  1. I speak english, swedish and portuguese fluently. The last two years i've been studying spanish. I studied german for three years, but since it's been two years since (and never used it, apart from a 4-day classtrip in Berlin), and the fact that i almost hated the language, well, let's just say my german is very rusty.
  2. Before i used to get diuretic on the same described situations, but mostly during the awaited event, not the moment before. And i didn't drink more than usual either.
  3. Well once in our school there was a guy who purposedly spilled a bottle of butyric acid. The whole school smelled concentrated vomit and we got one day off because of the smell. Here in Sweden butyric acid is also called trivially "Butter acid" because it's formed when butter goes rancid. Smells like it too.
  4. This night i dreamt that i had cancer and i was walking to the pharmacy with some friends to buy anti-cancer medicine (even remember that i was supposed to buy alkylating agents). Somewhere on the way to the pharmacy after passing by an empty parking lot the dream ended. But it wasn't scary, i wasn't really worried in the dream. It felt like i was on the way to buy tylenol or something, that was how the atmosphere felt like in the dream. 3rd time i dreamt of getting cancer, but far from reocurring since it's been atleast a month's period between the "cancerdreams". I did though have a discussion/talk about cancer with a friend the same evening, but i rarely experience dreams that relate to what i specificly talked about during the day. Yet i can't know if my dream had anything to do with the conversation or not.
  5. A vulture, you can both fly and you don't need to hunt for food (mostly). Just wait for a big fat animal to die and the food is served, especially after the big predators rip it open for you. Second i think would be an orca, because it has always been my favorite animal, and they are on the very top of the food chain, able to eat everything that can swim (from fish to whales). Plus they have a long lifespan, intelligent, social, strong and fast swimmers.
  6. Im born in Portugal (go there every year), and i live in Sweden. I have been in all scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway and Finland). I've been to germany, both passed by in the way to Portugal by car and on a trip with my class to Berlin. Also been in France, Belgium and Spain, but only bypassing on a cartrip down to Portugal(only went down there once by car, otherwise i fly), even though we stopped and saw alot of Paris. Never been outside of Europe though, but im going to New York next year:D.
  7. I dreamt this night that a guy in my class was a psychopath. They way i find out was when he in my dream verbally insulted a girl who started to cry because of it, while he smiled coldly and emotianally unaffected in response. Really creepy. But not a direct nightmare, wasn't that intesnive dream and it didn't feel life-threatening. I do not suspect this guy to be a sociopath for real, but i do find him annoying some times. I have lots of dreams to share because i write them down each morning in a notebook.
  8. This picture is from christmas eve in Thailand, where i photographed this snake. Anybody have a clue what species it is? Is it a colubrid?
  9. Geraniol, one of the substances that gives roses their characteristic smell.
  10. Yepp, im gonna buy it. But im gonna have to wait until mars (because i live in Europe). Unless it gets delayed a fourth time.
  11. I usually ignore strangers on the sidewalk. Here in Sweden its what most people do, everybody minds their own business out in the public. But i wouldn't want it to be otherwise. I get easily nervous around strangers, and having asperger's doesn't make gestures and eye contact to strangers very easy:P, part of why i hate interacting with absolute strangers downtown, makes me nervous and anxious. So i like it this way. Don't take me wrong, im not at all antisocial and cynic, "just" only with total strangers. People are different.
  12. isn't adrenaline besides being a hormone, a neurotransmittor too(at least noradrenaline is, sympathomimetic)?
  13. I chose noradrenaline (norepinephrine), the chief neurotransmittor of the sympathetic nervous system.
  14. Yeah that's why only small animals are vampires. Blood is rich in lipids and proteins and very easy to acquire with the right equipment which the vampire animals have, but only applies to animals of their size. So they have plenty of blood to suck on from a animal much bigger then yourself without big effort, and even with that much blood available, the big animal never suffers blood loss (except maybe for fishes who fall prey for lampreys). Big mammals like us have meat instead, because for us living on blood will be just to inefficient given our design.

    Dreams

What have you all dreamt the past night(if you still remeber them that is) ? I'll start. Mine was quite terrible. I dreamed that i had pancreatic cancer. I was feeling sick and all but i wasnt feeling dying, although in my dream i thought a little about if im going to. I was with some friends during the dream but i don't remember much more than that.
  16. I voted no because what i consider vampires are organisms who suck blood for nutrition and food (hematophags) such as vampire bats, mosquitoes, horseflies, worms and lampreys. Or the mythological creatures vampires, but they do not exist. Since humans drink blood of clearly other reasons than a efficient way to get food, they are not vampires in my eyes.
  17. Ii had a dsicussion with some friends about this and been thinking alot about it. My question is, why do we sometimes laugh easily/alot when we are tired/sleepy from a strict scientific view? This slight euforic feeling that makes alot you talk about laughable which almost resembles a "high".
  18. Mine is a picture of a Datura stramonium (sorry forgot the english common name for it) which is my favorite plant and also reflects my interest in botany and my admiration and interest in how plants and other organisms chemically produce secondary metabolites (toxins). This plant is lethally poisonous and produces among other things atropine and extremely beautiful too but im afraid it doesn't smell as good as it looks.
  19. In the trivial pursuit-game in family guy when the question comes i think they ask which METAL has the highest melting point, so tungsten was the right answer.
  20. Ahaa. Coffe/tea plants contain caffeine as a pesticide so that's why i thought taht residue killed bugs. But does caffeine react with HCl to form water-soluble Caffeine.HCl available for extraction by evaporation after filtrering away residue? Question is how many side products follow with that also crystallize when the water evaporates in the final step.
  21. Okey this is my thought. I have an espresso machine. On the side there is a thing you open once in a while to empty which contain solid compact powder of coffe residue. People have also used this to put in the earth together with plants to kill bugs, so appaerently it has caffeine. Compared to the caffeine transferred to the cup, does anybody know roughly how much caffeine it conatins? Im thinking of either mix it with HCl to make caffeine.hcl salt or just subliming it in order to extract caffeine, will these methods work with the amount of caffeine present in the coffe residue?
  22. Here in Sweden you pay to a limit each year, if you pay more then 200 dollars (more a less) in the pharmacy in the same year, any medication is for free for the whole year after you paid that sum. If you are younger then 18 i think you have a lower limit.
  23. My favorites are The Simpsons (as my username indicates), House (Dr. House has to be the coolest tv-character ever), Seinfeld, CSI and South Park.
