  1. Thank you for the response, This is only an abstract concept that I came up with one day without giving it any further thought besides "hey this could be a thing" hence my little knowledge of feasibility. I personally do not think that my idea could be an actual physical product, however seeing that we are just stating invention possibilities I was just analogously shooting off the cuff with my ideas. I have not doubt about the feasibility of your idea or how well it preforms in the field, However again because this thread is intended for just coming up with invention ideas I did not think that feasibility was a prerequisite. Apologies if I was not on topic with the idea I submitted. I have used Plackers myself and have found them more user friendly than conventional floss, one and done is my motto when it comes to teeth care.
  2. ha, I think need to do more work before I can get out of the "mutually exclusive" club. Let me go back and see if I can better refine my question so that I can better convey it to everyone.
  3. I think what I am trying to understand is if my interpretation is correct from a beginners perspective. Like if my step my step process is correct vs. if the overall thing is correct. Analogous to trying to initially understand a physics equation intuitively verses begin able to solve it. Thank you both however for the assistance.
  4. yep! I just changed my major last semester and am taking discrete next. I got the introductions of proofs and a little discrete, however did not go that deep. Spending the summer studying discrete, linear algebra, and vector analysis so that I can be prepared when classes start back up again. yes and no. yes I believe that this is what I am trying to say and convey, no because I want to understand it intuitively. I am a novice when it comes to this stuff, however I am really good at abstraction so I keep up
  5. I am attempting to understanding implication in mathematical logic. I will start off by giving an example of its use and my interpretation of how to correctly under it. That way my process can be critiqued and corrected. Example if "f(a) =f(a')", then " a = a' " Interpretation the given logical statement above is like an "instruction manual" in which if I have f(some a) = f(some b) then it will always result in some a equaling some a'. And if I observe a counter example to this then that would mean that the overall example statement is wrong and therefore it is not defined as being that said thing, in this case being the definition of a one to one function. That being said if I have the function f = {(1, a), (2, a), (3, b)} and I do some searching I find that f(1) = f(2). Because of this I can use the above example logical statement. if f(1) = f(2), then 1 = 2. However this is not the case and therefore the initial statement is thereby false and thus it is not a one to one function. Is this interpretation correct? Also is this "instructional following" a good method of interpretation mathematical logic? Thank you for your future answers.
  6. yeah sure! It would be an electronic device that you would press a button like an electronic tooth brush, when you press the button power is sent to a "motor", again this is still an abstract idea, in which the floss would repeat in a given loop. The person would then place said repeating floss between there teeth and it would automatically floss in between your teeth for you collecting the gunk in a "trap" so to speak. After use you would just empty out the trap. Rinse and repeat.
  7. I got one, A way to get rid of the floss entirely and switching over to a single holder type system similar to a tooth brush. It would be motorized in some way shape or form so that you would not need to run and back and forth like brushing your teeth. However I am trying to make something else first so I am going to get back to that idea but its here if anyone can think of how to come up with it. here is a rough abstract depiction I love coming up with these sorts of things!
  8. Is it possible to determine a transformation matrix from just a x and y matrix and the resulted transformed matrix? Say for example you have a few points on an x and y graph. You transform these points into a matrix. Lets also say that you have another graph with x and y points and you change that into a matrix. Lets finally say that a transformation matrix exist between the first and second matrix, however you have no idea what it is. Is there a possible means of solving for that said transformation matrix. Also apologies for the slight vagueness, have some linear algebra knowledge however I need to study up on it some more in order to give more concrete terms.
  9. I have determined that when I grow up, I'm going to be what I call a "Foundational Computational Mathematics, Science, and Design Specialist."

What is that you may ask?

Well sit back and I'll tell ya!

A "Foundational Computational Mathematics, Science, and Design specialist" (FCMSDS for short) is someone who does math and science using a computer while also understanding the basis of how a computer works! Mastering the algorithms while at the same time knowing how the algorithms are implemented to make the algorithms run more efficiently!

A "FCMSDS" would focus on a few key things, optimization, object behavior, object behavior modeling and simulation, and just general science stuff.

