I acknowledge that lazy/inept people exist. I do not accept that we can generalize Trump voters as lazy/inept, which is where this line of discussion originated.

I don't know. In 1900 very few people attended high school. Does that mean there is pretty much a statistical certainty those people were lazy/inept? https://nces.ed.gov/blogs/nces/post/celebrating-150-years-of-education-data#:~:text=In 1900%2C relatively few students, were enrolled in postsecondary education.

A generalization is an inference based on the facts about a subset of the group. Do we actually have facts showing that part of the electorate is lazy/inept, thus rendering them unable to distinguish fact from fiction?
  4. zapatos replied to MSC's topic in Politics
Is that fact or wishful thinking?

If ALL people are too lazy/inept to distinguish fact from fiction then I would agree. Since not everyone is lazy/inept, facts do matter. It is not possible to target only that subset of people.

Of course facts matter, regardless of how a subset of the population views them. I can't believe anyone on this site would suggest otherwise.

You were told to quit lying or go away. You stated that you'll choose the option to go away rather than the option to quit lying. It's not rocket science.

Correct. Other than bragging rights, the drubbing is irrelevant now that the election is over. I see your point that the Democrats have a weak record, but my question remains. Where do the voters go when they feel like BOTH parties haven't been helping them? Don't you choose the party with the better record? Unless you are saying you believe the Republicans have the better record.
  9. Unless of course workers are also the people who buy things that have tariffs on them. Presumably when you go to the store you are not looking to pay the highest price you can find. Lower prices by one manufacturer force competitors to control costs or improve products to stay competitive. That is considered a good thing.

I'm unsure where Bernie is coming from. The Democrats address the issues of the working class, health care and wealth inequality much better than the Republicans do.

My take on the election is that it didn't matter who the Democratic candidate was, when they started, who endorsed them, the clarity of their message, etc. What mattered was that a majority of the voters wanted Trump. He was going to win no matter who or what the Democratic candidate was. Any message from the Democrat that would appeal to Trump voters would alienate Democratic voters. Trump represents what the majority of Americans have become, or more likely, always were.

LOL! It is rare when someone actually admits they are lying. Now we get to see if he is also lying about 'going away'.
  14. Hi back! May I ask who you are quoting?
  15. Yeah, I remember people talking about that in 2016.

  18. Have you ever noticed that some pieces of toast look like Jesus? I don't think "looks like" is enough to draw any conclusions about the possibility of toast performing miracles.
  19. Yes, that is what it means. No Republican candidate for President has won the majority of the popular vote in 20 years. Electoral votes come from states. If the majority of a state votes for the Republican, then the Republican gets ALL the electoral votes for that state (usually). For simplicity, imagine there are only three states with 100 citizens each. Of those 300 citizens, 175 vote for Harris and 125 vote for Trump. Each state gets one electoral vote because they each have the same number of citizens. Suppose: State A has 100 citizens voting for Harris. Harris wins the state and one electoral vote. State B has 40 citizens voting for Harris, 60 for Trump. Trump wins the state and one electoral vote. State C has 35 citizens voting for Harris, 65 for Trump. Trump wins the state and the one electoral vote. Result: Harris wins the popular vote, 175 to 125. Trump wins the electoral vote, 2 to 1. Trump is the next president.
  20. Why are hounds an important tool? Why must it be done efficiently? If that is your goal, then why not just poison them or drop grenades on them from helicopters? Surely there are more efficient means of killing animals than walking through the woods with dogs and rifles.
