  1. Pro Tip: As you appear to be new to posting on this site, the expectation here is that if you make a claim, you are expected to support it with links, documentation, etc. You cannot expect others to do your work for you.
  2. There are also additional threads with the same theme. I once contributed to one but it is not the one you linked to.
  3. You seem to be having issues following our conversation. Either that or you abhor having to acknowledge that you are not an expert on every topic under the sun and someone may have a valid counterpoint. You stated: To which I responded: Ever since then you've been tap dancing around my queries, setting smoke screens, tossing red herrings about, and generally obfuscating. Once again you dropped a big pile of poop on the ground and I was naive enough to step in it, assuming you would discuss in good faith. My fault, again, for failing to recognize the real Peterkin behind the curtain.
  4. It was not limited to the "specific utterance". It was limited to the truth of the specific utterance. It is not illegal to make a claim that is true. What is the jury supposed to do? GUESS whether or not the utterance was true without hearing any testimony about the specific allegations made? I didn't follow the trial either but with my very limited knowledge of the law it seems obvious that there would be allowed testimony to enable the jury to make a determination as to the veracity of the claim. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/amber-heard-johnny-depp-lawsuit-shocking-moments-testimony/
  5. Then why wouldn't you expect a judge to admit any evidence regarding who victimized whom and in what ways? It doesn't seem to make any sense.
  6. But it was a public utterance about domestic violence. How do you determine whether or not the utterance was defamation without admitting evidence regarding whether or not Depp victimized Heard?
  7. Personal attack. Perhaps you can address the content of the post rather than the motives of the poster.
  8. zapatos replied to Jane6's topic in Religion
Then think of it as an exercise to improve your social skills.
  9. I can't tell. Are you admitting your were wrong?
  10. Not true. It is absolutisms like this that make it so easy for gun supporters to deflect the actions of gun control advocates.
  11. For Christ's sake koti, read what you posted! You have been abusive to just about everyone in this thread. " a manipulative predator" "a twisted thought process" "trying to bleach out" "Or should I have questioned your integrity..." "What is pitiful is the way youre portraying this, I csn only pitty your lack of empathy" So what has happened in this thread by me is the extent of what Amber Heard did to Johnny Depp? Perhaps you should sue me for $50,000,000. You seem to have lost all ability to make rational, evidence-based arguments.
  12. Thus far the only victims of abuse here are those who are attempting to address your OP. Perhaps YOU could make some recommendations on "How best to start including men who are victims of abuse by women into the public discourse". If all you want to do is sing Johnny's praises, I've included a link to the Johnny Depp Fan Club Facebook page for you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/305998319459715/
  13. Gee, that's nice of you. I said in my first post I didn't follow the trial but thought it was a libel case. Then swansont provided the following: a jury found Heard liable on three counts for the following statements, which Depp claimed were false and defamatory: (1) “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.” (2) “Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.” (3) “I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse.” If you cannot be bothered to support your own claim in your own thread, then don't question my integrity when I question your claim.
  14. Not in this trial it wasn't. Can you please tell me where it was confirmed by court and jury that he is a victim of domestic violence?
  15. I didn't really follow the trial, but I thought Depp sued (and won) for libel, not domestic abuse.
  16. I guess I also think you overestimate the impact of transgender professional competitive athletes.
  17. I'm sorry you saw my comment as condescending, but I stand by my viewpoint that those other issues do seem similar to me. I guess we'll know if I was wrong in about 50 years. I think part of our disagreement is that you are (IMO only) overestimating the impact of trans kids in sports.
  18. In a vacuum this makes complete sense. I should be able to defend myself. No question. Looking at the bigger picture though this is a much more complex issue. Guns in America is not simply a matter of self defense. It is also a matter of aggression, suicide, accident, etc. It is not reasonable to only address one side of the issue in isolation. I should have the right to self defense, but I should also have the right to not die at the grocery store because some nut job is allowed to have firepower more appropriate to a war zone than defending themselves against sexual assault.
  19. I feel like trans kids in sports is similar to inter-racial marriage, gay marriage, women voting, equal pay, women in the military, and others ad nauseam. People don't like change and feel like the current issue is one of a kind which will wreck havoc on some part of society. Like all the other issues we just need to keep pounding away, showing them in the media and in television, making them one of us instead of the "other". We'll have small victories early on, followed by bigger ones, until the tide turns and transgender humans can finally join the rest of the humans as equal. The fact that so many organizations are already addressing trans people in sports is a good sign. As always, the conservatives will drag out the inevitable as long as they can.
  20. No offense but can you provide a citation? I'd like to know who has suggested this.
  21. They don't creep because they are the opposite sex at birth. The creep because they are creeps. Just as easy to have girls creep on girls as boys creep on girls. Another way to look at it is to include cis competitors, but not at the expense of transgender women participating in those sports. Still another way to look at it as finding some reasonable way for all to participate. Not everyone thinks that cis women should have their rights supersede the rights of transgender women. Some of us think the rights of the minorities are just as important as the rights of the majority.
