  1. Without trying to nitpick, which definition of God are you thinking of that science could observe and test?
  2. This is not my definition of God! I'm narrowing it to it's fundamental level to show you, VERY SIMPLY, why ID is NOT a science. Can you give me ANY example of a god that can be observed, tested and falsified? Because that is what science asks of ALL theories.
  3. As long as you're part of Earth's atmosphere you're going to rotate with it. You would hover for an hour and come back to Earth more or less in the same spot unless your jump took you outside the atmosphere. The Earth would not rotate out from under you.
  4. She sounds like Howard Stern. People who like Howard listen to him for soemthing like 23 minutes per day, people who hate Howard listen to him for something like 3.5 hours per day. When asked it's because they are waiting to hear what stupid thing he's going to say next.
  5. What you're saying here is that God can be proven if he ever shows up and sticks around long enough to be studied. Duh! God / gods are defined by their absence from affairs of mortals except through "mysterious ways" and allegedly answered prayers and background machinations. They ask worshippers to have faith in their existence. You blew me off the last time I mentioned faith but you should consider that it is this faith that means God / gods are DEFINED by their unobservability. Therefore, any *theory* which includes a God / gods as an intelligent designer CAN NOT be a scientific one, due to the lack of predictability and observation. Do you see? ID will NEVER be an accepted scientific theory until it is so fundamentally changed that you really can't even call it ID anymore. And by the way, your spell checker missed that "under vary certain circumstances" should be very, not vary. I point this out since I know you're very concerned about everyone's spelling.
  6. I have two friends, one a vegan (and a complete stick) and one who wanted to try Veganja to lose some weight. It was horrible for her! Her complexion was always pale, she had no energy, it just didn't work for her. Her doctor? told her she was the wrong blood type to be a vegetarian (she is type O). Anyone heard of matching diet to blood type or is this junk medicine? You told someone not to get "techy" and I pictured Mal immediately. I have all the episodes + Serenity. I hate Fox a whole bunch!
  7. Do you "see" God' date=' any god? Isn't the idea of a god working behind the scenes and not revealing Himself to mankind a large part of the major religions? Isn't belief without proof what faith is all about? Doesn't it invalidate faith if God is observable? For the purposes of this discussion, we're not using *my* definition of God, we're using ID's version of God as a director of physical forces, a supernatural being who is necessary because an undirected process such as natural selection is unscientific with regards to ID "science". I personally don't rule out a higher power who, within the framework of natural physics, can manipulate forces to a degree beyond our comprehension. Creating the earth in six days is not necessary for a being like this. To me, waiting patiently for evolution to take it's course is much more awe-inspiring. This tells me you have not truly understood nor studied what ID is all about. ID will NEVER become a credible theory because it's insistence on a supernatural "designer" can't be tested by experiment, do not generate any predictions, are not falsifiable and create no hypotheses of their own. ID would have to change COMPLETELY in order to be considered science. Again, *NOT* science! Ask the people at the Discovery Institute if they will leave God out of the equation. See what the response is. I understand you are saying to keep an open mind. The problem with ID is that it wants to be taught alongside regular science in public school classrooms *NOW*. It is based on the supernatural, which is not science. When it becomes *not* supernatural, it can be studied, experimented with, hypothesized and subjected to the rigors of scientific method by experts. Perhaps 100 years after that time it can be introduced to classrooms full of impressionable young students. Not before. Under *these* circumstances, you know, changing it's basic foundation and approach and everything, it might make a valid theory someday. Or not.
  8. Mmmmm... maglev trains... put science to work... no pollution, no hideous maintenance costs, no friction to wear things out, no DUIs....
  9. Gary Zukav was not including Intelligent Design in this assessment. This was *not* the message Mr. Zukav was trying to get across, and if that's what you came away with after reading The Dancing Wu Li Masters I feel sorry for you. Science should have no problems maintaining skepticism about whether or not a god is behind the physical principles we observe. It's when young earth creationism, masquerading as Intelligent Design, tries to supplant a miraculous designer in the place of a very credible and very observable process like evolution that scientists must put their collective foot down. ID is not another scientific opinion which deserves a place in public schools. It is religion and has it's place in church where students should feel free to examine it without it being muddied up with all that scientific evidence and stuff.
  10. I think people need to remember that everyone's metabolism is different, their culture, their preferences, their access to certain foods, it's all different. I think vegetarians are great! More meat for me.... You're gorram right about that!
  11. Run a forum search for mousetrap catapults and trebuchets.
  12. Planetary acne? Marzit?
  13. If you go to jail it's all Bill's bladder's fault. At least you have the smarts not to act outraged. I've heard so many people in similar straits raging against the police that they have nothing better to do than pick on harmless teenagers with, you know, weapons. "I *told* the cop we were just having some fun and weren't threatening anybody, but he still wouldn't believe me!" If I were you, I'd learn my lesson, do the mature thing and just put this incident behind me... after I Super Glued by brother's butt to a toilet seat.
  14. Oh, yeah? Well, you... you... UKes can't prove that with any degree of certainty.
  15. I remember a writer from the National Lampoon describing sex with a skinny fashion model as being "like riding an English bicycle down a set of railroad tracks, and you don't even get to honk the horn." Had to have been 20 years ago I read that but it stuck with me. British sex on a tractor reminded me of it again.
  16. Don't you mean, "The coolest peoples' [sic] birthedays [sic] are on May 13th"?
  17. I just noticed it's also 5614's birthday! My virtual gift to you is a 100GHz voive-activated wristwatch computer with a 500TB hard-drive, 10GB RAM, a retinal laser display, and a wireless satellite uplink (with extra monthly international long-distance minutes!). It only weighs 3 ounces but the user manual will need to be lifted into your backyard by crane!
  18. While I still believe it's more a combination of factors, I do agree with SkepticLance about the sedentary lifestyle. I think it's probably the largest factor in the equation. There's computers and stereos and home theatres and 500 channels of cable TV and video games and cell phones with video games to name a few. All of this is usually more interesting than walking around a neighborhood full of identical houses.
  19. You could almost forgive him if he didn't know what a true brain-teaser was, but it was all the gloating and "I can't believe no one's gotten it yet!" dung that sets my teeth on edge. I can't believe I let that go on for a month and three pages. He had a thread in the Mods forum almost from the day he arrived and none of us had a good feeling about him. We try to give people the benefit of the doubt but there's always people like him that make you want to just go on a banning warpath to save the membership months of drivel. I apologize for not being stricter, people.
  20. Lady of Pain, we adore you! (beheads accordion player) I thought it would be nice to start a thread so everyone can give you virtual gifts! Here's mine: a really cool leather Vertical Top Zip Backpack/Shoulder Bag for school. It features many cool compartments for books, supplies, handcuffs, lunch and a laptop, plus it's got a weighted bottom for swinging at the heads of inferior classmates who question the theory of evolution and a special zip-line garotte pulls right out of the shoulder strap to strangle students who's too-high hairdos block your view of cute professors.
  21. I don't ban people for wasting a month and three pages of thread time... much. theMaharajah was banned for opening up a second account to reply to all his old posts. The guy was a total troll.