So it is basically a weird mesh between computer engineering, foundational/computational/applied/discrete/analysis mathematics and finally just science and engineering in general with an emphasis in computer engineering, it acting as the backbone of the career field.

Because computer science Is the basis it basically states that "optimization is key" meaning that because different designs and simulations and models require computational algorithms to work, those algorithms must be as optimized as possible!

Today is my first day in being one and I am excited to see where the "non existent" career path takes me!

    Time Travel

This may have been a question which belongs in philosophy or speculation due to its "wondering of a potential thing" verses the discussion of a "physical behavior based upon existing laws." I am however unsure. Are you attempting to discuss the possible physics of a time machine and its relativistic affects or are you just wanting to discuss one of the types of imaginative time travel concepts and the logistics of it?

    HEAR MY PLEA

A dream is nothing more, than a sea filled with life, full with the broken hearts of those before, experiencing pain and strife, wishing upon a star of light in which send theirhearts a soar, upon their gaze and flying wings, they jump in the sky searching for something more, in their flight they see the lands in which they never knew, and on catching the light in which they had dreamed, they discover something new, That the world in which they once inhabit was nothing but a dream, and that the knowledge in which they had captured is not quite exactly what it seemed, they had not flown into the sky, but through a looking glass. And upon reaching the end they realize something finally at last, They had not been flying but simply seeing through their own eyes, peering through a telescope, viewing their own demise. And upon viewing of the world they see others fall, those who are all still looking to the sky, hoping to hear the sirens call. So it is the dream in which I hope, to escape this land of mine, to understand the stars above, before running out of time, to finally touch the edge of the universe, before it is to late, to inspire those who dream of the impossible as well, before the world is consumed with hate, p.s. not sure how you wanted me to respond so I wrote my own poem! p.p.s. not good at poem structure soooo it might be a little bad. I do not know If this is guided towards me or not, but I don't know, build a boat I guess. Power only exists for those who believe in power, I just wanna make cool things and fly around because its fun!

    HEAR MY PLEA

OH KNOWLEDGE WIZARDS! HEAR MY PLEA. I WISH TO BECOME "TO" POSSES THE KNOWLEDGE OF OLD! FOR IT IS YOU WHO KEEP OUR LIGHT ON WITH YOU KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARCHANE ARTS! FOR IT IS YOU WHO KEEP OUR SPECIES FROM GOING BACK INTO THE DARK AGES! YOUR POWER CAN LIFT MOUNTAINS AND DESTROY CIVILIZATIONS! (p.s. I have asked for knowledge before, however that is when in a manic episode so I do not think that one counts) PLEASE TEACH ME YOU WAYS! WHERE CAN BUT A HUMBLE PEASENT BEGIN HIS STUDIES INTO THE MAGICAL ARTS OF THE SCIENCES!!!! I WISH TO KNOW ALL SO THAT I MAY ONE DAY TOUCH THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE!!! *flashing lights in the background as the sky grows dark and colder* *joke/not-joke thread*
  13. Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. However I was unsure if me posting in different areas would affect the science forums server itself. Did not wish to be eat up resources just to get a few questions answered. Would it be possible to discontinue this thread? Apologies for the inconvenience.
  14. I have a tendency to ask a lot of questions so I started this thread to obtain answers from a bunch of different topics in a centralized and easy to refer to space. This is to both prevent me making a bunch of different threads and condensing it all into a single area to have my questions answered. First question, is there like a single mathematics book that does not have all of the analogous "fluff" between the "definitions, processes, examples, connections, and excersises?" Going from a foundational level to an advanced level. Walking the student through all what is currently known about the given field? One in which a, lets say, 10 year old child can go from being a student to a master in his time reading it? Thank you for your answers in advance.
  15. I do not fully comprehend what a data structure "is." Are they the bounds in which computers act on in order to prevent computational confusion? Why do they exist? Why not just make everything abstract strings or use just a single data type? Does it have any relationships with sets in mathematics? Is there a relationship with and mathematics? What is the "use" and "function" of data structures? Thank you in advance for answering my questions. ok, so I believe that data structures act as a sort of "specialized cell" for information. In which they are processed differently in different possible sections of memory. However that does not answer what there relationship is with mathematics. May it has something to do with the concept of "mapping" from different "spaces" however I still need to gain a handle on that concept.
  16. two questions, one why are these large children playing on a stage. where are there parents. second, not really a question, I did not know there was such a thing a double violin. I like that
  17. words of wisdom that hits to close to home my dude
  18. Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement along with the analytical understanding of what knowledge "is" in terms of my current situation. It has really helped out a lot in helping me analogously "face down my demons." I think I will focus more towards the "bettering myself and not worry about the intelligence of others" understanding. It seems petty now to worry about and become emotionally charged towards a person who is more naturally talented than I am. They have their own journey and I have mine. Now my next question is what are your personal experiences with grappling with this question of doubt and insecurity if you have ever gone through it yourself?
  19. For as long as I remember I have had a craving for knowledge and a want to create more. However it seems like each time I do it becomes over shadows but negating thoughts such as "there are people who are smarter than you so why even try" or " there is no point in doing this, let it go." I believe that it is routed in jealousy, however I am unsure. Working out and drinking water helps, however it just seems like a constant search for something that I am currently unaware of. Any advice would be greately appreciated. I want to get out of the box of scientific insecurity and open my mind to the impossibly connected knowledge we as humanity has developed so far. Thank you.
  20. Here is a quote I came up with the other day.

