  1. If you were standing in the path between two cars going 50 mph you are being hit at 50mph by each of them; not 100mph. The cars will experience a collision of 100mph but not you. Your speed, relative to each car, and vice versa, is 50 mph. It's the same thing in your scenario but you have to make relativistic corrections,
  2. He gets hit by each object at 90% of the speed of light. Although it happens simultaneously, each collision with him is a separate event. Don' t add them up.
  3. No longer doomed to always be an Atom

  4. Interesting, can you point me to any literature about it?
  5. 'Closing speed' is not the velocity of any single object in the scenario, therefore nothing is violated, but is actually an artifact* of combining the measurements of two objects. * Artifact - something observed in a scientific investigation or experiment that is not naturally present but occurs as a result of the preparative or investigative procedure.
  6. The AI mind will be uncluttered by everyday problems and human frailties;simultaneously handle and play with more algorithms, as well as exponentially faster.
  7. In reality, the technology will happen incrementally, problems will be experienced, predicted and solved as they happen. Autonomous machinery isn't going to happen all at once. Here's Asmov's three laws: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.[1]
  8. The mnemonic I use to remember which is which: Mites grow up and tights come down.
  9. You don't envisage them having intellectual autonomy and self-identity being a problem for us?
  10. They have been my favourite since I was 14. I saw them play that in 1988 and The Wall in ''81. That vid is a great example but the sheer magnitude and warmth of the sound can't be captured in film. I am reminded of something DJ John Peel said many years ago; " His playing went so deep inside me I'm sure I'm having his baby"! Time is the story of many people's lives. That solo just knocks me out; I have to get my air guitar out. Here's a bit of chocolate and wine for the ears. Check out Yanick Etienne's voice:
  11. I love the non-lexical chorus line in the Enigma track; quite visceral. That IMAX track is very absorbing and chilling. Thanks. +1:) Yes, born '62. I had a friend who was a big fan of them who exposed me to them, and Kraftwerk, in the mid-seventies, The German electro groups were the original trance bands imo; I loved the sonic landscapes they painted in my mind.
  12. Your posts were noted, dismantled and put in the correct perspective. Going around in circles is boring and your attitude not conducive to reasonable discussion of such a subject. It is clear that you don't know what you don't know; arrogance of ignorance. CharonY has given you the most current, informed answer to your premise. Read it again.
  13. Indeed, who or what is the final arbiter? The reality is, our culture and familial influences mould what we think is moral or immoral. As long as ones own moral behaviour is consistent with ones moral code, in ones native setting, then ones morals are 'correct'. Moral behaviour is behaviour that is deemed acceptable amongst ones native superiors and peers.
  14. I think we have to set our own purpose but many would like to be guided and think they are fulfilling the wishes of some higher authority. Yes,I think so when looking at the big picture but in reality some very large proportion of our day is just spent satisfying functional needs that get us through the day. It's purely arbitrary. You don't know what you'll do until you face such a situation. I think, if you look in poverty-stricken or extreme resource deprived areas you will find your answer.
  15. That might be an example of asynchronous data streams; perhaps the bit's missing that would give it sense were non-verbal; imagine acollage of different media combining to give a coherent message. It's only in the last year or so I've noticed this coherent monologue within me. It's almost like my inner self has finally figured a way to talk to me that I can hear. I am severely deaf and in my younger years I couldn't hear what people were saying in my dreams; now it is all loud and clear. Perhaps my disability forced my brain to adapt this way. I feel quite strongly that this is often so. The dreams I actually remember usually seem to have a narrative that suggests I'm trying to reconcile something that troubles me but have not yet acknowledged, or refuse to acknowledge, in my waking life. He's quoting from a dream of his that puzzles him.
  16. Marine animal remains algae, salt and water then. Aussie Sushi Special Hair Styling lotion....100% natural ....feeds your hair too!"
  17. Anything that puts a layer on your scalp and potentially blocks the pores/follicles wouldn't be good in the long run, methinks. I can't see any harm in using it occassionally and don't sleep on it.
  18. I take it Galileo is a hero of yours? We have seen lots of Galileo wannabees.
