I recently had an itch to play some of those old -oldtimey games. but there is a problem, windows 7 doesn't support old games very easily. So naturally i downloaded various sorts of emulation software to play the games. However i am currently trying to play Dungeon Keeper, and emulation just isn't working so far. I can actually enter the game either just using the .exe or by running it in an emulator. But the graphics of the game aren't displaying properly. I tried to run in 256 colors mode, that didn't work. I though that it might be possible that the graphics aren't working because this netbook doesn't have a dedicated graphics card. Is there anyway i c…

McAfee says it disables the problem but it cannot remove it and everytime i run a scan it picks it up again as active. Here is what it says the problem is HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_zesoft Is this a problem I need to take further steps to remove?

Ok, I know this is more complicated than it needs to be, and I'm a huge n00b at networking, but... I've got a domain name and want to forward it to my server, so that I can view my website (obviously), but there are some snags for me... -I'm running windows server 2k8 on virtualbox, and I have wamp set up properly I believe, along with mediawiki, because when I am on the server and go to my ip or localhost in a browser, it works fine and I can edit, etc.! -problem is that I am connecting through a dlink router, and my friend told me I should be putting my vm server in a dmz, but I can't figure it out -I need other computers connected to the router, along with t…

Somehow while moving parts from one computer to the other, I messed up my motherboard and/or CPU and/or RAM. I really don't know what happened. I think I ignorantly bent the motherboard and messed it up that way. Maybe I did fry some stuff. Either way, I need to get a miniATX motherboard. I've been looking at a few, and there seem to be motherboards that support Intel CPUs and AMD CPUs. What is good these days? I read a lot about AMD being better than Intel if not a cheaper alternative to Intel. Also, there seem to be motherboards that can hold up to 16 GB of RAM. Should I be getting one of these? The computer I build will be expected to be around for ano…

All they do is try to make me mad, deleting posts before they even get read so my 200 or so high school friends from facebook miss out on something I say, censoring me in a sense, because I brought up the Big Bang or because I try to elaborate on something I did not communicate well previously. Why, I have no idea. Who, is as much a mystery. I have progressively upgraded my security from my worthless, naked smartphone to my desktop with Linux to more and more complex passwords and it just seems like whomever is able to access whatever they want whenever they want. They just play around with my internet trying to piss me off and drive me crazy. Because of it, I w…

Where can I find a version of DOS that supports CD, DVD, internet brouser, and USB? Can I get the tools to format the drive and set up a functional DOS operating system that doesn't have limits of the era in which it was widely used? Paul, the 60 year old student

I need some help with my computer. Every time I shut off my computer, it tries to update windows, but then those updates aren't there when I turn the computer back on. I went ahead and had my computer check for issues after a few days, and found that there was a long list of update failures. Got any ideas on how to fix it:confused: I would try resetting it to an earlier time, but I might lose some stuff I really don't want to lose.

I'm running Vista 64 bit SP2 with 6 gigs of RAM. (3 x 2 Gig sticks) For some reason I've suddenly started running low on memory. IE runs slow with more than 12 tabs open and Paint Shop Pro can't resize a picture. Every scanner I've got says that I have roughly 4.5 gigs free. First thought was that something was hiding, but if it is, it's good. AVG, Ad Aware, Malwarebytes, CC Cleaner and Super Anti Spyware can't find it. Process monitor says that the memory is free, nothing out of the ordinary is happening. All memory tests show no problems with the sticks themselves. The only program that auto updates is AVG 9. I'm wondering if the Resident Shield …

I have a system that produces PDFs online, and it works great when the end user has a "print to edge" option for their printer. Unfortunately not everyone has, and the PDF needs to print with precise to-scale sizing. Is there any easy way to do this? Is there any safe margin width I can just go with? I can rebuild it to cope with some degree of non-printable area if it's consistent but no one has a clue about what their printers can handle (hundreds of non technical people with printers from last week to the 90s to deal with) and I'm quite discombobulated by much of a pain this is. If I can just set it one way that gives a consistent result for 97% of the users…

Hi, Was wondering how to, once you have inserted it into your iweb page, get an imovie clip to permanently play in a loop ? and the same thing for a song - to play in the background ?. Because i inserted an imovie clip and an itunes song, went into inspector (for both) and clicked loop as well as play automatically. But they only play (in loop) when i double click on, and they cant play together only separately... note - i have a macbook if that helps at all.

I have a Sony DVD Player DVP-NS715P which is restricted to playing DVD from Region 1 only. Is there a way to remove the restrictions and open it up to play from other regions also. I read that in some players it is possible to code in the signals through the remote control while in others the mods are more extensive to the player's pc board Thanks for any help

My computer has a BIOME-1 memory error code. I can't even get it to start anymore and I don't want to spend a lot of money to take it to a shop to have them plug something back in (or something simple like that ). What is this and how can I fix it at home?

I just got myself a USB wifi adapter so as i can log-on to my building's free wifi, rather than paying every month for a wired connection. Can't get the damn thing working! Ubuntu's device manager is telling me that there is "Insufficiant power" to operate the device. it knows it's there but can't operate it. The instructions say it works with Linux Anyone have any ideas as to how I can overcome this problem? I know the USB wifi device works; I'm using it in Windows for the time being in order to view and post on SFN. I need to get back to Linux where its safe and warm and stuff works properly. Please help... I'm stuck using a microsoft operating system! p…

I work from home, and we have a simple home network with a simple quest DSL modem and wireless router. I have an ethernet connection to the router, and generally get good speeds. Last time I ran a speakeasy test, it came back with: Download Speed: 5812 kbps (726.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 370 kbps (46.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Last night, it was looking more like: Download Speed: 799 kbps (99.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 45 kbps (5.6 KB/sec transfer rate) And was incredibly inconsistent. More than the speed issues though, I get "blinking" of the worst kind. I try to FTP and it's usually fine, then my connections will just fail.…

I tried to find a chkdsk in windows 7 but have had no luck - even the search was ineffective. the other thing I am wondering about cleaning the registry. Is there any good freeware that will do that automatically? You see I am 60 years old, learned on a TRS-80, then switched to DOS and when I had to I switched to Windoze... I don't like the way the registry just runs away getting bigger and bigger and I would like to keep it as small as I can without hurting the operating system. My system uses an Intel dual core i5 processor running at 2.67GHz with 6Gb of ram. The OS is Windows 7 64 bit. This old man thanks you for your help. Paul