" The interface from the universe to the brain is a continuous one, the interface from the brain to the universe is a discrete one."

Tell me what you all think about this quote.

    Thank you

that one....seems like it can break the mind.

I get the mental image of fluid like fractals when thinking about that.

      owwwwwwww my braaaaain :D

  21. New question: I am working on a paper for my intro to advanced mathematics course and was wondering if coming up with relationships between sets is similar to coming with programs for a computer. The feelings when doing both feel the same, however I am unsure in respect to mathematics as a whole whether or not this is the "intention." Intention in referance to if I should be think about relationship deriving like I am writing a program.
  22. There was a time when I was sleeping and all of a sudden I dreamt of being inside of a large field and a giant light in the sky came to me and tried to speak with me without words. Only communicating using a "feeling." I would guess what it was and it would only "appear" to be more and more angry. It was only when I called it "God" that a large trumpet began to play. It was like I was not being "told" what to do, but instead guided. After waking up I thought back on it and it made me realize two things; that I was indoctrinated too much when I was a child to the delusion of a "God" and that I should probably try and watch what I eat before I go to sleep. Your mind is a VERY powerful thing, which tries to recognize patterns and attempts to make itself more "important" than everything else in the universe. It is not, we have more efficient tools which remove the personal bias in which the brain attempts to create. One of these is called science. True "enlightenment" is not knowing that you are absolutely "right." It is knowing that you are filled with biases and trying to mitigate those biases in order to develop the correct truths to better both yourself and those within your environment.
  23. I am studying logic at the moment so correct me if I am wrong. This seems like an "affirming the consequent" fallacy. Having the given logical structure Premise -> Only 10% of the Nobel Prize winners are atheist Premise -> A Nobel Prize Winner has been announced Premise -> There is a 90% chance that a Nobel Prize winner is not an atheist ( not premise 1 ( P(not A) = 1 - P(A) ) ) Premise -> Those who are Nobel Prize winners are smart Conclusion -> There is a high chance that the next Nobel Prize Winner will not be atheist (maybe conclusion 2) -> If there is a high change that a Nobel Prize Winner is not atheist and a Nobel Prize winner is smart, then someone who is not an atheist is smart. ( this does not feel right and it feels like I am missing a large amount of "enthymemes" as the book calls them. ) Maybe there is quite a few logical structures can be extracted from this original statement, however I am unsure. p.s. I am not sure If you can have more than one conclusion with multiple premises Of course I could be wrong, where the thread initiator could simply be stating something that they have learned, If this is the case then apologies.
  24. ah, ok. my apologies for not fully reviewing the information before responding.
