  1. Just came across this in AP: https://apnews.com/article/byheart-baby-formula-recall-botulism-679c822667df767a278b166c7142e68f The formula uses 'organic' sources. I wonder if that might be a clue?
  2. To function, but not to survive. Add moisture and they'll start.
  3. That's paywalled, you can download or read it from here: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/6490925_Infant_botulism
  4. It's a racist meme imo. Anyway:
  5. Excellent, Seth. Good to hear the ideas have put some arrows in your quiver. 👍
  6. Is it hazardous on bare hands?
  7. I came across this, being from the point of view of physics, I thought some here might find it interesting. Also, I like Sean Carroll's style... when I can understand the level he's on. Abstract: We consider emergence from the perspective of dynamics: states of a system evolving with time. We focus on the role of a decomposition of wholes into parts, and attempt to characterize relationships between levels without reference to whether higher-level properties are "novel" or "unexpected." We offer a classification of different varieties of emergence, with and without new ontological elements at higher levels. https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.15468
  8. Hallucination: "Use a plastic or stainless steel scraper to avoid scratching the surface with metal tools."

A friend and I noticed shrinkflation is occurring in household emulsion paint as well. Dulux used to be like thick, creamy yoghurt and now it runs free flowing from the tin. They are taking the piss when it's over 25 quid for 5L of a colour.
  10. A 4-cutter bit should help as well. and 2-4J of punching power from the drill.
  11. Are you using an SDS drill? Do the drill bits have 4 cutters?
  12. Could they be these? https://www.cnccookbook.com/split-point-drill-bit/
  13. I'm not that narcissistic.
  14. It is not a question of being content, but of accepting the current state of knowledge by people that do this for a living. I can come with brain farts all day... but that's all they are.
  15. 'Logic' being that which makes sense to you, but it is not scientific.
  16. That is what you are doing.
  17. I just leave it at the BB. Thus far, it is unknowable.
  18. If time has no meaning or existence before the big bang, how can we talk about an infinite past? Talking bout an infinite past prior to the big bang assumes it proceeded, as we know it, in a linear fashion.
  19. What would infinite time mean if did not proceed, as we know it, before the BB?
  20. Languages evolve. Dictionaries reflect that. Applying eternal rules to them is a fool's errand.
  21. Would James Lovelock qualify? He's been self-funding since 1964 with money he got from his electron capture detector. Obviously, he's written quite a few well selling books over the years.
  22. If a plant species various phenotypes don't survive long enough to reproduce in a given environment, it becomes extinct in that area. The selection is by elimination.
