  3. Imagine two particles going the speed of light. Would this mean they have equal energy? Will they have to have a mass of 0? Also does mass come from the fact that a particle has slowed down slower than the speed of light? Does its energy level matter? If one particle is traveling speed of light, and particle 2 is traveling 1\2 speed of light, does particle 2 have 1\2 the energy? In the end my question is does the energy and speed determine mass. Is this in proportion? Is speed proportional to energy? Does being heavy and low energy have to mean you go slow through space?     Hi i post this here becasue i hope you can help me with a little question i have not yet been able to figure out myself. i know what the square cube law say: When an object undergoes a proportional increase in size, its new volume is proportional to the cube of the multiplier and its new surface area is proportional to the square of the multiplier. However all examples that i have found has been examples of very large examples like for example humans at 60 feet in height. That is not really helping me since i try to find out what the square cube law would say about something far smaller then that. But enough of a backstory I am writing a scfi/fantasy …

    this notion has been bugging me since forever and i like to think of it as (sort of) a paradox... take a high intensity laser pointer, hook it up with a light sensitive switch, and program it so that when the light sensitive switch is hit with light, the circuit is open and the laser will turn off. now go in a dark room, and point the laser pointer (which should now be nice and bright) on the light sensitive switch. it sort of creates a paradoxical event because if the laser is on, the switch is told that there is no need for the laser to be on, but as soon as it would turn off the light sensitive switch would close the circuit, turning the laser back on. thus cre…

    I know there is a way but I can't seem to remember the equation for temperature change in a flow. Like if I have water that is 30 C with a rate of 30 liters per minute and another flow of water at 40C with a rate of 10 liters per minute, how could I calculate the final temperature of the mixture? I know there is an equation for this but I can't seem to remember. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

    I was wondering if anyone could tell me how come a magnet that is circular, (Ie. A speaker magnet) is attractive at every point? If you take a circular speaker magnet, and a piece of metal, the metal will be attracted to the outside of the magnet at every point, as well as inside the hole of the magnet as well.   12. I hear that a ticket to the space station will cost a regular civilian about 10 million bucks for a short stay orbiting around the earth. So, if some mega-tycoon had the crazy bucks at their disposal. What would it take in the way of money (which I'm sure will be in the many billions) and equipment to actually take a person to the moon and live their sustainably? I know this is one of the goals for nasa, but they are forced to be on a strict budget. So if the money was available, how much do you all would think would cost to go to and live on the moon as well as have trips back and forth to the earth as well?

    Hello, all! I have recently developed an interest in physics, and I was wondering where I should begin. Unfortunately, my familiarity with the field is non-existent. What little experience I have had has focused more on concepts than the mathematics behind it. Is there anything that combines both approaches without being frighteningly technical? Something appropriate for self-teaching would be ideal, but if I reach an impediment too great to be overcome alone, I can find help. So, what do you all recommend?   14. Today, I've noticed that we are starting to use more and more solar panels for a source of "clean" energy, taking this energy directly from the solar rays of the sun. My question is, and while I probably am not as smart as many people in here, if it was possible to recreate a miniature replica of the sun itself on earth [somewhere along the size of a baseball] and use that for energy?   18. Why don't atomic particles like electrons and protons have inertia like the macroscopic objects like space rocks and spacecraft for example? Why are atomic objects like electrons not effected by Newton's laws of motion like the macroscopic objects are? In other words, why are atomic objects like electrons not bound by the laws of Newtonian mechanics (such as inertia for example) like macroscopic objects are? I'll try to frame my question better perhaps: Why are the laws of physics so different between macroscopic objects (like spacecraft for example) and atomic objects like electrons (for example)?

  21. Hey guys! I was reading Deception Point by Dan Brown where he mentioned that his explorers were able to recharge the batteries of their microbot simply by placing it "near the cylinder of an electric generator". I was wondering whether recharging would actually be possible without direct connection to the generator. Would that be an effect of the 'leaking' magnetic field? Still, how can only exposure to a magnetic field raise the potential of charges stored in the batteries? That made me confused and any help would be most appreciated

    So I was talking to some guy today who apparently has a bachelors in physics and he said about 2 months ago it was announced that the higgs equation has been better figured out, that the mass comes out correctly now in the equation.
