what do you guys think about the theory that the cosmos(i like that word:) ) as we know it, only makes 5% the rest is either superhuge black objects(machos) or supersmall particles(wimps) do you think we'll ever find these wimps or machos? is that research fruitless?

I know what that is and what they are looking for, but I was hoping that they'd have such a tool as the seti@home where the recieved data packets can be checked and then submited to OSETI's Hq. does anyone know if they are doing it now(i couldn't dig that out myself) or are they plan to ever doing it?

I was in physics today and saw on a video a breif desription of stars forming heat throught the fussion of elements in their core. This brought about three questions. 1. Does anyone know whether the fussion in the core is balanced or sparadic? I mean, are there spots of hydrogen, some of helium, some of the next element (sorry, I don't know it off the top of my head) or does it fuse all the hydrogen, then all the helium and so on? 2. Does anyone know what state of this process the sun is in? 3. How would one be able to tell that this happens in the stars?

I was recently talking with a friend about people who believe that the first landing on the moon was a hoax. Even though I think that theory is all crap, a good point was brought up. Aparently in the tape of Neil Armstrong holding the flag on the moon, the flag was flapping as if there was wind. As far as my knowledge goes........theres no wind on the moon. So how could this have happend? Was the flag actually flapping in the tape? (I'm too young to have seen it) Could it be a hoax?

Since it seems that matter actually forms in space intermittently, sub-atomic parts popping in and out of existence, intuitivly it looks like patterns of light in a wave tray. Where waves come together in interference patterns, shadows of density of photons are seen in the tray. Imagining neutrinos and photons of all wavelengths constantly travelling through our existance it makes sense that occaisional interference energies at a point could create a particle as the sum of many individually insignifigant energies at that point. Do you think we will someday get a recipe to create an interference pattern of micro waves and other high energy waves at an area of neutrino c…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3492919.stm According to astronomers, a large shrinking star crystallized, and turned to diamond. It is 1 * 10^34 carats, and about 50 light years away. What would happen if they sent a robotic space probe over (with extremely high speeds, over c) and took a chunk out? "Space Diamonds!" You could sell it for millions(no, billions) of dollars!

I just read in Astronomy magazine, which is a great magazine by the way, that by the year 2012, NASA wants to have a space station on the moon that will be for the purpose of sending manned missions to Mars by the year 2020. I was really amazed to read this. In ten years, we could be taking the first steps to manned missions outside of our solar system. Sure that would be looking way into the future, but you have to start somewhere. Imagine that in 100 years that the space station on the moon is ancient history. So is the space station on Mars. Then the space station on Pluto will be ancient history. Pluto is the last planet in our solar system. The next step is to b…

Check this out: http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/spotlight/opportunity/b19_20040304.html It seems COMPLETELY illogical that Mars has life as we know it - SPECIALLY life in the shape of a BUNNY. Still, I was wondering what you guys have to say about that.. could it be a hoax? (unlikely, but possible) or.. well what is that exactly?? ~moo

If I am understanding everything correctly (which I may not be), then the big bang was created by a "large star" reaching the end of its life and basically imploding on itself. Am I correct so far? If this is the case, then why aren't new "worlds" or planets forming be the second??? Could someone explain this?? Thanks

The scientists also found what they called "blueberries," small, globular-shaped inclusions in the rock that can be formed by water. The inclusions are rather like blueberries in a muffin, hence the name. Some of the spherical objects have rolled into a small basin, called the "blueberry bowl" by scientists, and will be analyzed further by Opportunity to confirm their origin. Source: Who else wants to goto mars now? Who knows...maybe they'll find oreo cookies and milk next. Rock on President Bush....send those astronauts to that mars playground! :flame:

Are there any galaxies larger than a fraction of a degree that we can see? Would they look anything like the ones in StarWars that are totally dense and visible?

  17. If the universe started with the/a big bang then everything was together at the beginning of the universe. So how can you say I'm looking back 13 billion years when the univerese was only 750 million years old. So how did that galaxi get 13000million lightyears away from here in only 750million years ???? news facts: http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/02/16/farthest.galaxy.ap/index.html

What if Earth had another moon. What would be the upper limit of it's size, that it's orbit yet would be stable. In which distance another big moon best would maintain it's orbit. Another interesting question: let's forget another moon, but let's move our present moon nearer the Earth. How near it would come that it's orbit would be stable and it would not yet disturb Earth's revolving around the Sun. If the size of our Moon would be smaller, it's minimum distance could of course be smaller. How near would for example 100 km diameter Moon revolve Earth. It's also interesting to think what kind of scientifical or another meaning this small near moon would hav…

There was evidence shown recently that stars could be drawn into a black hole, which made plenty of sense, but hadn't been seen. The star was apparently pulled apart by the extreme differences in gravity that the near and far regions of it experienced as it approached the black hole. Most of the star had enough momentum to escape, with only a few percent falling to the black hole. More than anything though, there are some really nice images. http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2004/rxj1242/

I know I've asked before but I didn't settle for the answer, I'm sorry... This is REALLY bothering me lately - to the extent of actually dreaming about someone squashing the entire universe with his dirty shoe. HELP me. Please. I'm a geek, yes, but all hell -- this is too much even for me!! ) In any case. PLEASE, I have to understand this. Three basic assumptions, I hope you all agree: [*] Our universe "exists" in more than 3 dimentions. [*] The universe began with an explossion (The big bang). [*] The stars in the solar systems are probably material of the sun - the result of an ancient explosion of the sun. [/list=1] WHY, then, is the solar sys…

Does anyone know any new ideas on the dimensions. Has anybody submitted any new recent ideas on how the problem of 10 or 26 dimensions might be breached. (Im not bothered about whether it should). Is there some new stuff on this. I would love to see models on this.
