution the medians is equal to the mean so you should be able to relate the two. Hope this helped.
  6. So now that George Bush has departed the office of president and the inauguration mania has claimed down, I am wondering how people would grade Bush's Administration and where would you rank him in the list of all the presidents. Here are a few categories I can think of. Domestic Affairs: C+ -Education: B -I feel that No Child Left Behind although somewhat flawed was a large step in the right direction. -Economy: D+ -Although the economy has faced a huge collapse over last few months the problems with the economy where begun before Bush's tenure so he does not completely fail. -Other: C -George Bush was able to rally and unity a nation after the devastating attacks on 9/11. Yet he was unable to guide the nation through hurricane Katrina. International Affairs: B -Relations with China: C -Not horrible relations with China but things could have been better. -Relations with Russia: B+ -Bush seem to work fairly well with Russia and was able to avoid hostilities over the plan to deploy missiles in Eastern Europe. -War on Terrorism: A- -Despite the not having captured Osama Bin Laden we have not been attack on American soil since the implementation of his new plan. -War in Iraq: C+ -The beginning the war was mismanaged yet the surge has seemed to work. -World Standing: D -Not much to say except that the world have a lower image of us now. -Other: A- -The Bush Administration did a lot to help fight AIDS and other diseases in Africa and also had a excellent response to the Tsunami. In my opinion Bush ranks right in the middle of all presidents. He had by no means a excellent presidency yet by no means the worse.

I got 11 which is almost in the low section.
  8. Although I do not agree with everything said in the speech and am not a fan of the huge amount of money being spent on the celebration to day, I do hope that President Obama does a great job because I believe that we are facing a pivotal time in America's history. Wonderful speech though very charismatic and moving. Did anyone else see Chief Justice Roberts stumble over the oath, that just made me laugh.
  9. I like the pick ecspecailly because he is from Michigan.
  10. I was under the impresion that the universe was flat, "The simplest version of the inflationary theory, an extension of the Big Bang theory, predicts that the density of the universe is very close to the critical density, and that the geometry of the universe is flat, like a sheet of paper. That is the result confirmed by the WMAP science." http://map.gsfc.nasa.gov/universe/uni_shape.html
  11. I never thought that he would even consider legalizing marijuana at least not publicly. The answers seem very general and non-specific. I am disappointed that he would not give specifics on how he would achieve his goals.
  12. My name simply comes from the first letter of my first name and middle name and my last name.
  13. I think that john's point was that their are reason other than scientific reasons like moral reasons such as consent when discussing issues such as cousin marriage.
  14. I feel that the production of a trillion dollars worth of barbies would require a large amount of production equipment to be produced in order to make the barbies. If you make a trillion dollars of machine tools you need to have some sort of product to produce with these machine tools or the investment in the machine tools would be pointless. In my opinion the demand for goods and the production of these goods is intertwined with the investment of production equipment. You would not have an investment in one without a demand for the other. As for FDR's policies in my opinion his policies helped shorten the Great Depression but only slightly. Also it was not his economic policies that influenced the depression but was more the confidence he restored in people. Before FDR there was a general feeling of mistrust for the banks and government but with the steps FDR took to stabilize the banks such as, declaring a bank holiday and establishing the FDIC along with his ability to make people feel like he cared for them and would make sure they prospered, he was able to renew America's trust in the banking system and government. This trust in my opinion is the most important consequence of FDR's New Deal.
  15. In my opinion until children are old enough to chose for themselves whether they wish to follow a religion their parents should be unable to refuse reasonable life saving medicine. Until a child reaches the age, lets say 14, their parents should not be able to refuse medical treatment, such as blood transfusions or similar procedures that are common. To withhold treatment from a child resulting in their death is completely wrong and the parents involved should be tried for abuse or negligence.
  16. Just a question can Congress seat Franken even if the Secretary of State is unable to certify the results because Coleman challenges to the Supreme Court?
  17. Social scientist might beg to differ. According to sociologist John J. Macionis, "Because family ties define people's rights and obligations toward one another, reproduction between close relatives would hopelessly confuse kinship." Which makes sense that if my aunt became my mother in law and my uncle my father in law the relationship and the expected interactions between our families would be confused. If I then had a kid would my uncle be their grandfather or their second uncle. The roles played by a grandparent are incredible different than those played by a second uncle/aunt. The confusion caused by the role conflict would possible destabilize our social structure.

  19. Your next subtraction would be [math]2-1=1[/math] but because you do not have another subtraction to preform at the fourth level you cannot be sure that it is quartic or not. If you had more points then you would be able to see if you actually did get a constant difference at the quartic level. When I do the work I find a equation of [math]f(x)=2x^{2}+4x+3 if you plug your points back in: [math] (2)(1)+(4)(1)+3=9[/math] [math] (2)(2^{2})+(4)(2)+3=19 [/math] [math] (2)(3^{2})+(4)(3)+3=33 [/math] [math] (2)(4^{2})+(4)(4)+3=51 [/math] So for your four points the equation is an exact model. Although any point that you did not include in fitting the equation might not be an exact match. This is why when doing this you want to take points that are far apart.
  20. The method I always use is to (to find polynomial models): -First find the degree by subtracting the y terms like given the points: [math]{(2,4) (3,9) (4,16) (5,25) (6,36)}[/math] [math]9-4=5, 16-9=7, 25-16=9, 36-25=11[/math] [math]5-7=-2, 7-9=-2, 9-11=-2[/math] Yes I know this is obvious but it was an quick example. The degree is the number of subtractions needed to find a constant difference. Like in the example above it is a second degree polynomial. 1 subtraction- Linear 2 Subtractions- Quadratic 3 Subtractions- Cubic Once I have decided the degree I plug the x values into the general form of that equation: [math]Ax^{2}+Bx+C[/math] [math]A2^{2}+2B+C=4=4A+2B+C=4[/math] [math]9A+3B+C=9[/math] [math]16A+4B+C=16[/math] Once I have these equations I put them into matrices and solve. Sorry I did not show the matrix work but I can't get the text to work. But this is how I fit polynomials to a set of data.
  21. "StopAlcoholAbuse.Gov is a comprehensive portal of Federal resources for information on underage drinking...On behalf of ICCPUD, SAMHSA maintains this Web site" So I guess that it is part of a program The Health and Human Services runs which gives it the right to be listed under the .gov domain. As for the faith based part it appears that they are not promoting any specific denomination and so I am fine with them promoting a support structure containing a faith-based organization.
  22. Congrats. Capn' your contributions are numerous and awesome.
  23. I find this also some what funny because it is the rules committee, at least in the house, that sets the timeline for debates on bills. I agree that a majority of congress might have not fully reviewed the bill but this was because, at least in the house, there upper elected leadership pushed for such a quick time table for the bill.
  24. I am not sure about medicinal chemistry in particular but I have attached links to the US New and World Reports rankings for graduate schools in pharmancy and chemistry.
