Forum! Please, What are the results of test on Ammonium iron II tertaoxosulphate VI hexahydrate salt using BaCl, NaOH, HNO3, HCl, H2SO4. Also what will be the filtrate and residue of the salt after filtration (since both Iron Suphate and Ammonium Sulphate are soluble in water)

If the bond angle of water molecules were precisely 109,5°, as predicted by VSEPR theory, dipole momentum would decrease from 1.85 [D] to about 1.38 [D], right? Therefore, how would this graph change? Would ice still be less dense than water?

Hi, im researching an experiment whit audio in relation to electromagnets. I bought ferro fluid online then i hooked up a couple of 200 N magnets. The spikes created are small, super small. the fluid i use is F4MFF20 - EFH1 is that a week fluid or do I need to crank up the size of the magnets? Right now im very much confused how to get my head around this. Best regards Gerbsi

I am trying to understand the applicability of Henry's Law, but am having some difficulty. The law makes sense but I find limited utility in it because the increase in solubility occurs at a constant temp and in a closed container. So in that case, is the only way to increase the VP of a gas by physically disturbing it-- ie like shaking a soda can? I am just trying to understand when it would apply since it seems that it really cannot work in our atmosphere due to it being an open system and with frequent temp fluctuations. Thanks.

I have a quest about concentration cells. I understand that they are constructed almost like galvanic cells, except they are spontaneously run where the 2 solutions (at anode and cathode respectively) are at different concentrations. Lets say that our solutions were 1 M and 0.1 M respectively, but the anode and cathode were not identified. From that information can we instantly deduce that the reaction would move from the lower to higher concentration to make the Nernst eq yield a +E b/c such a rxn is spontaneous? Or does the anode and cathode have to be identified in order to deduce how the cell will run?

According to the reactivity series, a metal higher, in the series, will displace a metal, lower in the series from the compound of the lower metal. Thus, Fe will displaces copper from copper sulphate solution. Then how is it possible that copper displaces iron (though partially) from ferric chloride?

If a student were performing a weak acid with strong base titration, and he used a stronger base than titrant as the indicator, what effect would this have on the final ph of solution detected? I would think that since the indicator is a better base it would abstract protons before the base would and thus you would detect a higher ph than expected.

If you mixed 500 ml of 2 M NaOH with 6 M H2SO4 and they asked you to find the volume to neutralize only the first proton of the acid. When you do NV=NV, you are finding the volume at equivalence but it's the volume to neutralize both protons. So in this case would you half the volume that you get from the NV formula?

umm i was wonder about this question . in my chemistry book it has shown br losing all its electrons and combining ethene. i was wondering whether this bond is co ordinate for not because it seems that ethene is donating electrons to the electron deficient bromine. any help is much appreciated

Is it possible to have pure acid? I have a hard trouble understanding this concept. Acids are concentration of H+ and OH- or is the acids the actual acids such as HCl or HI and if one is a strong acid such as HCl can I have pure HCl without water.

wasnt sure if this should be in Biochem, or inorganic, so here it goes: In fermentation, I heard that when yeast "digests" the sugar to create ethanol and CO2, a small amt of methanol also is produced, and stays in the solution. Its kind of an equilibrium. I heard the amt of Methanol is 0.5%. Then I said "wow- 0.5%" ?? Then the guy said "maybe it was 0.05%" (a doctor). Man, 0.5% is high. I make my own beer, and dont want to go blind, people! Is there an equilibrium of methanol and ethanol in this reaction? Thanks

Would liquid CO2 be considered a polar fluid? The reason i ask is that the surface of Venus is not just covered by hot CO2 the CO2 is a super critical fluid which makes the surface covered by oceans of liquid CO2.. just curious at the moment but mountain tops stick out of the fluid resulting less erosion on mountain tops. Seems like an oddly similar condition to earths water oceans...

This site (http://hydrogentwo.c...odic-table.html) claims that hydrogen should actually be put in group 17 instead of group 1, basically claiming that hydrogen is a halogen. Whilst hydrogen do not exactly fit in group 1 as an "alkali metal" (it's a gas instead of a metal, except in special conditions, it forms negatively-charged ions, and it is far less electropositive than lithium), it absolutely cannot be a halogen. Firstly, electronegativity decreases as you go down the periodic table, and the element becomes more and more metallic. Hey all, Great forum! Loved all the discussions here Now, I went through a research paper from RSC where they have Reduced CO2 and Water to CO and H2 gas via Solar energy. Is this really feasible in the long run? Because, the Products or Syn Gas is used to make Gasoline via the Fisher Tropsch process. So that would mean unlimited fuel right without global warming, right? Also, to add, it used a Ruthenium Complex. That could be a downer. Isn't Ruthenium way expensive?

People, Can one create/prepare UNIFORMLY rusty bolts siezed into a steel block for an experiment where all the bolts rusted in will be exactly of the same degree of rust? In other words, say one wanted to test different rust penetrating fluids, and apply different fluids on the bolts as "control " bolts, assuming that in the experiment you would have exactly the same conditions for an unbiased test. I guess there is so many factors that could alter one bolt from another rusty bolt. I mean, the threads themselves, so much can change inside threads affecting "rust" development....... Thanks!

I realized because im gonna be making HCl and nitric acid, why not make aqua regia too. Ive been researching this stuff and found that aqua regia is an extremely corrosive, fuming liquid. So ive found that you simply mix concentrated nitric and hydrochloric acid together in a 1 to 3 ratio. I can imagine if this came in contact with skin or eyes (beyond bad!)!!!!!!!!! Wat you get is a fuming brown liquid that can disolve gold. Can this be stored in a normal glass vessel with a stopper. And if/when i mix the acids, will there be an evolution of heat or a violent reaction that i should be aware of. I realy want to try this but i need to no more about aqua regia. Trust m…
